This video was uploaded in one of the best years of my life. i used to listen to KT a lot, and still do so I can feel like I'm back at that wonderful time of my life again.
Wow, this is so different from the album version. This is what she meant when she discussed about the mixing after she recorded Eye to the Telescope. She wasn't part of the finishing process and KT revealed how different the final version sounded.

I watch this video constantly...KT's melodic voice and appearance is enough to love but add the band's performance is awesome. I love the setting for the video as well...so serene..when I move from the city to that video location, well suddenly I will see!

Very unusual. Where is this music coming from? Where does it fit in? Certainly it's not going to make the "top ten." Does not fit into any obvious classifications. Yet...very nice.
Yeah, I'm an expert on the history of popular music. Yet this piece of music (and others like it) doesn't fit in: does it derive from rock 'n' roll, folk music, blues, soul music, etc. Is it something entirely new? Where does this originate? What kinds of influences lead to this piece of music (and video)????
Richard Koenigsberg I assume if you had to put her in a category, she'd have to be a mixture of indie-rock through to folk. Apparently she began her career playing in indie-music bands. Got all that from googling her and from my own knowledge having listened to most of her songs.
Thanks very much jakeslife01. In my generation, there was no such category as "indie-rock." What does this mean, exactly, "indie-music?" And she isn't in the tradition of earlier folk singers (Judy Collins, Joan Baez). Maybe Joni Mitchell is a kind of "bridge" to her: folk music transitioning into a very personal style (still rock 'n' roll), like "Waiting for a Car on the Hill." How would you classify that? Or "Court & Spark."
Richard Koenigsberg I think maybe artists like Brandi Carlile and Angus & Julia Stone have taken folk music and added a more "rock-like" vibe to the beat of the songs to give them a bit more 'punch' (for lack of a better word). And then on the other side of the coin there are bands like The Verve and even Snow Patrol that have taken rock music and the idea of ballads and added a more "folk-like" beat to it, while remaining rock. I feel like the category of "indie-rock" is the two of these ideas meeting in the middle. I'd also recommend a listen to the English Indie-Rock band "Gomez". I think it's fair to see Joni Mitchell as a bridge to this modern folk/indie vibe. "Car on a hill" is a song I've not heard of. I just listened to it now and it reminds me of something Jason Mraz might sing. I think court & spark edged more towards what's often considered "alternative-pop" in the current industry. Might I recommend "Lenka" as a depiction of that genre. I hope this helps :D

What happens after this (from 1980 to the present time). What is the evolution of this kind of music...before it became what it is today?
