For all the hate Karan Johar gets, it's undeniable that he is self-aware. He never claimed to be making critically acclaimed movies. He always made escapist movies, movies that took you out of your mundane, everyday existence to a different, rich, luxurious world. And in the early to late nineties, he made Indian films LOOK GOOD. He introduced labels and brands, and made his heroes NOT LOOK like they have never seen a pressed shirt in their life. He deserves credit for raising the sheer aesthetic value of an Indian movie.
Completely agree. We need all kinds of movies from hardcore realistic to fun and fluffy. His films are young, fun and escapist. Honestly what's wrong in that? what's wrong in having beautiful people wearing beautiful clothes shedding designer tears? I love them. And he is self aware and just fun and light. Sometimes we really need to stop taking our entertainment so seriously.
@@lekhamenon8980 yeah I agree, I like watching critically acclaimed and serious kinda movies but the 2000s karan johar movies like kal ho naa ho, K3G, KKHH are like my happy place❤ I can just switch it on anytime and it instantly lifts my mood! I don't care if the scenes are not realistic😅 these movies make me HAPPY.... and sometimes that's ALL you want from a movie❤
SRK can't laugh and guess what all his fans are crazy about his laugh. His laugh in Darr, his laugh in BAAZIGAR, his wicked laugh in Don. Come on KJo his laugh is Trademark. I am glad he is bad in it, still people are loving it. That's SRK for you.
@@ilma9376 ae dil hai mushkil was alright as far as direction goes. My name is khan was good, probably his best work. my bad about soty 2, I hated the first 1 so much, I didn't pay any attention to the 2nd one.
7:46 u watched it once and u remembered dialogue,,, now imagine we have watched it a hundred times, how much we love it... Each n every moment of this movie is an emotion itself❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Karan johar was srk's best friend in DDLJ the film, he assisted aditya chopra on that film they are related his dad and yrf's yash chopra's wife are siblings therfore kkhh was produced alongside yrf
@@nicks231988 Thank you for responding.. Biyer phool and Raja ki ayegi baraat came before both Ghulam and Kuch kuch hota hai.. As far as I know.. Although Biyer phool is a bengali movie so KUch Kuch hota hai would be her 3rd bollywood film but fouth in Indian film industry..
Karan s movies are not meant to be critically acclaimed, they are meant just for shear joy so you guys should stop the cringe etc....we as a indian audience loved them....
Yes but now it's cringe and that's a fact. And good as well, we as audience should keep evolving. Since we find it cringe now shows how how much we have evolved
I feel like they're insulting karan johar a lot.....I just feel very protective of his films. And it's not like ONLY karan johar made cringey stuff, in the 90s and early 2000s every romcom was cringey. And we should appreciate that in kkhh, atleast the female lead had a good role rather than JUST being the love interest like in every other film. And for a debut film kkhh was damn nice
It's not really their fault. They're raised on Western cinema, so they're used to a particular style of acting and they have been for a long time (similarly to how Indians have grown used to 90s/2000s romcoms and their style of acting), so they when they see the older Bollywood acting, they can't help but cringe because it's so unlikable to them and they're not used to it yet.
BTW, Karan and Shah Rukh both knew from day 1 that these films are going to be extremely over the top and cringy. It is not that they donot feel it is not. Because public demands this🤗. So there is no harm to say Karan/Srk s early films were cringy but we grew watching them so cringe is now nostalgia for us.
Look we can make fun of Karan Johar movies without insulting Karan personally. I feel like during the whole nepotism scene, people were so so insanely horrible to Karan.
Karan is very self aware, like really. He knows what he likes, he knows why he likes it, he knows what the masses will like and those are the people he make his films for. I'd say Student of the year (1st) and Ae Dil hai Mushkil shows his journey as a director as well in the romantic genre.
Even though kajol felt left out when it came to the love part. But I always thought that rani always felt like the 3rd wheel when it came to the friendship of SRK and kajol.
kkhh was basically all about the love story of rahul and anjali so rani was the third wheel... her character also realises it that anjali hold a special place in rahul's heart...
kjo is awesome...You can see how self aware and critical kjo is...having given the biggest blockbusters of Indian cinema whihc have great fan base...He still is very grounded and cool about it
True. KANK is very underrated because of the controversial subject matter that people forget how good and mature the direction was in that film !! One of SRK & Rani's finest performances in their career.
Next srk film wl be' Paheli...' with super beautiful rani mukherjee...I wl make sure film is totally different in every way & grounded as well...on background of rajasthani culture ❤️
People really think that people who make massy or action movies don't know what they are doing and they don't have talent. But in reality, they not only know about direction, but also about the audience psychology and world. It is extremely smart of him to make these movies then, and we still love them, no matter how cringe or over the top they are. KKHH, K3G, etc are masterpieces in their own right.
Exactly, for relaxing ang joy we can't always watch the Godfather😅...entertaining the audience ,was the prime purpose of these movies,n these guys are constantly comparing them aff....
1- Veer Zara srk and pretty zinta 2- kal Ho naa Ho srk with pretty as well and saif Ali Khan 3- chalte chalte srk and Rani 4- KANK ark and Rani with big B and little B so good movies and I love them all 5- for kajol ( fanaa) it was with Aamir Khan and this one especially one of my personal favorite I watch again from time to time ❤❤❤❤
You guys heard SANTHOSH SIVAN here....You guys should react to his work..its over the top..Ashoka,Urumi etc...pls guys he is so good...I assure you You will love his work....
Why do u guys find this cringy? Or I mean is it just me?😅😅 even after watching this movie after 23 years I don't think this is cringy at any point....😅
You definitely should watch more of Rani!! Movies like Hichki, Laaga Chunari Mein Daag, Hum Tum, Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic ... and different style but I think she is brillliant in Dil Bole Hadippa! One of my all time favorites 😄
I watched this movie when it was played by the indian students association in NIU. We laughed through the movie yet enjoyed and appreciated it thoroughly. Karan johar broke some barrier with his debut movie and for the life of me i cant figure out what that barrier was. Lol.
You MUST review 'Veer-Zaara' starring SRK, Preity Zinta and Rani Mukherjee. Is it me or anyone else thinks that Rani always gave her best shots as Supporting Actress or in two heroine movies(eg: K2H2, Chori Chori Chupke Chupke, Yuva, Veer-Zaara, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna)?
The unassailable thespian video reaction is wht IAM waiting for hope patreon is smart enough to do it after that video a keyhole viewpoint will change to size unknown
Body shaming is still a big part of Indian comic scene and get the hardest laughs from a section of the audience! At least some people have started realizing that this is not ok though.
I aim to gain the level self awareness and acceptance that Karan Johar has... You've gotta give it to him! Thats a sign of being a good artist... You know abt your plus & minus points!
"like the whole movie was logical" You don't need logic in commerical movies pal. They are intentionally made that way. And if you still try to find flaws or logics in such movies, then you don't know how to watch cinema. I don't expect logic in star war movies
There are parts of this film that are cringe but this movie as a whole is not cringe. I personally loved seeing Jaby and Achara's review on this movie more because they had the better mental framework to recognize many of the things that made it amazing. I don't mean it in a hateful way, and I love both channels. I just think this time they had the better perspective.
You must watch 20 years of kuch kuch hota hai celebration with SRK KARAN KAJOL and RANI!!! They discuss all the moments from the past!! Funny emotional everything!!💯❤️
Guys pls watch the koffee with karan episode with SRK,Rani and kajol. It’s one of the best episodes. Also btw even after knowing you Guys mispronounce kajols name,y’all still can’t pronounce it right😂
I love this film so much that i remember i wanted to go to college just to live this kind of life.. but unfortunately real colleges are not the same... Specially mine was a typical mahavidhyalaya where we have to wear uniform till final year.. :(
This movie was my first movie watched of bollywood movie, it was lovely and memories have still it up with. Thankyou for review about this movie. Love it. Keep it up 🥰 you guys should watching k3g and veer zara 👍 recommended
I find Rick being defensive about Kajol both adorable and a tiny bit problematic. Rick is a father of two daughters, so it makes sense. The problem is, people tend to sympathize with women a lot more when they are a "victim" of unrequited love than men, because women are not afraid to cry or seem vulnerable which makes people emotional while men try to act strong. As a man, if a 300 pound woman likes me a lot and cries, does that mean I have no choice in this matter? I have to date her or I am a bad person or "dumb and blind"? There is a double standard here that we don't talk about. Women don't have to harass men, because people around her will do it for her. If the genders were switched, we wouldn't get mad at female Rahul as much for friendzoning Anjali who is an effeminate man. We need to understand that when we are emotional, our moral compass gets fucked up and we act like jackasses.
Yes quite right. I watched kuch kuch hota hai again with sometimes earphones thrown away and sometimes closing my eyes. Its that cringe. But I just can't stop revisiting it.
Fact: for Aman's role karan wanted a big celeb bt nobody wanted to do it bt Salman is such a kind guy he being a huge star himself wanted to do it also for free of cost just bcz It's karan's debut & he's his sisters frnd,,, Rani's role was rejected by all the leading ladies then Rani did it bcz She's new & srk,Kajol did it bcz they're his frnds also he's costume designer for Srk ( then It's became huge blockbuster of all time & celebs were regretted why they refused it)
There are few films which the 90's generation has grown on..n we still love these movies. For any1 who knows or follows Bollywood movies, these are must watch! 1) Hum Aapke hain kaun (starring Salman Khan and Madhuri Dixit) 2) Hum Saath saath hain (big cast including salman, karishma, saif, tabu among others) 3) Pardes (a must watch SRK movie) 4) Hera Pheri (an all time classic comedy) 5) kabhi khushi kabhi gham (again big starcast) 6) Koi mil gya (starring Hrithik Roshan and Preity Zinta) 7) Nayak (starring Anil Kapoor, Rani Mukherjee) 8) Hum Dil de Chuke Sanam (with Salman, Ajay Devgan, Aishwarya) Kuch kuch hota hai, DDLJ you have already seen!
You guys need to check an episode from the same series where the director of Badhai Ho talks about the long take scene where the grandmother yelled at her kids and sides with Ayushman's mom
Dharma & YRF are THE two biggest movie production houses in India, and last year's controversy notwithstanding, KJo is still one of the two high priests of the Hindi film industry, the other being, of course, Aditya Chopra. So, yes guys, he has produced a few films!!
There is no doubt beyond my mind that Karan Johar is a great director but I honestly can't forgive or forget his bias in the industry. Especially what happened with Sushant and finally realizing who and what he stands for. It hurts my heart that the man who made these movies a part of my childhood is who he is.
AE Dil hai mushkil, karan's latest movie. Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma. It was made to prove that a boy and a girl can be friends 😂😂😂 as in 'Kuch Kuch hota hai' Rahul and Anjali were not friends
Karan Johar is openly gay and was obese till he was 18-20 I believe. His parents always supported and loved him and never made him feel as if they thought that there was anything wrong with him. Same cannot be said of other people in his life. He has had only first world problems his whole life. But, he has a solid emotional and moral core because he went through emotional struggles and the whole world seemed to think at the time he was growing up that being gay and being fat were the two of the worst things to be. Portrayal in Indian movies was also horrible to say the least. This core shows so clearly in his personality and films. He is very aware of the ‘cheese’ or ‘cringe’ of his content. He is fascinating to listen to because he is a really strange combination of fluff and substance!
