Picked up a clean 2012. Thing is amazing. Alot of these upgrades can start to add up. I'm loving not stressing about the price on tires, pegs. tank, fuel mods, bars, guards, lights etc. knowing I paid about about $7,000 less than a bike off the showroom floor. Just throwing it out as another option. They run forever if cared for well. Have fun with your builds, cheers.

I weigh 165, so with the exception of the suspension you installed, I built a similar modified 2023 KTM 350 EXC-F. Wow. I know they aren't directly comparable, but I have a 2022 CRF300L Rally. I spent $2,300 in extended travel Rally Raid suspension (adjustable fork cartridges and adjustable rear shock with a remote preload adjuster), $80 for CBR300 cams, $28 for CBR300 Velocity stack, $220 for a cheap full stainless exhaust, and $149 for a tune. Feels like a completely different bike and I have no regrets. I weigh 260 so stock suspension was dangerous on and off-road. Raced a 2022 stock DRZ400SM with an FMF slip on recently and we were neck and neck up until 72mph where the DRZ slowly crept away by a few feet. I've jumped it a few times and it just soaks it all up. At face value people think you're crazy to spend 50% of the cost of the bike to make it safer on and off road, but once it's done you understand the value absolutely there.

Wow! An honest review which tells how great all the bling stuff is, but says you really don't need it?!? Crazy! I picked up a 2020 500 last spring which already had a bunch of the goods on it. Love it! Would love to see more 500 content from you. Did I see a Recluse on your bike? Would love to hear your opinion on it. Mine came with the CX, and I really like it. Only question I have is can you do clutch-up wheelies, or is the technique different? I still can't do wheelies, but am trying to learn...
@EverySingleSunday
@EverySingleSunday Год назад
I run a Rekluse cover because it’s stronger and holds a little more oil than OEM. I usually ride lots of technical off-road and I will not run an auto clutch. I’ve tried them and they take too much of the feel out of the bike for me. I know some people love them… but it’s not for me. And I always try and be honest in everything I do. Glad to see you back riding and posting again. I missed the videos. With you having the 6500 cartridge kit and I believe the bladder upgrade as well?? have you ever run the full cone valve spring forks and super trax shock? If so I am interested in your opinion and comparison between the 2 different upgrade paths and what you feel the full fork/shock upgrades gives over the cartridge kit and bladder kit. I have an opportunity to go either direction, obviously the full setup is over twice the price of the cartridge & bladder kits but taking money out of the picture how do the 2 compare.
@EverySingleSunday
@EverySingleSunday Год назад
The cones are too stiff for off-road trail riding. They whole body doesn’t flex enough to absorb all the small bumps and stuff. Cones are amazing for GNCC racing or SX type hits As for the shock I haven’t ridden a good trax shock. I had one but never had it setup for me. I also hear great things about the national shock
@rodsmith5812
@rodsmith5812 Год назад
@@EverySingleSunday Thanks for the response. Very interesting feedback regarding the cone valves, I'm glad I asked the question. I assumed, incorrectly it seems they would be the ultimate for all off road riding situations but it sounds based on your experience they are more targeted towards high speed racing with big hits. I was thinking the Xact Pro and possibly the Xplor Pro air forks would have been designed for the high speed, big impact riding situations whereas the Xplor Pro spring forks would have been targeted more towards trail and hard enduro riding where speed is greatly reduced vs the other disciplines.
@EverySingleSunday
@EverySingleSunday Год назад
I was so excited when I got my cone valves… I misunderstood as well They are great. But I just prefer the 6500 kit in the stock forks now that I know I also run the stock silver cast clamps that come on the EXC/XCW over the nice ones from XTrig or even the black one from a SX/XC….
@rodsmith5812
@rodsmith5812 Год назад
@@EverySingleSunday Suspension is a complex item it seems. Very interesting to see you also go back to the OEM style clamps found on the EXC/XCW models preferring their characteristics over the split clamp design of the X-trig. I would have thought the split of the X-trig with opposing cinch points (or even the Factory spit triple clamps found on the factory edition bikes with parallel cinch points) to be comparable to the cast clamps vs the solid clamps found on the SX/XC/XCW Erzberg/6 Days bikes but it appears you can feel a difference between the split design and OEM cast clamps. Do you also prefer the enduro triple clamp bar mount setup of 2 or 3 mounting holes vs the single rubber damped option of the SX/XC bikes?

I am more of an aggressive rider but only weigh 165lb so the suspension on my 2022 500 exc is spot on for me, I use to own a 2018 KTM 500 exc and I had to redo the stock suspension, too soft even for my weight so I totally agree as Beau and Travis stated 2020-2023 stock suspension is better for enduro riding right off the showroom floor.

Question from a Newb, if you would: I dislike the “clear” oversized tanks, especially because they look old after sun exposure (the color of the plastics degrade). I get that being able to visually SEE your fuel level is practical. But couldn’t a solid-colored (if available) be fitted with a fuel level sensor, and accomplish the monitoring while not having clear-turned-brownish tank ? Thanks for your content.
@EverySingleSunday

They sell them in black or natural. I’ll take a tank I can see the fuel level in over black every time. These don’t change color much. The stock KTM tanks fade and discolor way worse than the Acerbis tanks

There are several solutions to that problem that I have read. Some of those roads looked fun from the drone on a medium-high shot. You can't see what the composition of the roads is. I do not Doesn’t make enough of a difference The preload adjustment is for adjusting for different conditions once you have it dialed in

Set the SAG but if over 190lbs respring both ends. Watch Jeff Slavens Racing vids on this subject.

@@1-Wheel-Drive I run more sag for hard enduro. I like the back end lower and don’t care if the bike turns. For faster singletrack, I’ll run the rear higher so the bike turns better. This is on a bike that is setup for me with proper valving and springs. So yes, you can tune the feel with preload. It’s why checking your sag is so important because it can make a bike feel very different

Is it required to send your ecu in to taco or can you purchase and download those maps?
@EverySingleSunday

It is a full replacement. You unplug your stock ECU and replace it with theirs

@@EverySingleSunday gotcha. I have a GET ecu for a 2023. Looking for pretty much what you have: good fueling, open it up a little if I need it but still smooth.

And you could have bought a Beta RRS and had it mapped and thrown a FMF full system on it.
@EverySingleSunday

But then I’d have a Beta and would be selling it for nothing to buy a new KTM and start the process all over again

Selling it for nothing? Whys that?
@4kracing797
@4kracing797 2 года назад
So if you sell it for nothing, wouldn't you be giving it away? I don't think the current Betas are in any way inferior to KTM or Husky. Both of those brands are awesome. I was simply stating that Beta RRS models run good off the floor and can easily be remapped with RE and FMF maps. That and a suspension job, and you have a badass bike. Last years NH&H championship proves that.
@EverySingleSunday
@EverySingleSunday 2 года назад
@@4kracing797 I’m my experience selling betas vs KTM they don’t bring nearly as much on the used market. A year old KTM I’m good shape can usually get within 1,000 of what I can buy one for with a slight dealership discount. Beta, Sherco and the smaller brands have a good following but it’s much harder to sell As for riding the bikes. I like the beta and Sherco in tech stuff but not nearly as much at speed. They feel small to me and I’m just not a fan Good bikes for sure and in another 5 years I assume they will be even more refined

The bikes are good stock. They are better with springs… they get better with valves… and they get better with full cartridge kits. All depends what you want your bike to do. If you enjoy the upgrade, it’s worth the money every time.
