In 1968 I worked for the first time with Karate-Do in the literature by Masatoshi Nakayama. Later as a student in the 1970 years at the University of Munich, I had the opportunity a few years Shotokan Karate training. Later I dealt mainly with a simple and effective self-defense, I still train today.. I must say that my Karate has helped it in basic training very wide. Now at an advanced age, I have benefited a lot.

Excellent, effective techniques. Classical shotokan strikes. That Sensei it's real good instructor. Wish I spoke German to understand what he was saying. Attacks are quick and direct. Towards end he was emphasizing tai sabaki which is shifting. I trained for years in the art and it is not for wimps. Watch videos of Sensei Enoeda and Kanazawa to see the grace and power of shotokan.

You are incorrect - These techniques are not being performed properly to the Shotokan standard.
@capiyulo
@capiyulo 9 лет назад
Yes it is a little robotic, but you get someone with one of those punches and it is over. I used to do Shotokan a few years ago, now I do Mix Martial Arts. Karate helped me to have powerful kicks and punches. You can add kickboxing and practice sparring with a good teacher, and you will get better. Always keep your hands up to cover your face even when kicking, watch the opponents shoulders to see what they are going to do, practice blocking, and blocking plus counter a lot. when you kick end with a punch...for example do fake front kick, then roundhouse (same leg) and double punch while your opponent is still blocking your round house.

Makes me laugh when people criticise karate. Its a proven art, yes some of the drills are a bit robotic agreed, but you would never fight like that in a street situation. Free fighting sparring would be similar to most other arts. The only negative thing I would say is the rear guarding hand is karate is to low leaving right side of head vulnerable. I have done Thai boxing, boxing, kick boxing, judo and kung fu over a 20 year period on and off. All the arts have positive and negative aspects about them. You only gave to look at Lyoto Machida in UFC to see his roots are karate and he is very effective as it is such a long range fighting system. Of course he has trained other arts but in my opinion karate is a good art along with all the others. I guess its the person training them that makes the difference. Ouss

@Lorexbg
@Lorexbg 8 лет назад
+Carlo Peroni hey there mate . reason ppl make fun of karate is because the most common karate style is kyokoshin which is dulled very bad to fit sport style . they barely have guard and relay on surprise roundhouse kicks, also no hits over the chest . so the net is full of kyokoshin trainees getting they are ass kick all over the place especially by any kung fu style . thats the reason most ppl make fun of karates . but rly there are karate styles like shotokan which are very good but they are left unnoticed because are not that popular

Bruce Lee was a fighter. What he was saying is don't allow the martial art to be more art than martial. Use what's effective. As a competition fighter you miss the point of traditional martial arts. The purpose of self defense is not to fight. Fighting suggests that both parties have an equal chance. Self defense is about taking your opponent out, period!! He/she has no chance. There is no 'fight'. Most traditional karate technique are designed to finish not to bounce about on mats and score points.

Well said, sir.

"Most traditional karate technique are designed to finish not to bounce about on mats and score points." That is a 100% true statement, the very essence of the traditional way of doing karate is to kill with one blow. The combo moves you would tend to see karateka's use in free sparring and UFC is pretty much solely for competition, that is NOT how karate is to be applied in a real life violent situation. ~ Zak Burke 2nd Dan Black Belt Shotokan Karate

ahahahaah ''bounce on the mat'' hahaahaha i agree to an extend, you mean the excessive bouncing like rabbits bouncing, because in every competetive sport, the one who wins mostly is the one who is agile on his feet, yes bouncing lightly on the balls of your feet without leaving the ground, that's the correct way as for scoring that's the evolution of sport and its good, and its what brought karate into olympics. the trainning you see in the video is trainned in most karate that also does sports karate, doesn't change SHIT, the moves here we see are super robotic like the fuck this is never goind to happen in a real match fight, when stamina drops and you gasp for air, none of this shit will apply, few and very few most effective moves will be available in your game, all those fancy micro details you see the teacher shows is just to expand the game you have, try to do some of these moves in a real match that has scoring, ye you won't do shit, most of you idiots never fought a karateka that does point sparring, you won't see him coming and most of your slow as fuck moves will be seen from miles and easy to evade. so keep saying shit about martial arts that have evolved into something much more interesting than pure brutal crap. to knock someone out you don't need lots of ''badass'' looking shit, you can knock people out with just 1 kizami zuki period. now go back re educate your stupid black belts.

As a Renchi of this style but known today as Chinese Shotokan by Prof : Pierre we have incorporated many aspects of external arts. I am 42 yrs. an as a 4th dan I have had the fortune of having the hands of Dr. Moses Powell, Grandmaster : Ali Muhammad, Grandmaster / Sifu : Alam Goldberg and last but not least Prof : Ali Abdul Kareem, Master : Wong Fei . To name a few that contributed to being a bad ass but not brag because I am a family man and teach my system to my wife and step kids now. An teach Tai Chi for pocket change if you are a fan of martial arts or a practitioner yourself than you know I am the real last of the young breed of urban legends. This is true training I have over 20yrs. of commitment an this far from corny you have to respect who your working with to internalize this stuff. You have to take it easy remember your lending your body after time you can break every bone in some ones body if pissed off. An judging from the comments how many go that far is you can afford it or like me would never use it for evil so hard work and dedication. Paided and paved my way the ... the code of Bushido !!! Osi ... Keep training you never know who's patience your testing ... P.S. I'd rather see the youth or bad men earn your punishment on the mat or at the street level .... Have it you way !!!

One hard and speedy mawashi geri on the head. You can practice whatever you want (mma, Muay thai...). If you receive this directly, you're in the floor. That's the same effect with any other martial arts and rude sports. First there's the basic movements, then you apply them as hard and quick as you can. Karate is equally lethal in a high level as any other martial art. Thanks to any constructive comment.

I take away from no style of karate or for that matter any martial arts system. but i alwayz asked how difficult could it be to combine katas and combine drills from other karate forms shotokan, kempo, kyoukushin, taekwondo etc. maybe its not about how many blk belt Dans but within the Dan system to black belt from white belt. Even if it takes ten years or more to achieve a blk belt a blue belt can actually fight like a brown, or purple or red, maybe even a yellow.

+kleschtremania I am surprised to hear that! Like Angelica Romo said - most martial arts with dan system go up to 10th dan (kyu 1-10, dan 1-10). King Beef I wrote my master about Gichin Funakoshi (the founder of shotokan). He himself had the 5th dan and he also never awarded a dan higher than 5th to someone. That`s why traditional shotokan clubs do not award a dan that is higher than 5. And in traditional shotokan there are only 3 belt colors: white, brown, black. Here I have an example of a club that uses this traditional grading system: www.shotokanbasel.ch/shotokan.htm If you press on "Rang im Karate" you can see the different ranks

I apologize, usually I would just skip a bad video but I felt compelled to tell people my observations since people are confused and think these people have good form when their karate is bad and I do not want people to think what they are practicing is actually a good example of technique when it is not. For anyone who has real Shotokan Karate experience you should be horrified and embarrassed at watching this practice since their movements are about a green belt level. The biggest issues that needs to be fixed is the most fundamental - footwork - they should be sliding forward in a moon-step and not bouncing up and down which causes all the power to be lost instead of going through the techniques. Their hip movements are almost non-existent For comparison to good techniques compare to videos from: Yusuke, Hotton, Karate by Jesse (Katate Nerd), Tsutomu Ohshima, Honda (Mumon), or Hirokazu Kanazawa. Its ok if the form isn't good right now, Karate is a journey, please continue to pursue good form and train hard!

good video there are a lot of good instructors in Shotokan the best being sensei dave hazard uk....don't mix up this with mma or ufc this is tradional martial arts from the origin of karate ...and the end of the day even in a hard class you should be able to return to training 3 times a week ! ..and whoever you are and no matter how big you are .a good crack will sort the men from boys no matter wot form you learn..Shotokan has everything and you can apply it to daily life and wellbeing..peace !

+Aaron Archie Hey man, as long as your learning I wouldn't worry. I'm a volunteer Shotokan instructor; I achieved my Shodan rank a couple years ago. We have classes which range right from 4 yrs old all the way to around 12 like yourself. Just remember karate is a mastery of ones self, don't worry about the people around you. Learn what you can in that class and if you truly feel like you need more of a challenge talk to your Sensei and see what other options you have!

Well technically 14 and up is adults for us bro so dont stress it just mean they'll focus a little more on you guys and trust me itll pay off with alttile extra attention than an entire class

I've been practicing Shotokan Karate for about 4 months now and I'm still practicing it until I receive my black belt, which is going to take very long.

Would it work for someone who's 22 to start practicing ? I just want to learn self defense but I'm not sure they'll allow me to join at this age.
