Just got back from Nevada the attack pants work flawless never got cold I hunted until November 5th with them I didn't realize I could be so comfortable while I was out hunting. It is kuiu for life for me. I never even put the axis product on that I purchased. I just used some of their mid layers and the guy Jack and I purchased I've never been so happy with hunting clothes
Ordered the Guide Jacket, Two Merino Long Sleeves, and two merino socks. Tested the base layers (including merino underwear) for 7 days straight without changing and I still don't smell lol. Merino Magic Wool.
how did they size. I usually wear a Large but I'm told...Merino is sized right so I'd get a Large, but the Peloton synthetics I'd need an XLarge. What was your sizing results like?
Mean as bro you got the full kit👍👍 I’ve been looking at going the super light weight clothing route for a while now. Just gotta save some pennies 🤣🤣 that gear ain’t cheap.
Noticed you said “it’s not as warm as I thought it would be” a good bit. Goes all back to your base layers. Wear a ultra merino 145 top and bottom. Then put a pro merino 200 top and bottom over those. Peloton is not my favorite. Doesn’t take long to sweat from doing a lot of miles and Peloton is soaked which means I’m now cold. Get the axis pants and jacket. Has waterproof panels. 100% windproof, heavier weight than the guide, and has fleece lining. Honestly you may be wearing too many layers while moving. When I’m moving I don’t wear anything but a top base layer and attack pants. Then when I start to slow down, I’ll layer up.
Most of this stuff is ment for moving and covering ground. Marino and peloton bases are ment to go close to skin to wick sweat so you don't get cold and dry fast. Then when you hit the 200 weight you put it over the 118 or 145. Then you put on the peloton 240 or the strong fleece 280 or 260, something like that. You're still light weight but good to cover ground hard and fast. Then if you're still a little cold while walking, you throw on the shell, guide or axis type. Then when you stop that's when the insulation layer comes out. Me with the 118, 200 peloton and then 280 strong fleece, I'm good to walk down to 25f, then with the shell if it's a windy 25f -4c. Everything kuiu is based on walking hard miles to get into position, then pull out the insulation to sit. Remember that if you're ordering. I like peloton better than the wool because it drys faster, and I like the Short sleeve as my base.
I've got a lot of kuiu gear, but I can't find myself to like any of their polyester tops or bottoms ... they're too sticky when hot. I don't like any of their gear for warm/hot weather, but I do like and wear several pieces for colder temps.
Great honest review. Cheers. Ive been looking at their gear for a while now. Where can you get it in New Zealand. Is in On line only or do some hunting stores stock it. Cheers.
Good review Gav, agree the gaiters are good, had to go a size down on the merino baselayer as it was too loose, attack pants ok but got a rip in mine from scrub bashing and the material pulled badly but like the zips to heat dump and the pockets, Peloton top is warm for its weight 👍
