Welcome back guys join us on an exhilarating motorcycle adventure as we embark on a thrilling journey to the breathtaking Kumbhe Waterfalls and the historic Mangad Fort. Me and my friend Sahil we decided to check out these places. Kumbhe waterfall is one of the biggest and most spectacular waterfall in Raigad District. Nestled within the embrace of nature's grandeur, the Kumbhe Waterfall stands as a mesmerizing testament to the raw power and exquisite beauty of water in motion. There is another view point which is quickly gaining popularity (after being featured in a South Indian film called Varisu starring Vijay) from where you can get a closer view of the Kumbhe waterfall. To reach here you will need to descend through a route which is difficult, risky & avoidable. We took the route which has lots of loose rocks & dangerously slippery conditions (It’s more like a waterfall route). This route took about 45 minutes to get down but i recommend not to go there unless you are a hardcore experienced trekker. Even for a hardcore trekker like us we decided to not to go ahead on this narrow patch of rock which was very risky (just 10 -15 feet distance away from the viewpoint). As it would have been foolish of us to risk our lives. We retraced our way back to the parking area. How To Reach Kumbhe Waterfall Kumbhe waterfall lies in the Mangaon Taluka of Raigad. The nearest railway station to Kumbhe waterfall is Mangaon Railway station. Taking bus or a train one can easily reach Mangaon from both Mumbai (150 kms) & pune side (110 kms). Mangaon to Kumbhe waterfall (23 Kms) using Public transport: From Mangaon one can get ST bus to Kumbhe. Also there are sharing rickshaws available which will take Rs 50 one side. A complete taxi can be booked for about Rs 400 From Pune side one will cross Tamhini Ghat to reach Mangaon & can get down at Nizampur (a stop before Mangaon) from where you can get local transport to reach Kumbhe
Since we had lot of time in hand, we decided to visit the Mangad Fort. It is a survey fort which is situated in Borwadi, an area near Mashidwadi in Mangaon, a taluka in Raigad district. The fort is made sacred by the footsteps of the Maratha king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaja. Mangaon is situated about 150 km from Mumbai. The fort is 235 meters above sea level. At the base of the fort there is an old layout temple of the goddess Vinzai". From the east side, there is an entrance to the temple in the cow mouth type tradition. Near the entrance of the temple, there is a carved scripture of a fish and lotus. On the left side, there are four water tanks (wells) and a cave which can accommodate about 50 persons. During historical days this was used for storing food grains. On this fort, there are remnants of irregular's soldiery, a big house of "Killedars" (in charge of the fort) deputed by the king to rule and protect the whole area. To the south end fort, there is an open ground, where there has been military training. How to reach Mangad fort-From Mumbai- (112 km by road) regular State transport buses operate from Mumbai central/Dadar/ Thane to the Mangaon One has to take another bus/rickshaw to reach Nizampur (12 km from Mangaon) from where again a rickshaw will reach you to Borwadi (4 km from Nizampur). From Borwadi it is a walk of 1 hr to reach the Mangad fort. From the village Borwadi, the fort is seen easily towards East. It is also approachable from Villages Mashidwadi and Chach.
