What I interpreted is "The father was being harrassed by his employer and was given low wages than he earned. His boss even slapped him once for asking his own money of the work he did as labourer. But he didn't had the guts to fight back against injustice done to him. On the contrary, his son fought back against the iniquity done to him by that boy. ( When the big boy from the affluent family refused to let him bat on his turn and pushed him back).His son was fearless and audacious not a meek like him. That's why he said ,Mithai baat ek darpok k ghar m bahadur paida hua hai kind of thing. Also, he was happy over the fact that his son understood his condition and didn't demand kulfi from him also not when the kulfiwaaala was lingering there and also didn't steal it. Things we can deduce: 1: It's truly said ,"Child is the father of man." Here father was gobsmacked and inspired at the same time by his son's act of courage. 2. The kid though small in years was mature far above them .He understood the predicament their family was in.
