A rare demonstration of the Korean martial art of Kuk Sool Won during the 16th Bercy Martial Arts Festival 2005 in Paris.
This was the first demonstration in Europe.(Black is worn as it is associated with 'wisdom' in Korean tradition ~ white is the typical colour worn at funerals).

I was taught the art of KUK SOOL WON.I did not choose the art. I assure you with the proper training any art is deadly. It is not the art that makes the person, it is the person that makes the art. Martial Arts is a way of life, a means to better ones self in all aspects of life not just self defense. Master Bruce Lee was a great teacher of life, adapt to your situation and you can overcome anything. Wise words if you ask me.

It's like the 30 years that have tested one martial art against one another in Vale Tudo and UFC type events never happened. People who have never pressure tested their systems keep on spouting the same old shit. So why do you suppose it is the best all around fighters in the world (either in the ring or on the street) consistently have backgrounds in the same half dozen systems?

Thanks for the video content! Forgive me for butting in, I am interested in your thoughts. Have you heard the talk about - Schallingora Family Friendship Scheme (Sure I saw it on Google)? It is an awesome one of a kind guide for revealing some simple military style self defence techniques to protect your family without the normal expense. Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my mate at very last got astronomical results with it.

Ki Do Hae is not Kuk Sool Won. Kuk Sool Won is taught by this man's brother, In Hyuk Suh. This is a break-away style and they wear the same uniforms, however similar they are, they are not a part of the WKSA.

What is the difference in terms of technique, forms, pressure points, joint locks, kicks, punches, weapons, or belt advancement?
@nihilityjoey
@nihilityjoey 7 лет назад
commandersprocket KI Do Hae has the same forms and techniques as kuk sool won, but because In Sun Seo took over the federation to keep quality control over the Hapkido in Korea they do practice and demonstrate techniques at hapkido events and seminars, that kuk sool left out of their syllabus in favour of others from say Shippalgi or other sources. But they still practice the syllabus of kuk sool won (with a bit of their own flavour, they are not a part of wksa so they can technically do that, not with the forms though).

Taekwondo development from karate some kungfu and boxing, Hapkido which is a dynamic aikido style and Yudo which is Judo with a different name. Many Korean martial arts are military arts and they combine all three with kumdo or weapon training. So instead of calling it all 3 different names are given and taught as one martial art. Between and during Korean War and Vietnam War it was called hwarang do. Another is teukgong or Tang soo do. They are different but the same. One thing the Korean martial arts shares is the thousand times a day everyday for ten years. That kind of deep training is what it takes to be super human and no one does it like the Koreans!

@ Randy Smith, go try it, then tell me it's a load of crap. I've had my head instructor demo stuff on me lightly, but he is so precise with his pressure point attacks that even a light touch in the right area is enough to drop you straight to the mat. Kuk Sool Won encompasses the totality of the martial arts experience, incorporating everything from striking with hands and feet, to pressure points, joint locks, all the way to ki breathing and ki gong, to archery, and even equestrian techniques. It's the real deal, if you don't believe me, just go have it done on you. ;-)

Poor brainwashed fool. Don't worry, it will wear off one day. In the meantime I urge you to consider how you're going to apply any of these 'amazing' techniques when kuk sool classes never encourage resistive training or indeed, how to go about applying them on an aggressive attacker.

Marcos Harrison You must be new to the world of martial arts and don't understand what forms/katas/etc. are for. What you're seeing here is naturally exaggerated to a point for demonstration purposes, but the techniques themselves are 100% effective. When it comes to applying techniques to aggressive attackers, you do know they spar too right?
@propanedreams
@propanedreams 9 лет назад
zentetsutakama I achieved my DBN rank in KSW before I realise that it was bunk. I'm aware of what forms are, and I'm now fully against them. Drilling techniques is fine, but not once in my 4 years in the art did I ever practice (nor even see, nor hear of anyone practising) techniques with a non compliant partner. As for the sparring, if you want to call ultra light, noncontinuous point fighting sparring then I also think it limits the practitioners - it doesn't even allow the application of any techniques that are claimed to be effective and useful. Not even something as benign as ki bohn soo 15, a basic hip toss used effectively in hard contact in almost every other art I've studied since leaving the won. Above all else, there is no sense of humility instilled in students because they never have their skills fully tested in any real sense. And so their ego goes unchecked, rising through the ranks until they earn a title and the whole power tripping package that goes with their academic knowledge. If you guys want to role play ancient Korean warfare all day then that's fight, but do it without the hierarchical bullying, bowing and nonsense titles. Finally, did you know that nearly every other martial art begin classes with a bow to the portrait as a sign of respect because HE'S DEAD? Last time I checked kuk sa him was still kicking it lively in his pimpin gold PJ's. That's not strange and cult like at all...
@zentetsutakama
@zentetsutakama 9 лет назад
Marcos Harrison I'm not sure where you trained, but frankly, they sound like they sucked and I'm sorry they didn't teach you correctly. I'm also talking about real, no points, full contact sparring (sorry to hear you never had that experience). Some KSW throws aren't really throws at all, but ways to break an opponent's wrist, for example. You fall like you're thrown as an effective nullifier. Again, sorry to hear no one taught you that.

The narrator just spouts info provided by the WKSA whether it be the truth. WKSA is not a well-rounded martial art and it IS NOT related to hapkido. Also, you od not learn "techniques" in KSW, you learn principles that are simply repeated so as to make you think you are learning something new.

@@mastermichaeldunchok , it was partnered with hapkido, until Pak decide to break away and create Kong Sin Pup and Tae Keuk Do, but that does not mean it spawned from it. @@KaptainCanuck No, I mean literally during the first 15 years of its operation in the 1960s and into the 1970s, it was called Kuk Sool Won Hapkido. It is hapkido, plus some kung fu hyungsae.

@@KaptainCanuck But the alleged history from the source is that it was not hapkido and is a different martial art than hapkido. It's not alleged at all that it was once called "Kuk Sool Won Hapkido." That is easily verifiable. The fluff is in the way they do their hapkido and their kung fu as well. Passive partners who jump into the air, stances that are too low and hyungsae that are too busy with meaningless movements, inaccuracies and poor research on acupuncture points, kigong that is pantomime rather than true breath training. But that is all in the WAY they train their content, not their content itself, which is still hapkido and kung fu and can be trained properly.

In my opinion, for what it is worth, i would avoid this martial art. Some of the techniques work, but in a real fight, the probability of successful technique application is really low. Also in my opinion arts like these, with "Grandmasters" are to be held with skepticism. Money trap more than martial art. That was definitely more impression doing this art after three years. You're better of with proven arts such as boxing, kickboxing, muaythai, wrestling, judo or jiu-jitsu or derivatives thereof.
@edwardanderson1453
@edwardanderson1453 8 лет назад
+Jeff Fountain ...I have studied several different arts (including Kuk Sool) and I assure you the other arts you listed can be money traps. With that said, I really liked my time training in Kuk Sool. The only negative I had was that you had to be at an advanced level (brown/black) before you started working on any type of ground techniques.
@lococavasa
@lococavasa 8 лет назад
+Jeff Fountain One thing I agree with about bjj Is that the end goal of martial arts Is grappling. Jujitsu in all it's forms Is best. karate for kicks and punches from a distance as well as aiki jujitsu. In close bjj judo and hybrid martial arts like silat kajukenbo systema etc anything that has combat grappling aspects well do. Given that you can grapple in the ring in the street your grappling has no rules that's were bjj fails in my opinion. I think aikido fails in that it doesn't address true combat it assumes people are compliant in a fight. I love the non violent philosophy and think it's best but when it's life are death aikido isn't going to save you.

Well I have done this art to brown belt and trained with others training for their second and third degree black belts. I know what this art has to offer. While there is good stuff there it is not worth the bullshit. If you want weapons defence in your toolkit penkat silat, kali, escrima and modern combatives are a better way to go by far.
@lococavasa
@lococavasa 8 лет назад
fmcra It's also been said that If you go into a fight with someone who has a weapon your goal is survival. There is a difference from knife fighting and self defense. If you go up against a trained knife fighter you will get cut no question about it. Then your whole goal Is to survive. What various systems offer are tools that may work under the right given situation. You have to find what works for you and train your heart out.

@TM-rh7zs

Nick G Pretty ignorant in my opinion... Its usual nowadays though for people to bash Traditional Martial arts eversince the UFC became popular... Then people took bruces lees advice 'Take what is usefull and discard what is not' then MMA was created to be a full combat sport that became a very popular sport but sadly created many ignorant people claiming Bjj / mma is the best and all other traditonal arts are bs... Anyway Kuk sool won is following the same advice of bruce lee and created a practical martial arts system from korean martial arts... And btw they are called break falls and are highly usefull in a street fight or any occurance that causes you to fall/slip... People who are skilled in breakfalls minimize damage done to themselves and has saved many peoples lives before
