Can we do something about the intermittent ads? Progressive is specifically mixed to create a cohesive journey, and ads before or during every transition completely defeats the purpose :(
Strange that no one responded to John Rakowski's chat remark, bitching about DJ Mag "allowing" an actor to feature on RU-vid. Kristian Nairn was already a busy and respected Trance DJ with a residency in Northern Ireland for years before a friend in Belfast happened to mention that the makers of a completely unknown TV series were looking for a giant man to play a giant character who had only one line to say. Not being an actor, Kristian turned up out of curiosity; and the rest - as they say - is television history. But I've learned from personal experience - after 30+ years of DJing - that people without a regular paying gig are always the first to criticise how a professional gets the job done. Nairn knows exactly how to blow up a dance floor, and I don't care how he does it!
All the haters under these comments are losers who's greatest achievement in their DJ'ing "career" is to have 5 of their friends come over to pop some pills and listen to their sets. Then they go to streams like DJ Mag's and type shit like "lol, this ain't nothing bruh, I do it way better".
Yep, i'm impressed, this sounds really good, like, i was going to just check quickly and ended up stuck listening to his set, it's just so good, this is how i like trance to be.
The track sounds different from what is here. And by that I mean that this sounds great and the actual track sounds fairly weak with the over-emphasized cow bell etc.
This set is only gonna get slagged off by those who just want to see nice looking women shaking their chests and then crashing through the transitions with tone matched tunes that make the set sound totally the same for an hour. Kristian, IMHO, bring some of the late-90s Trance DJ vibes to the new era. He is zoned into the tunes, really understanding what "trance" is all about. We don't have much female vocal EDM type stuff. We have deep and intelligent, almost progressive Trance, which as an old Trance head is awesome to hear. This set takes you somewhere in your head. We get nice long transitions to keep us in the groove until we realise that there has actually been a transition. Again IMHO, exactly what a DJ should do. We also don't get ridiculous "flair", endlessly twitching at the controls pretending he is busy and doing something for the camera. He is letting the music do the work and he is eyes closed enjoying it as we should be. DJing is not a show where everyone just watches. DJing is about bringing clubbers, ravers, crasher/shiny/whatever kids together to pay homage to the repetitive beat. AND THEN HE ADDS A THIRD DECK IN @ ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9Piaa7mgzjc.html...GTFO all you haters
Everyone does that, "flair"... It really annoys me. Do they think people are stupid? Touching the eq controls endlessly. This man is giving a master class in pure music mixing, I've never seen a more connected dj than him. He is completely lost in the music. If your watching this and are new to this style of music, this is how it should be done. I know who is, I know what he was in, I am a fan of that show. But being from Northern Ireland myself, and after hearing him compose such an awe inspiring mix of beautiful music. I am now a fan of dj Kristian nairn. I used to dj myself many many years ago, as I watch this, all I can think about is playing the decks right now. Damn why did I sell them. 😭😭😭😭👍👍
This set is absolutely fantastic!! Better than most glamour DJ'S to be completely honest, You can see in his face / emotion that he's thoroughly enjoying it too... Great talent!!
I'm not big on trance, but I like to observe DJs who spin electronic music to learn a few things about transitioning smoothly and using effects subtly to enhance things without them being overbearing. His technique is so smooth it's like he's conducting an electronic orchestra behind those decks.
Very well-put. I was always skeptical about Djs who constantly touch the knobs during sets and in my opinion, most of them, are doing this just in order to look like they are doing too big of a deal, when in reality, they aren't. Some people say they are making minor tweaks but let's not kid ourselves here. It's just a "cool" thing to do. To impress people who aren't really there for the music in the first place.
Not just this one. Like @Joseph Halliday said, I am an observer. Check out Hernan Cattaneo to see what I am talking about. His sets and choice of tracks are flawless, but he isn't going out of his way to appear like he's doing too much of a work.
20yrs plus dj-ing.. That classical backround.. Think this boy can play anything... Like 5th time listen to it this week... 1 week to go see him live in concert,, Absolutely amazing i know what he's mixing in and dropping those beats!!!
I dont know what you exactly meant with knowing what hes mixing. But if i understand you correctly you are feeling what i am feeling. Like the sound all together. Its hard to explain because i dont know much about those term names. Either way its thats it im feeling the same and i regonize this as truly art. Peace!
One of my first clubbing experiences was as a 16 year old somehow managing to get into a venue in Belfast called Event Horizon which was was open until 6am... The first time I managed to get into this place Kristian Nairn was banging weapons out left right & centre until the crack of dawn, powerful night had many more after that, always remember him rinsing Faithless - Music Matters (Axwell Remjx) those were the days 🔥🔥🔥
The crowd gathers, and now my set begins. It shall not end until its time. I shall take no techno, hold no loops, suffer no children. I shall live and die by my set. I am the groove in the darkness. I am the watcher over the floor. I am the fire that burns against the boredom, the light that brings the bliss, the horns that wake the sleepers, the vibe that shakes the realms of trance. I pledge my life and honor to the groove, for this set and all the sets to come.
No antics..... the music speakers for itself.....!!!! Awesome set man....!!!! Dude got more style, grace, and swag then a lot of your favorite.... THX You DJ Mag, for putting me on to Kristian Nairn!
yea why the hate, he has his own way of mixing and people are not thinking about that he is a Big dude, 7ft tall, with alot of weight,i think he does not have Flexibility in moving because it,like many other more Djings.. so he had to find a way around it.
@@johnfalk910812 It's funny. People complain about mainstream stuff being commercial and same-y, but when a guy tries something different they hate on him. No pleasing people..
I think they don't know he was a giant indie dj from northern Ireland BEFORE he became a small celebrity. They think he's popular as a DJ from being an actor now, and they are jealous they'll never get to his level because they don't see his dedication as an aspect of his success
I think the best experience (one of mine) with this set is when you don't watch GOT, don't know the guy and judge only music. That is great work! Selection totally hit my taste.
I love the show. Without which, thousands of people wouldn't have heard his music. Which would be all fine of course, but the exposure has made him much, much more money. As I said, I love the show. I also love him in it, but no one makes me stay for shitty music. Watch GoT or not, if you know/like good trance you can have the same experience.
@@Realm91 I agree with you. I don't watch GOT either. But I did party a lot in Belfast whilst in university in the 90s. This guy is the same age as me and listening to this we seem to enjoy the same music. The late 80s, 90s and early 2000s was an amazing time for trance/progressive. I judge this mix on what I know from those days. I don't know this dude at all as an actor, but I'll now check out more from him as a DJ. He is awesome.
This is how I want my summer evenings to sound. It sounds like an Eric prydz back room set (no way a bad thing) and it's been a very long time since a full set hasn't me skipping or searching for something I know will give me a memory. I'm old enough to be just a year younger than Mr KN. Rem hillhall school and zoids? Well played my man!
I can’t believe I just listened to an amazing trance set by my dude. He may have held the door closed for a long while... but he had the key all along. Had to break out good headphones for this. Worth it.
He looks like he is having a great time and seems to be at home behind the deck. I could listen to this on a regular basis and I would enjoy every time.
I read that Hodor was coming to my city to DJ and I was like WTF??? So I looked up his DJ'ing videos like this one and I instantly bought 2 tickets for my wife and I
Hes so wicked amazing and u can tell he just loooooves what hes doing and it shows in just how FREAKN AWESOME it sounds. A million thumbs up u gentle giant
@@neob2k007 I checked him out but he's a bit of meh for me.. do you know anyone who's like Hodor? Or has he got any more sets available anywhere?? I love his work!
For all the ignorant noobs in the room, he's been a dj for a long while. Played major venues over many years..Better transitions than most of your faves.
Exactly don't talk crap about a Dj just because you don't know him, we that are here do know who he is and are enjoying the performance. DJ Mag only brings on the best and if his style of mixing and music aren't up to your taste, then feel free to find the exit.....I'm sure someboody on youtube is playing justin bieber for you somewhere
Better cheesey track selection than most of my faves for sure. "Transitions" isn't everything but he's better than the Vegas crap I'll give him that much.
John Rakowski is the biggest ignorant noob in the room holy fuck his armchair warrior fighting Another idiot that has no clue who this guy is. He prob dont even know who Digweed is either because doesnt do Coachella or Vegas and John was still wearing diapers in the 90's
I'm seeing alot of hate in the chat on his mixing....What I'm seeing is subtle transitions between tracks...smooth and flowing sound. Beat counting and someone clearly passionate about this music. At the end of the day everyone has their own style so why copy another DJ's "mixing".
@Rob Roy Yeah he is isn't just going from drop to drop. This is almost an "old school" mixing style The way DJ's use to do it, where the mix felt like one long song, rather than a barrage of drops for an hour. - This is how to properly mix music, especially super melodic stuff such as this.
Brace yourselves... beats are coming! I don't actually watch GoT either, I just clicked because of the awesome beard/tats combo and then my mind was blown!!!
been following kristian for a long time as a DJ,he truly has a Huge passion for Djing and for his love of House and Underground. The dude has 20+years of Djing experience, but the most important thing is that he truly loves being a DJ. And i love his Tunes aswell! Also kristian is 7foot tall,so i wouldent want to make him angry lol
