My husband had the same issue and it was very frustrating for months!!! Finally, he blew compressed air from the fuel line to the fuel tank and it unplugged the fuel tank. He has no idea what the block was, it just worked and so far so good. Plus he installed a raycor fuel/water separator filter. Again, so far so good!

I have Kubota BX and it seams like a common problem. I have installed a cold brew coffee infuser filter. I found this trick on RU-vid. It fits perfectly the fuel inlet cap. Stop foreign material from going into the tank and have to remove the tank to recover bugs or other things.

Dirty fuel tank seems to be a common problem. There are 2 fuel filters. The one under the tractor plugs first.

Thanks I like u worked through it and that was exactly what happened to mine the service person said same to me. Got so frustrated I looked for vids and urs was great. I’m not diesel mechanic and liked ur thoughts and walk thru bought new pump they laughed and said waist of money and boom it started right up and I’m mowing again. So again thanks u saved me so much time. I got water in my fuel I can tell you how to fix that and not how they say to expensive.

I was you 3 years ago with my tractor. The gas cap problem they told you to check for is to make sure that the fuel pump isn't trying to Pump Fuel from a tank that can't replace the fuel it takes with air. It's like those coffee mugs with an airtight lid and if the little tiny hole gets plugged you can't get coffee out of it. Also the other problem with diesel is that a bacteria can grow in it and make the fuel gel up and clogged stuff up

Thanks man that was awesome …. the walk through of your troubleshooting steps was perfect. I’ve been thinking my problem was fuel pump but couldn’t get outta work earlier to check it and have time to still go get one before they closed, but I’m guessing when I walk out in the garage momentarily, that’s what I’ll find, I already checked fuel flow in front of the pump (between tank and it) and replaced filters, and fuel blasted outta that line when I went to change them so I’m thinking your problem is my problem :) Thanks again either way this was very helpful! And I for one, like a good rant every now and then with something so obviously…..OBVIOUS! :)

It's a bee in the tank!! LOL Or maybe a grasshopper. I'm dealing with mine now. I started with filters but , Nope. Mine runs for a while, then starts cutting out. The pump works somewhat because I saw it pump out fuel when the key was on and the second filter was disconnected. I can hear it "working" but it still isn't consistent. I hate guessing and replacing parts trying to chase down a problem but a new pump. only $20 and will be at my door tomorrow so, we will see. Also, if you and I spent less time ranting, we might get more done. :)

Also, a quick note for anyone experiencing these type of problems. I replaced both filters because it was easy enough and they needed to be replaced anyway. I was happy when it started and ran fine. I drove it to the space I was working on, turned the seat around to use the backhoe and it started failing again. My next though was, it must be the pump. $20 on Amazon and I can install it tomorrow. I went to take another look because I was pretty confident that the pump was working. I saw it pump when I was replacing filters. I got it started and it would run long enough to raise the buckets. I turned the seat around and was going to try to limp it was driving the machine into the shade. The thing ran fine. I got off in the shade and it started missing a bit. I got back on and drove it toward a n actual covered carport. I noticed that when I leaned a bit left to avoid some trees, it missed a bit. Then I remembered that this had happened before. I found good shade and took a look at the safety switches under the seat. Sure as shit, the front one was failing. My seat didn't push the switch all the way down like it needs to do. When I held the switch closed it ran fine. when I let it up it would start to faulted in a few seconds. I haven't looked closely enough at the safety circuit but I know it is my issue and can be easily fixed. Tractors = love/hate relationship.

Hey Man, this will be a long comment so i will first say THANKS!!!!…. I have a slightly larger tractor (B3350). But mine did the same thing this morning. Been retired a few years so between RU-vid and some great folks at our local Kubota dealer, I have learned to be a half assed mechanic. Usually I go get a new fuel filter and it cranks right up and I go about my business. Not today. So i disconnected both lines to the filter and nothing!….. The fuel lines and pump are new to me so that is when i stopped at your video…… While the machines are different, when you traced the fuel route and showed the pump, i realized the fuel flow was opposite of what I thought. Got in touch with the dealer as they were closing and like you he said “just pull the tank and flush it out”!!!😅😅😅😅.. But, now knowing which line came from the tank from your video, I was able to get it off and blow into it and clear the obstruction!!! Put everything together and finished the job. Obviously I still have crud in the tank but may be able to take care of it without dropping it. Thanks again!.. JDaddy

Great video! I had the exact same issues with my BX23S at 97 hours. I replaced filters, dumped that tank cleaner stuff in, and after much frustration with the stupid primary filter, bought a relocation kit. The kit came with a strainer for the fuel tank though. Sadly, my issue wasnt the pump but a plugged tank. Blew some air in and it works great now, but someday will have to clean it out somehow I guess.
@robertwey309
@robertwey309 Год назад
Your rant about no filter under the fuel cap is completely justified. If a bit of debris can stop the tractor, then it should come with a filter. Especially when you consider there's a 3"+ gaping hole when you remove the lid just begging for something/anything do drop in.
@dead4life469

Thanx Stacks, I used the same funnel technique (funnel with a paint strainer) to drive my BX24 out of the back 40 to the shop so I could use my hoist. Since that was successful (had power to drop the BH & FEL) I knew it was somewhere between the tank and injector pump. I got lucky when I hit the hose with air and pow the clog released. I am sure I will need to clean the whole tank soon but it got us out of the rain. No matter what anyone on here says: If an idea solves your problem that is all that matters. Just because they are engineers (book smarts) does not mean they have street smarts. I am making a screen for my filler neck and am adding a Raycor filter. Thanx for the video and for all the folks that commented. I hope to get another 1400 hours out of this little beast. Peace~Out

11 hours on a BX1880 and I think this is my issue. I get fuel right up to and past the pump, no problem. Even under the hood when I disconnect the line as long as I hold it low enough. My pump makes no noise when I turn the key to "on", but does have voltage going to it. I usually heard it clicking. Glad to see this since your troubleshooting was very similar to mine and my dealer also didn't seem interested in my fuel pump theory either at first, jumping right to debris in the gas tank/line/filters. They're going to take a look at it next week.

Legend!!! I was looking in the owners manual for fuel pump location. My BX23S died in a trench. Ended up laying in the mud.. disconnected the fuel filter before pump. Nothing flowed.. put low air pressure on filter and blew back into tank.. debris or blockage in tank cleared. Able to start tractor and drive it back to garage. I'll dump tank and replace filters now it's out of the video
@gaetansimard1594

I would have tried to see if the fuel pump was actually pumping instead of installing a funnel. When you turn the key the fuel pump is activated, was it any fuel coming out before the secondary fuel filter when it was disconnected? If you put your finger to stop the flow from the fuel pump, is it any pressure at all? Anyway you fix the problem this is the main thing. This is just the way I would have done it.
@stacksfarmstead
@stacksfarmstead 2 года назад
I was lead to believe there was a blockage in the fuel tank. So we started there. Then tested the engine, then the fuel pump, considering it had less than 50 hours on it, it was the least likely possible problem. It shouldn't have failed. This was, in my opinion, the best way to troubleshoot the issue. Thanks for watching a d commenting!

I have experience the same issue. I have relocated the filter between the tank and pump and added a water seperator. I have replaced fuel pump once. As strange as it sounds when my tractor gets down to 1/2 tank of fuel it stops running. I can blow air into the exit of the tank a fuel flow is restored. I feel there is something related to fuel Guage that is failing and blocking the fuel flow. I have also seen where many have experienced the same issue.

A diesel engine only needs air and fuel to run. First troubleshooting method is to remove the fuel line at the engine, turn the ignition key to ON, not Start, and watch fuel flow. If it sucks, then work your way back along the fuel line to determine the restriction problem. I could be the filters, the electric fuel pump, hoses collapsing, water accumulating in the low fuel lines or something blocking the outlet in the fuel tank.

This is SUCH a common problem. Bc the tank ITSELF has a tiny pinch point BEFORE it reaches the fuel line. If the fuel filter presence implies that deisel debris is inevitable, why is kubota so quick to blame the owner for this happening to countless tractors?! Please notify kubota that this kind of design failure is unacceptable.

I'm going to have to amend my comment. It seems most of the inexpensive pumps on Amazon are junk - many failing with less than 100 hrs on them. So OEM may be better... but shop around, dealers can be greedy. My local Kubota shop wanted $210 for the pump. I found the same OEM Kubota pump for half that mail order at Coleman Equipment in Kansas.
@biggmott82
@biggmott82 Год назад
I completely agree with you the Kubota dealers would be wise to possibly have some classes even if they charged a little money for them because everybody didn't grow up on a farm and everybody don't know how to use tractors and service tractors you go you buy it they thank you and that's kind of the end of it everything else is trial and error more error than trial LOL 😂😂😂

@@stacksfarmstead Ended up actually not being a bad fuel pump and was a blockage at the fuel tank. I pulled the hose On the tank side of the filter and I hardly had a drip coming out. I blew 2 big spurts of air into that line into the tank and then the fuel just started spuing out and I haven't had a problem since
@rhymereason3449
@rhymereason3449 3 года назад
Kubota's design gets even more ridiculous... most do have a little screen in the gas tank on the fuel pickup line. Debris can plug that screen over time and then you've got to tear down the tractor to the tank to get to it to clean it or sometimes you can blow the debris off by blowing out the line from the first fuel filter to the tank with compressed air. They should just leave that screen off and let the first fuel filter catch all debris... it's a LOT easier to change the fuel filter than to try to clean that inaccessible little screen on the fuel pick up line.

Wow, newb, you have got alot to learn. Your negative attitude wont get you far. I`ve been operating farm equipment on farms for well over 60+years, and i`ve yet to see a screen in a filler neck of a tractor. So get use to that. Your first fuel filter (before the pump) at the DIESEL tank takes care of ALL the debris. A screen under the DIESEL fuel cap isn`t necessary. You had a bad pump likely from day one and it finally gave up. It happens. Your tractor looks beat pretty bad for only having 50hrs on it too. Even the rear cover on the seat is missing. Here`s some advice, take it any way you want... go easy on the service department. Its pretty damn hard to have the right answers without the tractor being there in front of them to diagnosis. And bee`s in the tank? That`s a good one, LOL... there is no way for them to get in there unless you put them in there from your own fuel can, or leaving the cap off the tank. So whoever told you that is an idiot for saying that.

Question to see what you think I have a Kubota bx2200 just went down during the blizzard. no start fuel issue. there is fuel in the 1st filter down from the tank. key on fuel pump clicks and pumps through the hose to the 2nd filter but only if it's disconnected. when connected it will not fill the 2nd filter before the carb. Maybe not enough pressure from the pump ? Any thoughts. Thanks !
@stacksfarmstead
@stacksfarmstead 2 года назад
Honestly I'm a beginner at this, but with that said, my guess is either an obstruction in the filter, or possibly a pump issue. The filters are cheaper, maybe start there first. Even if it isn't the filter after you have one less replacement when its maintenance time, also depending on the temperature where you are sometimes freezing temps can effect deisel fuel, you can actually find things that look like wax in the filters causing low flow. I hope this helps. Let us know how it goes. Thanks for watching!
