all that roping/belaying and tying off must take some time to master ... experience always matters,, nevermind the mind over matter bit -- this is really a sport to contend with, i enjoyed the detail in the video ,, thank you
That was so fun to watch thank you! You are so fast at those rope transfers my heart would not slow down. I want to do that so bad but I live in the wrong part of the world right now. Thank you for the wonderful adventures!
This is a truly great video! I just finished reading James Tabor's 2010 book called "Blind Descent", and despite its riveting descriptions, I had no real idea of the depth of Krubera and the sharp, unforgiving nature of its rocks until I watched this. A picture is worth a thousand words, and a video can be worth a thousand pictures! Thank you for posting this.
I could tell not 5 minutes in that he has decades of experience and had been down that cave dozens of times before and knew it like the back of his hand. Its crazy just how many anchor points he had to work with just to repel down, and he didn't even reach the bottom, if there even is one, after nearly 30 minutes of constant movement.
Damn, I love your style. Good idea to clip into the hand rope, so you're still safe after the rebelay. You don't bind off the rack, so you're pretty fast, just slip the rope over. I need to do some experiments with that. What's the brand of your rack? BMS? What I don't like that much is the way the 2 point anchors are rigged. You do it with a figure of 8, connecting the loop to one anchor and the short rope to the other. I prefer the rabbit ear knot, but that's just my personal opinion. Anyway, you're one hell of a caver. Best regards and stay safe.
I’ve done my share of climbing 🧗♂️, on the wall as we call here in Wyoming / Montana, which means rock-climbing. And I’ve done my share of cave climbing 🧗♂️. Ascending & descending. But for the life of me!! The way he is descending down down down, to me, IS SHEER-FUCKING-MADNESS!!!! I cannot for the life of me!! Figure out exactly what it is, how it is he is doing it!!! I swear to God I cannot!! In the last 25 years I’ve never seen anybody do what he’s doing!!!! Not here in this part of the States. Because from looking at it, it doesn’t make any damn sense whatsoever!!! He clips in, then it appears he drops a short distance, then clips in again!!! but how can this be, when he was clipped in before , 20 to 30 feet up!!! To me and to several other climbing 🧗♂️ friends of mine, all 9 of us are in full, agreement. You have to unclip before you can clip in again and keep descending. And when we belay out here, we don’t go just 20 feet 🦶 30 feet 👣 or 40 feet 👣 we belay 100 🦶 feet 🦶 or more!! there’s not one thing he’s doing that makes any sense whatsoever it looks like a good way to kill yourself!!!!
has anyone ever taken drill samples to see how far down this limestone layer goes? depending on the depth of the limestone, the cave may keep going significantly deeper.
I'm from Ukraine. A very terrible war is going on in our country now. When the war is over, we can resume exploration of the caves. We are open for cooperation! But first, we must win!!
