The first 8 minutes of the July 13, 1992 news broadcast on KTUU. I recorded it to catch my dad Gary talking on the news about the Wasilla sales tax (which ended up getting voted in) and I stopped the VCR right after the story.
It's interesting seeing things that are completely different (like the whole Target area that used to be Cottonwood Creek Mall) and things that haven't changed since the 80's (like the other side of town by Westside Center.)
Woah! I didn’t know that Alaska’s Channel 2 used the Great News Package music! That’s kinda rare for this neat find! This was about a year later before they used another theme composed by Gari called Advantage.
I’m loving the vintage KTUU broadcasts! I noticed the station was using the same voiceover for the intro when they went into HD all the way till 2016 I think
The intro voice on nearly every single KTUU broadcast until 2016 is locally renowned advertising executive Ken Flynn. His firm (Walsh/Sheppard/Flynn) is still active, but he retired in 2016.
Very interesting. I can’t really recognize Wasilla but then I did a little when I saw Wasilla high football field and Iditarod, the chevron station and the Wendy’s sign.
