We have decided to separate our breeding kunekune pigs from our kunekune meat herd. We want to be able to keep better track of how much money it is costing us to get the pigs to butcher size. Also, the younger pigs have been rooting like crazy and we are taking that problem and turning into a future pumpkin patch!

How clever to use their rooting to provide you with garden space! I’ll have to add that idea to my notebook for the future.

Caught up in their mineral ration. If they don't have enough minerals, they'll be determined to get it from the soil.

We're just getting starting with Kunes. We have two boars and plan on adding a couple of females this year. I love your fencing system and the pig-loo. I plan on doing something similar, so easy to move them.

Thanks we have tried different things and this is by far the easiest we have found to keep them moving! Thanks for following along!

Can you just have one breeding pair and keep them together year round? Then just separate the piglets you keep to grow for meat?
@KCFarms
@KCFarms Год назад
I do know people that farrow with their boar and sow together son it now possible. The only issue would be that you don’t want your female getting pregnant to early

What did it cost roughly to feed meat pigs till you butchered them...we are wanting to raise 2-4 for meat but would like to know an estimated cost to do so for peace of mind

Premier fencing sponsorship? It works guys. Lol. In the background the pig yelps from touching it. Can you imagine with a shovel doing what they did. They tore that up. You keep forgetting the apples. Just kidding. You could use anything to get there attention. When the pigs scream do you think they think your going to drop them ? I guess it ain’t natural for them.

Sponsorship would be sweet. Hahaha. Yeah they don’t like their feet off the ground

You don’t need to age pig manure do you? I was told rabbit and pig manure could be applied without aging.

I’ve heard you can and I also have heard it need to compost 4 month so not 100% sure

@@KCFarms we had our Kune Kune barrow castrated by the vet as well but we also would like to do it ourselves. How did you learn to do it? Or how do you recommend learning? Thanks. I really love your channel and your Kune’s.

We never have but I definitely need to I. The areas that they have torn up in the wet winters. I need to look into what is a good option

I thought Kunes didn't root as much?
@KCFarms
@KCFarms 2 года назад
Some root more than others but they are definitely less destructive than other breeds. We have some that don’t root and all. It seems when the ground is wet or there are a bunch of grubs in a certain area then they will root more

@@KCFarms what about getting one for suckling pig? Kune?
@natestandifer

I got 4 month olds on pasture. Kunekune/red wattle mix. How much feed should each pig be getting at 4 months. 25lb pig average Right now I’m giving 1.5lb per pig per day.
@KCFarms
@KCFarms 2 года назад
Hmm not 100% sure. We give two cups in the morning and 2 in the afternoon at feeding for ours. Best thing to do is just keep and eye on your pig and if they start to look overweight cut it back.
