True, beautiful....but almost Strains the Intellect....like those late Beethoven sonatas...

Zimmerman exemplifies his extraordinary and perhaps unique delicacy of touch in this performance...his ability to nuance almost defies belief. Magnificent. I much prefer this piano version (Brahms own) from the String Sextet Op.18, to the original.

On frise le sublime aussi bien dans l'interprétation que dans la partition. Merci Clara !

It is a transcription by Brahms himself.

Plus j'ecoute Zimerman ,plus je suis convaincu qu'il est le géant du piano qui remplace les Gilels, Richter etc...

Just as inspirational and exquisite as the original piano trio, Op. 18. Clearly, Brahms could and did write some of the most beautiful melodies around. (As for 'abstract'music, je is one of the three greatest composers ever!)

Adapted from the second movement of the String Sextet No.1, Op.18!

WHY on Earth this wonderful recording was never released!

Zimerman wasn't happy with the quality of the piano sound on the recordings of Brahms he made with DG - none have been released on DG...one hopes he will change his mind one day.

It sounds far better (and clearer) to me than when for string sextet.

Very interesting... is it a transcription by Brahms himself?

Yes it is. Brahms transcribed this movement for Clara Schumann, who really adored it.
