Today we take a look at the KRK Classic 5s and compare them to my beloved Rokit 5s, where are the differences here? This is a vastly under covered topic on the internet, so let's take a look at how these speakers actually differ, because to be honest, its not immediately apparent!

Neither of these speakers have Kevlar in them. They have only Glass Aramid, which is not same as Kevlar. Only the VXT series of KRK have Kevlar.

I’ve used both classic 5 & rokit 5 , same with classic 8 & rokit 8 ... honestly classics are best for mixing it has a more flatter sound , rokits is great for well define loudness .. but classics should be a mix engineer favorite.. and it can be matched with yahama Hs series

Your "Classics" mix is a lot more balanced and detailed than the "Rokits" mix. The Rokit mix has too much low buildup below 70hz, the top end is muffled, and the upper mids seem sucked out a bit. From this test, it def seems the Classic 5's are better for you, in your room.

People often mix opposite to the freq response of their speakers. Did you ever think that maybe your krk Rokits 5 might be clearer, and since you were going for dark lofi in the first place, you ended up rolling off a bit more in the rokits? Whereas if the krk classic 5 are a bit darker, you roll off less. Then comparatively you picked the track that just seemed louder/more lively, which was the less processed one. Idk which is better as I don’t have either of them. I have the v6 s4 w 10in sub. Love em.

100% correct! the classics in my opinion were the better speaker for music production and general use. Owning previous generations of Rokits I have got used to the sound and I could tell in my own room comparing that the classics 7's sounded way more true to sound than the Rokit7 G5s. (Which seem to sound muffled) There was a lack of presence in the higher frequencies and even tweaking the eq I wasn't satisfied with lack of clarity.. it was anything but flat! Fell in love instantly with the classics. those are the real KRK's! :)

Awesome video! A thought after an earlier video of yours: The biggest influence while reviewing speakers in particular is the same thing that causes certain issues using microphones for you. It’s audible in your demonstration AND you have talked about it yourself before. It’s the (in your case - as you put it - less then ideal) room. And we all know, that nobody wants to deal with it. I myself never bothered. And to be frank, I have no way to do too much. Changing the place for my desk? Not an option, there are two places towards a roof slope, with the other walls being either inaccessible due to the layout of the room or because of shelves on the walls. So the only thing possible to do at all would change to choose another corner of the room do get away from the window. And that doesn’t do much for me, because the biggest sleek and hard surface on my desk is my 43 inch display to begin with. But that being said, just being unable to do anything about the room naturally doesn’t change the fact, that the room has a not to be understated influence on the sound, on both ends, recording and monitoring. If it didn’t, you could as well use headphones without a difference, as for example demonstrated in your comparison between headphones mix and speakers mix on your KRK Rockit 5 G4 review, at least, if you make sure, both, headphones and speakers are calibrated to sound flat.

I just bought a pair of used KRK Classic 5's from Guitar Center Boston Friday night. I actually thought, or assumed, I was buying G4 generation. I wanted the app and the lcd and the xlr/balanced combo. But I got them home and set up and just today I realized I didn't have the Rokit G4. Before that realization I had already decided I really liked whatever generation KRK 5" I had bought. I could return and get G4's instead, but I am not going to as these will meet my needs and tastes fairly well. Thanks for this video.

Really interesting video. I absolutely loved the sound of the Classics and may have to look to pick a pair up myself at some point! I've long used Adam monitors, but have always had a bit of a soft spot for KRK's.

Thanks for this video. I needed a new set of monitors - been using a set of Event 20/20 BAS since the '90s and wanted something inexpensive, with a flat, accurate, clear sound for a second workspace. Was leaning heavily toward the Classics, but pulled the trigger after seeing/hearing this. The Classics Mix is so much clearer and has more air here (over my Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee's anyway), the bass so much crisper. Great review.

I prefer the guitar and other instruments on the classics it sounds way nicer and smooth while the Rokits made it sounds more mysterious and a little bit too dark

the difference between them were really different in my ears, it almost sounded like you were using a different drum rack on the 2 tracks! Awesome video as always really enjoyed this one. 5:35 Wait a minute!! In ur Rokit 5 G4 review u showed a different freq graph, which was flat AF!! 😱🧐 And then u showed the JBL graph, which was crazy AF, but it did conform to my tests as well (I have those JBL's)... But I was so surprised that the Rokit's had a FLAT response in contrast to all their fame about hyped bass!! 😱 Welp, here u are showing an entirely different graph for the exact same speakers, but this time we DO see the hyped bass in the freq. But this time the issue is a) how can both the Rokits have almost identical freq responses when the Classic is supposed to be flatter? And b) how come the mixes were vastly so different if the freq responses were the same?! 🧐 B would be explained fully IF the freq responses were indeed different, as they should... Also, on their website the G4 is rated 43Hz on the bass response and the Classic only 56Hz. The highs are different too, 40Khz vs 30Khz. Thus ALL ur graphs must be wrong!

The two mixes are soooo different that it's scary. The brightness of the classics mix is nice but kind of harsh in my headphones. I would love to see these two mixes sent to the same mastering engineer to see how close he or she can get them...

Since its flat vs flat ima chaulk it up to the fact that the classics use class a/b amplifiers in them while the newer rokits use class d..class a/b better soundquality but less efficient and generates more heat (back of mine get pretty hot after an hr of play)...class d is way more efficient but lacks soundquality (hence why they give you the dsp to try and tune it better)..ive have/had both...sold the rokits and kept the classics..already spend to much time eq'ing in my daw..dont need to with my monitors as well...now...if they threw the dsp on the classics amp...oohhh boy that would be awesome...being able to cut all lowend off my monitors to blend better with my krk sub would be perfect!...take note krk!...btw not hating on either or tho...both are still great choices especially on a budget!

Nice review and great sounds by the way. Love the guitar tracks. I just bought the g7 for dj mixing. I find them very bottom heavy whichbis fine for DJ use. I already own the yamaha hs5 which I use for mixing.

Yeah man....I mean....let me tell you. I am never buying a set of studio monitors (sure in a year I will have ten sets probably), but I will watch whatever video's you make. I have been watching your videos since the beginning. I think our channels our the same age - but yours is much more successful. Eveything is amazing. Your video personality is super cultivated. Your B roll is killer. The sound (obviously) is great. The musicianship is great. Ridge wallet percussion is over the top subtle funny (but also played very tastefully). The beauty of not even putting on real pants to record the music - that's where you and I are different (aside for your huge success and my wheel spinning) is that I wear long pants for every video. But seriously all of your effort in cultivating this is obvious and I will show up to watch you talk about almost anything because its fun and the production value is so high. I didn't have any feeling about the monitors one way or the other - but the ridge wallet.....I stand with your dad

Could the difference in the mixes be because the Rokit 5s are a touch brighter in the critical 1-3 Khz "presence" region? You can see it in the measurement and it is audible when comparing the two on RU-vid.

what would be the best option ? i see a 130 difference on amazon with 3 yr warranty on the classic 5s is 295$ and on zzounds the rokit 5 g4s are 426$ w 3 years so a 130 difference i do want the flat response for better mixing but like he said in the video you can tweak it with the screen these have been my dream monitors would love the input from anyone thanks

My mixes using RP5 G2, yup gen 2 - a generation before the classic 5, translates very closely to Eve SC207. Your mix using the G4 sounds a tad too heavy with the low bass.

I have the G3 KRK Rokit 5s. My left monitor is busted. It keeps cutting in and out and I ruled out the cable. I need to replace it. Do you think that the sound profile for the G4 is so different that I need to replace both of them? Or do you think I can get away with just replacing the one monitor. I tend to use my headphones for mixing and then compare it to the monitors.

Question. How important is it to have two of the same Rokit speakers (Left, Right) while playing music? I bought a KRK Rokit 5 G3 RP5G3 powered studio monitor 2 years ago for 200$. I wanted to buy another one but I think it's been discounted. I found a "KRK CLS5G3 KRK Classic Studio Monitor" for 200$ and it looks exactly the same except the back of it says "Classic 5 and the one I have says "Rokit 5" on the back. I guess what I'm saying is that, will be any downside of playing to different versions of speakers? I'll be connecting them either through my audio interface of directly through my mpc. So should I buy it?

In general, you should really try to get two of the same monitors if you're planning to use this for audio production at all. That being said, the classics and rokit g3 are probably as similar as you can get between two models of monitor, so if you had to go this route, its probably you're best option in terms of pairing two different monitors together. You should probably expect some variation in frequency response, so you may want to measure the room if possible and see what each monitors frequency biases are.

For me there is a difference, from what i listened on youtube , one is bass and two is mids ....i went for classic but now after a day i want the g4 because i dont like the bass of the classic :((..........i went for the classic because they have class A/B amplifier but in the end i think class D sound as good as A/B ,dont let you tricked by that like i was !!! :)) ...........definitely go for G4

Wow. The mixs are way different. Classic mix is much too bright while the modern is way to dull and boomy. I think the boomy works on this track mixed with the classics high end. lol

Idk why but the classic sound more vibrant for the mix vs mix. In the store they only had rokkit and it sounded like wondering was wrong with the high frequencies. I bought classics and they sound really good for all frequencies.

The reason you hear such a big difference between the speakers, is the G4 converts the signal to digital for processing, then converts it back to analog so the signal can be sent to the amp. Personally, I don't think this is a good way to do things. When the speaker converts the signal to digital, you take a big hit in sound quality. For example, if you have an investment in high quality gear upstream of the speakers, the speaker negates all that in the conversion process. Lets say you bought a really good audio interface for $1000. They have both AD and DA converters built in, just like the speaker. The difference is quality. If you run the signal through low end electronics, you get low end sound.

it's subjective yes but I will say if you have good headphones you already like, youtube videos showcasing monitors with proper sound (like this one) this far for me were spot on wether I liked the actual sound or not bought the rokit 5 g4 and they sounded just like the video that made me buy them rather than yamaha or whatnot in the same sense I listened to sony WH-1000XM4 heapdhones videos and they sounded all bass no treble and after buying them they do, violently but I wanted noise cancellation 1st on them, I currently use krk rokit 5 g4 on a small desk and love them, ear opening if you can say that after a decade of dreadful "2.1 pc speakers" I didn't use the rear panel equ but tuned the curve with equalizer APO which allows whatever you want equalization and sound filtering..you want a 800 bands equ ? you can make one very easily

after 10+ years of logitec pc speakers the 1st two days after installing the KRKs I lowered my gaming chair closed my eyes and listened to every music style I could think of, also had to check if there weren't an orchestra and singer behind my monitor listening to movies scores....both will give your superb sound (once tweaked for your own ears)

I can say once again that my (tuned) v-moda crossfade m-100 headphones were right on target, your rokits mix has less highs and mids which is exactly how the G4 will sound out of the box I did something like 2k +1db 4k +2db 8k +1db on my 5 G4 but with 20years of djing my ears aren't a good "reference" ;)
