Hey, Thank you for sharing this video (and your other videos!). I used to be a big kubota fan - great experience with their engines in other equipment in the past. Bought a kubota tractor 5 years ago that I mistakenly upgraded with another Kubota tractor 2 years ago. Won't make this mistake again. The diff lock on both kubota tractors failed. Both were under warranty when they failed - Kubota claimed operator error. First time I thought maybe I did something wrong and treat the first incident as a one-of; got it repaired for $3.6k. Later in the year I upgrade for a cab model - big mistake. The new tractor's diff lock failed at 14 month mark. Kubota dealer claimed operator error again but it happened in winter when I was clearing snow off my driveway and tractor had little traction on ice. Also, the second tractor saw hardly any work - it was only used for mowing the lawn in the summer and pushing snow off my driveway in winter. This diff lock is a faulty design. I am looking forward to getting rid of this headache and getting a domestic tractor this summer.
Absolutely their engineering is at fault. It isn't the engagement that busts them up, but rather dis-egagement, as it isn't quick and smooth, and as in my other videos, parts bind up and will not disengage the pins until they 'work their way out' and usually under severe stress, and the pins snap. I have had good success with my diff-lock mods, was using it the other day, the most recent video posted. 500 hours and still working smoothly. Operator error ---- bullshit ! LOL
I give ya credit man, and don't take this the wrong way I just heard "thingy" a bunch of times lol, but instead of bringing it to the dealer you're doing it yourself with (I'm just assuming) little knowledge of this particular machine. Most people bring it to a mechanic (me) and don't bother with even the simplest repairs. I hope ya got it fixed!
I have quite a few videos, about BX thingys, including a final engineering operation which has been awesome, and a simple resolution to pin failure and failure of the differential lock. I am an engineering student, a mechanic since 1970, and a home renovator, doing all aspects including plumbing, electrical, tiling, drywall, cabinets, etc. :-) thank you for the compliment.
Buddy, I just got mine back from the Mechanic. Exactly one year old and this one cost me $2400.00 usd. The replacement parts are exactly the same as those that failed. Problem is that I only needed to use the Diff lock a few times and completely stopped my 25d to ease it in. SO in essence the warrantee is crap. Which is the reason I wanted the Kubota product in the first place. Not only do they know about this design flaw but it assures a lot of future income to their service mechanics. I am disengaging the pedal today. Its a fine tractor as a 3wd. If I need to get unstuck I will use the backhoe or tow it out with my truck. I cannot afford to ever use the Differential lock again. Brand new tractor with Grapple. $21,000.00 cash yearly maintenance $1500.00 new Differential lock gear set $2400.00. Kubota bx25d is lookin like $25,000.00 out of pocket year one. What other poison pills Have they engineered into this money pit?
After re-enigineering and assembling mine, I am again having a binding issue with release ! I have not checked it out..... grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr but it will be annoying to take it apart again, after only a few hours use. I believe the diff-lock shift fork metal is too soft for their intended use, they need a spline assembly instead of a pin !
