Erica did a fantastic job as Lois, but Smallville had built up Lana as Clark’s true love for more than 7 seasons. Suddenly, without any proper closure, we were expected to move on from that and accept Lois instead. It’s a very tough act to follow.

@@markrobinson9394 what are you talking about? They foreshadowed Clark's romance with Lois for three and a half seasons before Lana left. Clark always had his eye on Lois even when he was with Lana, because he was a serial cheater. He was jealous, possessive, passive aggressively flirtatious, and only went back to Lana when Lois initially rejected his advances. He settled for Lana. Her character deserved so much better than to be treated that way.

@@majinvegeta6364 He was still hung up on Lana in season 8. The only times he showed any interest in Lois beyond being protective was when Lana wasn’t around. Case in point, Chloe’s wedding. He was ready to kiss Lois, but forgot all about her the moment Lana showed up. And he didn’t get back to Lois until Lana had left the show. That can’t be disputed.

@@markrobinson9394 the sequence of events certainly can't be disputed, but his internal motivations for doing so are up for debate. Lois was the first girl to ever reject him. He was scared of it happening again so when Lana showed back up, he saw her as the safe option. He even expressed extreme reluctance to getting back together with her in his extended dialog with Chloe. He settled for Lana because he's a coward and he thought that being with her would be easier. She deserved better than to be his second choice.
