To the people who know nothing about motorcycles but like to brand KTM as chapri bikes rather than calling the rider a chapri need to listen to this. BTW I ignore the noise. I do not own a KTM and will not own one ahead but I know that KTM is the reason we fell got into performance bikes. They kept on giving us the taste of high revving machines. They have won literally almost all of the Dakar(19) races. Neither the africa twin, nor tenere have achieved this feat. Coming from relatively unknown country of Austria and not been well funded like BMW nor having racing DNA they introduced the RC8 and are now going mainstream into MotoGP as well. What other credentials are needed.
Shumi just put his heart out in this video. Could feel how happy his soul is and content of having a conversation about his 390 Duke and it is priceless. Cheers Shumi.
Thanks for publishing this video, Shumi and team MotorInc! It adds a lovely perspective to your ownership of the bike, and why you feel whatever you feel about it. Would love to see similar stories about other bikes…maybe a story about Kartikeya’s Hayabusa, ‘Ra’ (or others on your team too)! Cheers!
I used to ride 2013 Duke 390 a lot back in the days, it had no slipper clutch or traction control or what so ever but man this is the best duke 390 I ever ridden, it's lightweight and man it pulls so hard than current Gen Duke 390. Back in the days when I was going for top speed run it reaches 178 kmph like it was nothing but this Generation are bit slow they struggle after 160 kmph . 2013 Duke 390 clutch lever was very hard and my hand used to pain a lot ridding in the city . It also thought me how to become better rider. When I got used to that bike it was so much fun the handling was great as well and then I learnt you don't need fancy electronics or traction control etc ...and Now I'm very happy with my 2023 Triumph street triple RS Carnival Red . Do miss good old Duke 390
I have the same model, I can relate to every word you said. This bike is just a LEGEND!! I do not ride it as often I used to but I know we are going to the grave together. 💞💞
I would say this is the only video which I have seen so properly with respect to what you’ve said about the 390 til the end and it shows that how much you respect the 390 so much , although I have little knowledge like about whether EV, scooters , bikes and EV cars … but I’ll guarantee you that I’ll understand it sooner with your channel , because later in the day I was seeing some shorts of MotorInc about TVS iqube , which made sense how’s it a good choice and how does Ather and Ola S1 pro outperform it , it made more sense than the other channels and it’s still kinda confuses me which EV is the right choice ….either way all that I wanted to say is how great of a explanation you do and you nail it … great video ❤ Aditya Chaudhury ( Bangalore)
We knew how much you love it when you keep mentioning it on a video of best 150-200cc bikes in market you just keep on saying you can get a used 390 at that price !!!!!! 😂 Can't agree more that bike really set a benchmark I too have a bs4 390 duke in which breaks are already really good from the factory just have to use sintered pads . And I'm thinking about getting a powertronic too ! Just one question have you changed the stock air filter while getting a powertronic or the air filter is also stock ?
Damn Shumi, happened see this beautiful put together long term review on D390 now and feels so similar to my thoughts. I too own the very first lot delivered on 18 Sep, 2013 (215K/-). Its decade old now with 40K kms and always serviced myself post warranty. Trust me other than 3 sets of Chain sprockets, 2 sets of tires, 2 batteries, around half dozen front fork oil seals and regular consumables, i never put a penny more on this beast. So happy ownership compared to my RE's i owned prior. Great machine with raw handling. Could you help with those Front disk details to buy one. Waiting for River Indie to deliver as i prebooked.
Why am i feeling emotional after watching this video 😅. I am 18 with a dream of buy a bike or should I say buying the KTM Duke 390. It was like the star of my eyes a kid who dreams about a beautiful car/bike. But I don't know weather i will be able to buy it or not 😢. But ya i have promised myself that in the next 3-4 years i will buy my dream and it will be standing in my garage waiting for me to put the key and pull the throttle and using those 44 horses on the highways and ya don't worry i am not like those chapri riders i have the knowledge and the responsibility too. Hope my dreams get fulfilled. Anyways signing off. Take care and hustle hard guys 💪😉
It feels like the universe just answered my prayers and you guys dropped this video. Heard so much about Shumi's 390 on ThisConnect. Also, I love the fact how sweetly Shumi talks about his 390 with all the love in the world and would surely love to see more of his garage. Looking forward to Singhee getting to ride his Figo soon.
I've never learnt how to ride a motorbike in my life. Always thought a car was enough. Started watching shumi 's content after a friend recommended.. his passion for bikes is unmatched and contagious. It has turned me into a biker head and I've signed up to a riding school. Thanks man. 😊
The MY2014 to MY2016 Duke 390s isn't just another motorcycle, they are assets! This model 390 is one of the best neck-breaker ever to have adorned the Indian motorcycling fraternity. Such a fun, scary and kick-ass motorcycle...Excellent video Shumi.
Honestly, every time any old Duke used to pass I always checked wheather it is 390. That's how much I feel excited for this machine. So I just bought 2016 model couple of months back.❤
@@rushigalande1not recommended as most bikes are thrashed and abused . If at all you wanna buy then buy it from someone who is the actual and only owner and not from a bike dealer. But parts will be not as easily available as before if you have any type of issues as already my 2015 ktm rc 200 is facing parts issue.
Shumi and his 390 are a match made in heaven. I feel exactly the same about my TVS Star City +, of course, it's a commuter motorcycle but I know every bit of it, the best the worst and I enjoy it every single time I ride it. @MotorInc pls don't stop making such amazing videos. Cheers👏
Shumi's taste in modifcation is tremendous people usually prefer the aesthetic side of the bike in terms of modifying it rather than the actual mods which can completely change the character of motorcycle and completely how it behaves, great work👍
Wow Shumi, the sheer love and passion you have oozing out for your KTM- remarkable! It is definitely a great bike to own & ride, I have had one since 2014 too but never been so much in love, heck I think I like yours better now! 😅 Just one question though- What’d you do to your KTM’s seat to ride it for such long distances? 🙈
I just gave it time. The first 3,000km ride was a pain in the butt. It's been nothing but perfect ever since... no changes. I did wear the seat material out (started sliding around on it) so I told the seat guy to get the same material... and _to not touch the foam_ *at all*!
Shumi bro i want a suggestion from you for my secondary bike. My primary duties are fulfilled by pulsar 150 which i brought back in 2020. Now i want a touring machine which have wonderful handling with good looks. My mind was into mt15, ns200, duke 200,rc 200, gixxer sf250, vstrom 250, domi 250. What will you choose or dou you have any new bike to suggest below 2.5lakh brother?
Tears filled my eyes. This video is by far one of the finest POEM I have ever came across, I remember feeling the same when I read "If by Rudyard Kipling" few years ago. I resonated so much with your love story because even I'm in a beautiful relationship with my "Rekke" (A Kannada word) which I hope would turn out to be a long lasting and fruitful one. Rekke is my 2022 Hero Xpulse 200 4V. I'm extremely grateful to this era which allows us to cross paths with many intense individuals just like you are from whom we can learn a lot about not just what they speak about but how and why too. More than everything I'm eternally thankful to my parents for comprehending the way I am with motorcycles and for buying me an awesome machine that I am enjoying completely at while I am still 22. The main reason for my love towards you Shumi sir is not just because of the way you speak about motorcycles, it is because of the person you are. I am doing what I love and I'll continue to do so, Be whatever it is that I do I'll do my best, that's what I have reaped from your work, You are the man who does whatever it is you are doing by giving out 100 percent. To me you more of a message than a man. I'm sorry for my intense, not well timed love letter but sometimes a poet can't stop words drooling out his pen. Thank you for everything, see you track side. Keep Evolving... -Aranga.
My thinking was the same when i bought my KTM Rc 200 (it was unobtainium for me) back when it launched but convinced my family to pitch in some cash, my bike was 6th in my city at that time of launch, but as covid hit and after that i lost my job, with a heavy heart and a sad face i had to let go of my ktm, after getting financially stable again and feeling dull in life, after seeing this video all the feelings came back, how fun was riding were and definitely will get another one someday.
Hey Schumi, Can you suggest a rear shock upgrade for a 390. Does the same r6 kinda setup work and does it require any other component changes or is it a straightforward swap ?
Straightforward swap. No changes needed unless you're so heavy/light that you need to change the spring itself. For Shumi's riding style, he's seen between 71-79kg on the stock spring.
Man! This is one of the best video I've ever seen for a motorcycle! I can feel every bit of what you are explaining on my bike, which i ride for 9 years! Kudos to the channel for providing such an amazing content.
OMG.... I have never seen Shumi sir so calm and composed. Having a bike for 9 years itself tells about how much you love it. the video showed a different side of you that I am not sure we have ever seen in the past. Its a very beautiful relationship between Man & Machine. CHeers to many KM on it.
A proud fellow owner of the 390 gen 1 duke dear Sir! Have followed your journey as well, owning this beauty have been a phenomenal experience. 2 years of ownership and I already know, she is never going away from my garage. My duke is gonna be a lifelong partner. I may and will get other motorcycles, but she stays. A legend in its own right. Lovely video Sir
The bike doesn't have heat issues... it's never shut off. It probably does run hot. But Shumi says since he _never_ rides without being in full gear, he hardly ever feels it
I remember your first review about 390 Shumi. You sat near it's front wheel and kept praising it. Rare thing from you. Every sentence said back then still holds true. What a machine.
As they say, when you really love your bike it becomes a part of you and it becomes like a family. You'll always find ways to make it better but you'll never gonna sell it. That's the beauty.❤
Since there's no point on increasing that queue of your selling that bike, I would definitely dream to source a clean bike someday and spec it exactly to your one ...Those white wheels never felt so attractive on any other bike than Ferocitas
Nothing less than perfection 🌸 This is one of the motorcycles the D390, I wish to own in future, am waiting to own and will be a fun to own. It can keep pace with super-bikes and at first test ride I got connected to D390 rather than A390. Thanks Motorinc to bring this pure and exalting video 💐❤
What are the considerations when one decides to install a powertronics piggyback ECU? And at what stage of the motorcycle's life is it most beneficial?
I'd say if the bike is new, don't bother. I got mine 8ish years later... when I was used to its power but I'd upgraded the suspension and brakes etc by then.
We think what Shumi's saying is think of mods as two things. First, a way to fix a small issue that might improve your ownership/riding experience. Second, as a way to add a new feeling to rekindle the fires when it starts to feel boring and normal.
I think this will go for another decade and if I push it another lakh km or more without needing much. But I also understand that a motorcycle is just a collection of engineered parts... all of which have a life and all of which can be replaced. So in that sense, they'll also run infinitely
Thank you for the video Shumi & team. I have been hearing about Shumi's 390 for the longest time and frankly I could listen to more. As a Duke 390 owner myself, I could connect very well with the insight shared by Shumi, especially the keeper part. I still love it and will be keeping it for rest of my life too. I have clocked more than 3x times what Shumi has done but this bike still feels like new. Fuel it, shut it & ride it has been the mantra for its long life span I suppose. Hope to see Feorcitaas in person some day on the road.
Have you had to rebuild the engine with more than 90k on the odo. Im planning to get one but im wondering how well it will hold up in the hands of someone who won't abuse it.
❤Shumi san... I know we've spoken about this multiple times in person, but I have the exact same feelings for Shukuji. She incidentally came home just a couple of weeks before Ferocitas. I simply can't get enough of that motorcycle. You said it so rightly... "She's a keeper"
Shumi Sir deserves a lot of respect since he speaks on behalf of his motorcycle and it is clear how much he loves his vehicle. I have never seen even superbike owners this passionate and respectful about the machines they own. It serves as motivation for someone like me who has yet to get his first motorbike. #motorincfam ❤️
Shumi Sir, I have a question for you. I wish to change my Avenger 220 cruise front sprocket from 14T to 15T to have more top speed and smoother experience at higher speeds. Should I do it? Please answer.
Never change front sprocket. You want 14 to 15t which drastically decrease pickup. Also, by changing sprocket, you can achieve more top speed but it takes lot of time.
Ah the KTM 390. My journey with Rastaman started in 2015 and ended in 2021. I was looking to upgrade from my Pulsar 220F (Turbokat) after having spent close to 7 years and over 80K Kms. My first preference was the Ninja 300. At the time, it was coming up to around 4.2 lakh on road in Pune and was way out of my reach considering my salary at that time. Then, PowerDrift came up with the review on KTM RC 390 and I was just hooked to it. Watched it countless number of times and finally just went ahead and booked one and it was at almost half the price of the Ninja 300 with better safety kit (ABS). Once I took the delivery and rode it for the 1st time, I was totally surprised and amazed. The first 1000 to 2000 kms were absolutely amazing. I was discovering Rastaman, understanding it, unlearning and learning to ride. Over the next 30,000 KMs, every moment was absolutely amazing. We travelled from Bangalore to Chennai, Pune, Hyderabad, Mumbai. I even rode it for almost 20 hours when I decided on one of the weekends to do a joyride from Bangalore to Pune and back. Everything was just beautiful and brilliant. Then came the 1st trouble. In 2017, at around 32K KMs on the odo, right after a scheduled service, I headed from Bangalore to Hyderabad and at around 12:30 in the night and about 70KMs away from Hyderabad, the bike just stopped and just didn't turn on. Took it to the service centre, spent quite a bit and got things fixed. About a year later, in 2018, yet again we hit the highway and were headed to Pune. About 200KMs into the journey, somewhere near Chitradurga, it stopped again. Got it back to Bangalore and fixed it. These two breakdowns didn't bother me so much but when it happened for the 3rd time around August of 2019 when I was returning from Hyderabad to Bangalore, I decided that it was time for me to move on to something more reliable for highway trips and ended up buying a Ninja 650 (Razor). Though I had Razor in the garage, since I didn't want to let Rastaman go, I had him around till 2021 for intracity trips. The relationship came to an end when I wanted to buy my first car. Do I have anything against Rastaman? Absolutely no. Simply cause it was the KTM RC 390 that helped me discover my capabilities, helped me in the process of improving my riding and more importantly, it made me enjoy biking - short and long distances. Every time I traveled to office on it, my energy levels would be high and it would be so for the entire day as I used to look forward to riding it back home and take the longer route ofcourse. My Rastaman - absolutely amazing. He taught me a lot, helped me discover my riding capabilities, helped me enjoy long distance touring, helped me enjoy the force of wind at high speeds, helped me fall in love with biking. Fortunately he is with a friend of mine and I am glad I get to see him once in a while and take him out for a spin, relive those moments and just feel good and happy. That's my story with Rastaman. Coming up - My story with Razor when the next one MotorInc orginal comes out.
I have also D390 very much happy with bike but the problem is after sales and services. I am from solapur city there is only one Ktm service center POOR Quality work. If anyone knew Good ktm Mechanic in pune pls help me
Omkar. Good service cannot be cheap. It's why service is such an issue in India. And people who are good rarely hurry. But feel free to look for someone else.
My list of modifications: Weight loss - 1. Lightweight 428 chain from DID 2. Lightweight 428 sprockets from Jomthai (total chain kit weighs 1.3kgs lesser stan stock) 3. Lightweight new gen Duke alloys (didn't want to fit the new gen suspension so got custom made front axle adapter for a direct fit also have sent link to you shumi sir in insta if you're reading this) this mod saved 3.5 kgs and made it more flickable. 4. Lightweight front and rear wave rotor by motomaster (lighter than stock new gen discs by 500gms) 5. Shido lithium battery weighing only 600gms 6. Tail tidy and mudguard/sareeguard removal reduced another 4kgs Performance- 1. Nmw racing ignition coil 2. Ngk laser iridium spark plug 3. Nmw racing valve springs (to tolerate the extended 500rpm after ecu remap) 4. Barnett racing clutch kit 5. Velocity stack and sprint air filter from brentuning argentina. 6. Custom ecu remap by brentuning argentina. (Stock fuelling is crap and choppy. Super lean in low rpms below 4000) 7. Ceramic engine bearing by WWB. 8. Ceramic wheel and sprocket bearing by WWB. 9. SAMCO radiator hose. 10. Engine Ice/Evans Coolant. 12. Adv 390 dual radiator fan. 13. Heat taped fuel tank and airbox. (Cold air+ cold fuel= more hp) Braking mods: 1. Already mentioned about rotors up top. 2. OEM KTM brembo sintered front pad and rear brembo sintered pad from RE interceptor. 3. Master cylinder with adjustable brake lever and adjustable clutch lever from new gen duke. 3. Frentubo carbon brake line kit. 4. Liqui moly dot5.1 brake fluid. 5. Pirelli Rosso 3 tyres. Functional/aesthetic mods. 1. Apache mirror in stock ktm stem for a larger viewing area. Bolt on mod just remove screws behind the base and fit them. 2. One finger clutch kit from eBay.(just a stretched clutch holder clamp which decreases the clutch wire distance towards the clutch lever) 3. Andreani front fork cartridge kit (preload adjustable and weighs almost 500gms lesser than stock setup) 4. Bitubo rear suspension. Fully adjustable and weighs almost a kg lesser than stock. 3. White and orange painted areas re-painted with radium/glow in the dark paint for becoming more visible to others at night) 4. FeRetrofit 70w laser projector kit (Had to upgrade to rc390 stator coil and rr unit to comply with this mod. Now lighting at night is terrific) 5. Stock replacement Denso relays and fuses to take care of the electrical load. 6. Side stand sensor bypass. 7. R15 dual horn. Bike weighs 136kg which is same as the stock duke 200 bs3. So you can imagine the power to weight ratio and acceleration after all the mods.
@@shu_mar Glad you like the mods sir. It's just a habit of mine to install the best possible premium parts to all my vehicles which will not only serve the purpose but also add my own signature to it.
@@shu_mar may be you must also have a podcast on your crashes and what you have learned from it and how you have gotten better, it will help the audience as well.
We all have that one bike that is the apple of our eye. Ferocitas is that for Shumi, may be more than that! 😊 Such a wholesome video! 😊😊 Go Team MotorInc! Go Shumi! ☺️☺️☺️
Another 20 some years down the lane & this bike would become a cult classic, much like the RD350s, only so much better . . Duke 390s are in a league of their own, much like the MC Hammer song . . You can't touch this‼️⛔ I AIN'T NEVER SELLING MINE EITHER. PERIOD‼️🔥🔥❤️
Will it be wise to get an old Duke 390 like yours in 2023-4 second hand as a first bike? I'm going to be 18 soon this year, I'm currently learning to ride on my dad's CD Deluxe which is as old as me and going to get my first bike very soon, I was really into the Royal Enfield 650s because my dream bike is the 1970s Kawsaki Z1 (and that's why even though I've never actually ridden anything I am really into retro bikes), but for my first bike I was thinking about something like a Royal Enfield hunter, but then I found out that there's a lot of old Duke 390s from 2012-2018 selling on olx for nearly as much as a new pulsar n160 here in Kolkata, should I get one?
Please dont put such video you make me emotional as last month only I sold my 11 years old Pulsar 200NS as I was upgrading and now feeling like bring it back to my garage again....... Bikes are emotion and Bikes are unspoken feeling...... Love this video Shumi .... ❤❤❤❤
Nice video... Question: what would be more convenient between Honda CB300R, equipped with touring accessories and KTM Adv 390 for touring India including Ladakh, after that use the bike as daily commuter??
Since you're going to Ladakh once and commuting everyday, we think you should get what you like for commuting... that bike will take on luggage and manage Ladakh, no matter what it is
I bought a pre-owned 2017 Duke 390 in October 2021. I want to get a new bike now, since I really like the Super Meteor 650. My family wants me to get rid of my Duke first before I buy another bike, because why do you need 2 motorcycles. They don't understand that I'm very attached to my Duke 😔. Any idea on what I should do? I postponed my Super Meteor purchase but it's hard to explain to my family that a cruiser shouldn't be the only motorcycle in your garage.
Can u recommend a great mechanic / garage In MUMBAI.. Who can help me modify a ktm390 In some ways like the way u have modified yours. My pincode is 400049 But it doesn't matter I will gladly travel 50kms in any direction Inorder to...
Sir, honestly I never watched a complete video of yours, I Don not have much knowledge about bikes like you have, I have my bike KTM RC200, I love it, my first bike, however due to so much hate for these machines in society for so called squid and chappri culture I started questing my choice. But I understand it's not what other see but I like, you video help in that. Thanks for your support biking community in India. A serious ktm rider give you his respect and deeply appreciated your work. Regards Utkarsh
Yesterday i decided to buy a KTM Duke 390 2014 model , only 5500 km driven with all service record. I am getting this deal for 1 Lakh rupess but i was little confused if i am making a wise decision to buy this beast in year 2023. After watching this video of yours i think i am making a right decision 😅 Do share your views of the deal i am getting. Is it worth it?
Should I upgrade from my mt15 v1 to the duke 390s?. I have been riding only for the past 2 years. And still every time i open the throttle on my mt15, i just love it. So my question being when should one upgrade from say a 150 cc to a bigger bike?
Don't think of it as cc to cc. Think of it as bhp to bhp instead. It's more accurate. Shumi's thumb rule is twice the horsepower is an upgrade (start out careful!) and anything less is a change
In 2015 I bought a rc 390 and was the most unreliable machine I ever bought, gave me nightmares the coolant kept mixing with engine oil every now and then overheating the engine which made me nervous on long rides, rusting screws, the mechanics in KTM at the time had no idea how to diagnose and repair issues with it, the engine light was on forever after that. Finally sold it off in 2018 for half the price for riding it for 11k kms which tested my patience inside out. By the way from 2010-2015 my r15 was the sweetest and most reliable machine any one can blindly trust
It's true! There was a time when it felt like no one could buy a fast bike in India without considering how it compared to the nearest KTM model first!
To be honest, I never liked the Duke 390 or any of the KTM bikes because of how some degenrates drive and post it in social media showing off how they’ve done close calls and all, but after hearing a lot about Ferocitas from Shumi, I started liking the Duke 390 and if I were to buy a bike now, the 390 would be my first choice
One thing I cannot understand. Is how does it has only 30k on the odometer is 9 years while riding as much as you say it did. I have had my Access125 for 5 years now. And already it has 29k. And it hasn't left Delhi yet. I am not comparing as to which is a better number. I just can't wrap my head around the fact that 30k in 9 years. Especially with someone like Shumi. If you see this comment by any chance please help me solve this.
Shumi averages about ~45k km/year (we think). But he rode four (now three) of his bikes, plus something like 55-60 two-wheelers a year on average. 🤷🏽♂️ For reference, he put 55k km on his Multi between 2016 & 2021 despite not really riding during the C19 phase. Plus 9K on his Tuono... 🤯
Would it not be good if KTM offered the major modifications mentioned here as a package or as individual power parts? Having said that I have a Motorcycle from 2012, no matter what one says, it stays, and, I will keep it for as long as I am alive. Very few companies in India take rider feed back seriously. I do not know why, but, it is high time companies force their designers and engineers to ride, ride long, and, two up, so they understand what they have designed, produced, and, how it feels.
I also own duke 250 bs6 23 variant , and i can feel every single thing you told about yourr 390 , I now many many of guys refers rc and duke as chapri bike , dude how can be a bike chapri ! Although i loveee my 250 never gonna sell herr 🛐💗
How fare would the Duke 250 perform? , will it be as thrilling as u say like the 390 or wld I be happy settling for FZ25 which is almost a lac cheaper..?
The 250s not this angry. It’s a little calmer and not slow at all. Most people find it lovely - go take a test ride! The FZ25 is a wonderful bike but not thrilling at all. It’s pleasant and very sweet.
HI Shumi, I have rode this bike and it is truly an embodiment of what an all rounder is I want to ask you more about the oils that you use, like do you prefer specific Coolant Front fork oil Engine oil Brake oil Why I am asking this is, cause in my head I feel that these make a larger impact in my riding comfort but want to know from an expert if these things actually matter or not, as these are expensive add ons compared to what KTM actually offers Also, the KTM service actually pretty pathetic, so how do you generally go about it
No. We just go with whatever's reasonably reputed and easy to get. There's hardly any truly terrible quality oils out there. See the pinned comment for details but it doesn't make a massive difference.
The core different is temperament. The KTMs have calmed down a lot since the 2013 models today but the 390's a high-energy machine. The Yamaha's not slower, but it's a lot more composed (based on R3 experience)
quick question Shumi(this is a very very stupid one though): How many kilometers do you have under you in total?? Round figure it up to the closest thousand/ lakh..
