it felt embarrassing when the villains took a bow to kung fu panda. With such a misinterpretation of the characters, I would get an F in literature and linguistics
I haven’t seen the film but I need to know, was there an epic shot at least? Like in the first film you had tai Lung’s escape, the second film having the tower collapse, and the third having the beginning Kai and Oogway fight. Was there an outstanding moment in this one?
Hey man! Just a small tip when you screen record. Change your monitor to 24p so you don’t get that frame stutter. It’ll help clean up your videos. Otherwise very well done!!!
The only thing i dislike about the movie is why Zhen gets to be the New Dragon Warrior. I just don’t really see why she’s THAT worthy. I understand that she learned her lesson... but????? I just can’t put it into words- And her story was kinda predictable once it was revealed that The Chameleon helped her imo, It’s just the basic _Betrays Villain -> Helps Defeat Villain -> Becomes Hero._ I don’t exactly HATE her, but i don’t LIKE her either. But it’s not a bad movie imo. Sorry if my English is broken btw
Honestly the better path they could’ve done with po choosing a new dragon warrior, they should’ve had tai lung be the new one. That way he could have a redemption arc
Tai Lung can’t be the Dragon Warrior, he is literally not meant to be, but at least him accepting that after a long adventure would have been something interesting.
I still enjoyed it. Wasn’t as good as the first three by far but was overall enjoyable being a fan of the franchise since the first. The only thing I hated about it though was no lines for shen and Kai along with the fact that Zhen was kind of wasted potential. They could have given her more time to prove to po that she was could be the dragon warrior. Would have made for a good 5th movie if that happens. I believe that the tai lung redemption arc was him realizing oogway was right about the evil in him. The first movie showed what evil can do to someone once kind and calm. And in this one he seems more at peace with himself. Potentially spending time in the spirit realm to think about how his rampages end in destruction. And how that proved he wasn’t the dragon warrior.
If this is the start of the last three movies of the six films they had planned, then it is the weakest of weak farts to set up another trilogy. This film was just to "re-hype" the franchise, and you can't convince me otherwise. Knowing that it was extremely depressing coming out of the theater because it was pretty much just an hour and 45 minutes of a nothingburger. I'm kind of disappointed, to say the least. To be honest, after watching the masterpiece that was Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, I was kind of expecting more from one of Dreamworks bigger IPs. I mean, not only was the animation change fucking fantastic (it gave major anime vibes), but the story was a lot deeper for a children's movie (accepting death), but it also knew not to completely downplay it. The Wolf originally appears as a bounty hunter coming for Puss, but the film later reveals him to be the personification of Death, which was an insane fucking twist. Puss spends basically the entire film running away from him, but he realizes that death is always going to keep coming unless he steps up and fights for the only life he has left. The movie just knew what it wanted to do and followed it, and unfortunately, KFP4 suffers from the execution of said main plot. They had a really good setup, music, and cast, the whole "schebang" but did nothing with it. Not to mention, I also read the budget was a lot lower than the previous films, which was also severely disappointing. It felt like something that would've been put on a streaming service. If we're doing this "5th and 6th" film, then we really need to step up the quality and storytelling because this was by far the most unmemorable film of them all (topping KFP3). It looks like the only other Dreamworks movie I'm thus far looking forward to is Wild Robot. At least they're taking the Puss and Boots animation approach, not to mention the film's trailer alone gave me Iron Giant vibes. I know full well that this film will have me ending up in tears during and after the movie ends.
Honestly it should’ve been about Po and the furious 5 trying to team up with Tai Lung to get the Staff of wisdom back from Chameleon, and in the final fight Po and Tai Lung fight along side each other with Shifu to fight the Chameleon, also it would’ve been cool to see her turn into Oogway in the final fight
Am I seriously the only one who genuinely prefers Kung Fu Panda 3 to 2? My rankings go. 1 3 2. I also believe their isn't a bad Kung Fu Panda film. Though Kfp 4 I have yet to see.
Well here is my review SPOILERS: 1) they could have cut both dads from the movie and it would really mattered (not saying they should but I thought the 2nd plot would have mattered) 2) they made the whole movie trailer centered on the villains, (we know and love) coming back just so they can be defeated in 1 move.... maybe a couple for tai lung... 3) why is well, the fox...Wolf? Theaf the dragon warriors... Well she stole, then gave back, felt sorry... thats it... nothing else...(even the crock bandits.. from "KFP" Legends of awesomeness.. did that (even though thats not canon to the movie but....) and they are not the dragon warriors...) HOW TO FIX: Ok i think they could have Maybe fixed by using this as a plot... 1)She could raid the dragon warrior, using her army, 2)take his staff and bringing tai lung back... 3)then tai, beats her army (like in "KFP 1" and the prison escape) 4) she makes her army chase him... bringing Tai and po fighting her..... and etc.... 5) po and tai loosing, they retreat and tai Gets captured... making po run into the Fox, Wolf? 6) making her the only one that helps him and he trains her for a little because he trusts her and her Kung fu is sloppy...(in my version of the plot anyways) 7) and her and po fighting the Camilon and winning... gaining the trust of Tai Lung as he admits Po being the true dragon warrior and The fox? WOLF? being his successor....
this movie is so rush yet add so many unnecessary scene like 3 rabbits and thief. Like, sure, they have some contribute but they didnt really deserve this much screen time. the animation also feel, not polish enough. the whole movie is like they didn't polish enough, half bake you can say. definitely made to be cash grab with tai lung.
For the Tai Lung interacting with Shifu thing, I believe it was originally going to happen, but it got axed. This was in a recent Q and A with one of the directors on the KFP discord/reddit
@@rpg_neko1815yep, it was. Every good story beat and plot line that would’ve kept this film in line with what came before was completely shunned. To make matters worse, the co-director was belittled for her ideas that would’ve made this film faithful
Even better if Tai Lung was actually part of the plot, they had the perfect opportunity to explore more of his character in this movie, but they didn't take the bait. Like, the movie should have been about him,his chance for redemption, and make amends with Shifu. This movie could have been so much better if they went with this route,I actually wanted Po to help Tai Lung,to help him learn that he didn't need the scroll to feel special,he was already special, that he didn't needed the scroll to make Shifu proud,Shifu has always been proud of him (he just failed to said it sooner),Po could have helped him see that just because he wasn't the Dragon Warrior it doesn't mean that he is worthless and his life ended there. Honestly, what a waste of opportunity to make Tai Lung learn the lesson Shifu failed to teach him.
The Co-Director of the movie, Stephanie Ma Stine, had some amazing ideas. She said she wanted to make the movie truer to the first 2, and Jack Black himself said she brought actual depth and heart. Po would've had a vision of Shifu being kidnapped by the Chameleon, prompting Po to go on a quest to stop her. Despite his best efforts, she would've succeeded. This would've raised the stakes, displayed the Chameleon as a real threat, and allowed Shifu to be there at the end to say goodbye to Tai Lung. Stephanie also wanted Zhen's redemption to be more fleshed out, ensured it to have both dialogue and action, and for it to actually happen onscreen, much to the chagrin of the writers who just wanted her to swoop in out of nowhere to fight the Chameleon before quickly disappearing again. Meanwhile, the director of the movie, Mike Mitchell, wanted the movie to be more laughs and joke-y. He wanted Chameleon and Zhen to have ZERO backstory whatsoever, and by the time the crew convinced him that, you know, giving the main villain a backstory is kind of important, they were too late to do anything more than add in those few lines. Many crewmembers came up with ideas for Zhen's backstory, but they were all discarded. The film was made so short because they believed children couldn't watch a longer film, and also because they'd get more money. Guess which of these two guys they decided to give full creative freedom.
If that’s all true I wouldn’t be surprised, this is a very DreamWorks way of thinking when making a lot of their movies. Also the fact this movie exists in the first place is a clear indication they were looking to make some money on it, and a lot of the movie is missing many key components from the original trilogy. Let’s hope they clean up their act and the next potential movie is actually decent at least.
Thank you for that information. It's a shame we got Mike in charge instead. If they make another Stephenie and Jennifer Yuh Nelson would make a great duo
@@Endore5000 This information is actually true. A lot of this information can be found from a Q&A from Stine in the Kung Fu Panda subreddit/discord server.
Yep Pretty accurate While he was blinded by his desire to be the dragon warrior Fans here are blinded by nostalgia and very very high expectations and imaginary promises
I read a comment on another video saying that Zhen should've been trashed, instead, Kung-Fu Panda 4 should've been about Po teaching Tai Lung to grow and to learn to accept why he wasn't meant to be the dragon warrior. They defeat the Chameleon together at the end. Tai Lung reconciles with Shifu, flushing out the father-son relationship, making for a heart-warming scene. Tai Lung's a fan-favorite villain, and he never really got a redemption. This movie would've been a perfect chance to do so, sadly we got this version instead :(

This one was very mixed though. It felt like this movie wasn’t needed, he learnt everything as a dragon warrior.
@@muguiwaranoboy2542 i mean Most of the Movies was to teach po about being the dragon warrior, sure you could have passed it down but like, is it really necessary for you to complete the whole trilogy when it’s already completed?
They could have made a good new trilogy if they wanted to though. The "Master" concept, the family concept, the love, a new disastrous army could have swept down on them, dealing with the loss of characters we've come to know, Po learning about his legacy and how his mantle will carry on, pulling out a Rocky/Creed move and having the child of a villain come for them, or Po teaching someone else the lessons he learned about being worthy, and they could even pull a HTTYD and have the Valley people move on. There were plenty of ideas they could have adopted for this new trilogy that would have made sense for a slightly more mature Po. Instead it feels like we stepped backwards...? He goes from the Dragon Warrior in KFP 3 who has found his family, people, and destiny to, well, I don't even know.
Dreamworks is so up and down that it's actually wild. They released The Last Wish, honestly an arguable contender for top ten animated movies of all time and one of the best animated sequels ever, and then that mermaid movie, Megamind 2, and Kung Fu Panda 4. So inconsistent.
DreamWorks is a huge company with different divisions and studios much like other parent companies. Its unreasonable to expect consistency when every movie usually has different directors and writers. I heard megamind 2 wasn't even made by any of their main animation studios 😂

Remember when in kung fu panda 3 when oogway DIDNT give Po the staff of peace!!, WHOO, THANK GOD... im so fucking glad they made that shit up, for the movie!!
I think what pisses me off the most is that they literally had no buildup for Zhen, she didn't even have a special reason to be the dragon warrior, Po picked her just because, meanwhile Tai Lung is a much better option, it would have been a great conclusion to his character if he was the dragon warrior, but he just ends up being a fodder in the movie Also because Chameleon is literally a nobody, Tai Lung was related to Shifu's past, Shen was related to Po's, Kai was related to Oogway's, who tf even is Chameleon?
Tai Lung being the dragon warrior wouldn’t make sense since we know he could never be worthy, the first movie showed every reason why he isn’t worthy. But yeah Chameleon is a big ol nobody.
@@Endore5000This movie had the potential to start a redemption trilogy for Tai Lung and conclude with him actually overcoming his previous traits and becoming the new Dragon Warrior
Oh yeah, she has so minimal character development is criminal and everything that happens between Po and Zhen is not earned. Especially, when they dared to reuse the scene from Gongmen prison between Tigress and Po. I was annoyed by that. I think the characters got such pathetic character development because of the director's obsession with shoving comedy in almost every scene that is not focused on combat. We don't see how characters think or feel we just see them throwing one-liners for a comedy's sake. It was extremely noticeable in the movie. So when there was supposed to be a serious scene between the characters, we didn't care. It wasn't earned. I disagree with the notion Tai Lung should become a dragon warrior. There was a good reason why he wasn't given that title as his heart was corrupted. It'd be more satisfying if he was given that option, he would refuse. It is more fitting if Tigress became a dragon warrior as she had the skills of one but she lacked the heart of one. Through relation with Po, she could reach the point when she would have been a fierce warrior but also empathic to the weak and people in need like Po.
I loved all the previous movies especially and the 3rd one was a perfect way to end and once I saw the 4th one I new It was a cash grab and was going to be bad
People consider it the weakest of the trilogy. But it's still a great movie and ends Po's journey in a really satisfying way. (my personal favorite as well)
Yup, it was showing signs the writers didn't know where to go already in most aspects, the 4th is basically the 3rd without its qualities and double down on its flaws. An usual sign of an IP's downfall. I for one concider the 2nd to be the last one and that's it.
that’s because it was (kind of?) made with it. they had a hard time trying to figure how the chameleon would shape shift so they used ai to assist them to give ideas. The animators animated those ideas.
Man it sucks because I honestly thought the fight scenes were cool and the Chameleon was very well animated. The plot literally could've just been "Chameleon wants to kill the Dragon Warrior and take the title for their own, and to do that, I must absorb the chi of some of the best fighters." So Chameleon kidnaps Shifu, the Furious Five, and brings Tai Lung from the dead to absorb his power because "Shifu taught you well, but he didn't teach you everything." This would make Po going alone understandable, he has a goal to get to with actual stake. Then here's the bit I believe should've happened. Po v Chameleon is one of the first fights! But this time, Chameleon wins, with Po having to retreat and go into hiding, thus bringing Chameleon a step closer to taking the Dragon Warrior name and/or crippling his reputation. This is when Po goes to assemble a squad to help him. Meanwhile, Chameleon would get some moments torturing their captors, with Tai Lung stirring up a bit of conflict because of the first movie, trying to defeat the 5, but clearly because of their drained chi, it ends in a draw. Then during the half point, the Chameleon would start torturing the 5 and Shifu for fun, with Tai Lung watching from the side lines. He starts to reflect on his actions, remembering the day he fought Shifu back at the Jade Temple with Shifu admitting his pride got in the way and that he's sorry. After the torture is over, it's be TIGRESS who approaches Tai Lung first, still very wary because he's Tai Lung, but approaching because she never saw Tai Lung so down before. Tai Lung and Tigress would have a bit with each other because both were trained to the point of strain by Shifu. Back on Po, he gets to the Chameleon again, and with his new squad, the issue being the squad don't believe they can stand up to the Chameleon, whose very image brings fear to the village. Chameleon wins again, 2-0. Po then starts helping the new recruits in saying that "you don't need to know what I know. You just gotta do what you already do. What makes you special." Yeah, it's sorta a repeat of 1 and 3, but I'll take it as him passing his wisdom and knowledge to the new ones. However this time, Po isn't taking this sitting down. Zhen confronts Po, trying to ask why Po is sounding less confident. Po then lets out that it's because he's afraid he'll let all of China down, because of his high status as the Dragon Warrior. Even thought Po has fought through his imposter syndrome, that was when the world, even himself, doubted he will be the Dragon Warrior. But now that all of China knows his title because of his feats, he's scared he'll let all of China down if he can't defeat Chameleon. Zhen reassures Po that failure shouldn't get in his way, as Zhen has looked up to Po as a figure since the news came out that Po saved China from Lord Shen. Comes the final confrontation, Po reaches to Chameleon once more, this time not going to run away if he falls now. Po's new recruits go in to help Po out, but this time using their own unique abilities to fight the Chameleon. The Chameleon, however, overpowers them using Tai Lung's powers. The Chameleon then threatens the FF and Shifu's lives if Po takes another move. Tai Lung however would not let this stand, threatening the life of his tragic father figure who felt nothing but regret for Tai Lung. In a fit of vengeance, Tai Lung managed to break through his shackles and attack Chameleon away from Shifu and FF. Po and Tai Lung then start performing a tag team with the new recruits to take down the Chameleon, who starts losing their grip on the powers they stole, entering back to their rightful owners one by one. Po manages to grab the hand of Chameleon and ready the Wuxing Finger Hold, but the Chameleons tries to strike Po before he can flex the pinkie by opening a spirit portal to trap Po in there for all eternity without his Jade Staff Oogway gave. Tai Lung saves Po, with him delivering the final blow and line to the Chameleon: "You'll never be the Dragon Warrior, for you aren't what the big fat panda is.", kicking Chameleon into the spirit portal, essentially killing Chameleon in the mortal world. Tai Lung reconciles his relationship with his father figure Shifu, and he pays his respects to Po, calling him the true Dragon Warrior, for even if Po were to fall, there would be none as great as Po for decades to centuries. Tai Lung redeemed, he returns to the Spirit Realm. Right before the movie hits the credits, the Chameleon would be stuck in the Spirit Realm, with Tai Lung approaching them. The Chameleon fearfully asks what he's gonna do to them. Tai Lung just cracks his knuckles, saying he is gonna have a little "fun", delivering a brutal punch punch toward the screen as he roars, showing he still is fighting with his violent nature, but this time using said violent leopard style to punish evil spirits, effectively making him akin to Lei Gong, the punisher of Chinese myth. That's whole essay is how I'd write it. Will admit idk what to do with Po without making him look like a plot device, but I guess what are you gonna do when Po's arc is complete. I wanted 4 to be somewhat more focused on Tai Lung after all.
I really said, “That’s it?” out loud when I saw the credits. A bit disappointing we waited this long and didn’t get much new. Either way I don’t mind it’s not a terrible film but it’s certainly not the best.

If animation in Kung Fu Panda 4 had good animation regarding explanation about it, it could be like Puss in Boots : The last wish. Specifically with the cinematic shots, effects (welp this film already has effects but I mean visuals to match the mood of the scenes), colours, buildup, anything that makes sense and not anything quote-unquote, "memetic" or "craziness".

You can't just put that art style in some random movie. It needs to FIT! _KFP_ doesn't need character design improvements or to look like a painting. It'll just look like a _Puss in Boots 2_ knock-off.

The second that I knew that a fourth entry was coming along, I knew for an absolute FACT that it would be a disappointment. I was three to four years old when I first laid eyes on Kung Fu Panda and that was 2008-2009, and I fell in love with the movie. The second installment came around, and I was mind-blown beyond belief. Three came along, and I was more than satisfied how the trilogy ended. 3 is usually just a lucky number with movie series', with three being where it all adds up together to make for a grand conclusion to the saga... Whereas the number 4 is literally an unlucky number in literature. Toy Story 4 made no sense in its existence. And Kung Fu Panda 4's existence is completely unwarranted, as it's just a sour way to end off a quadrilogy that we didn't need. This isn't to say that a quadrilogy will ALWAYS be inferior to a trilogy, but it's not normally done well and this movie proves that. Now in a year, I hope we all collectively forget that Kung Fu Panda 4 ever existed.
Hear hear, another factor is that if a fourth movie to a franchise comes out like 10 years after the trilogy, you know it’s mostly a cash grab unfortunately.
And that is why you are disappointed Because you didn't take off those nostalgia goggles and went in and made up your mind before even watching the movie This isn't a quadriogy, it's the start of another trilogy
Hey, someone else who enjoys and accepts the third film. I thought Kai was a great villain, I loved the aesthetic, and the pandas are always great. (People say there were two many jokes but I genuinely found that point when Po had lost the village to Kai really depressing. Also, Tigress hopeless and outmatched? Ouch).
I thought of a better movie idea much better the day before it came out Po is in his prime we see a slightly older po taking missions building the legend of the Dragon Warrior who is the strongest in all of of china The villain is an ancient enemy who is back now And other lands are introduced specifically this movie is focused on a rival Of the "Dragon warrior" Its the "Pheonix Lord" he once lost and Died to the dragon warrior but now he is back for vengeance and Po is Cocky that he is the strongest in world Despite never face the world Its a humbling experience after the Pheonix Lord Completely defeats Po Leaving Po with a choice Surrender or war Putting Po into a position of a king an experience he has never been before Po will be put into a larger picture A massive ancient battle between beings of power for control of the world The dragon warrior The pheonix lord The Griffon champion And this will slowly be revealed between 3 Movies And Po's understanding of the true power of the dragon warrior (Maybe its revealed Oogway was the previous dragon warrior and once po was the next chosen he was going to die for there can't be 2 dragon warriors) And in the same way Oogway Chose someone Po will too In the final movie However Oogway said he has never tried to go back so that just make this plot not work
The chameleon had so many potentials to show and it was great but underdeveloped. There should have been a legendary combat between her and Po, I was waiting for it the entire movie.

honestly I can kinda see the movie being about accepting to leave the people from the past IN the past or overall move on from the past. Well, it's almost the same as 2, but here it's more about people; I can see it as Zhen moving on from The Chameleon and Po moving on from Tai Lung, Shen and Kai... well that could have been fleshed out more in the movie but yeah
It's the fourth movie, of course it's not that great Also, Shrek is not a quadroligy, it's a trilogy, the third movie is just called Shrek Fourever After for no reason except the pun and a reference to the cancelled movie, Shrek the Third, which doesn't exist.
Oh yeah, I forgot Shrek the Third was cancelled. Thank goodness, I must have gotten it confused with some other terrible movie and convinced myself it existed. Thanks for reminding me.
One thing i do love is how Po is way better at kung fu but yet still retains his friendly unserious demeanor at the same time- compared to other movies where hes only serious in serious situations here he can toggle from serious to unserious seamlessly (at least from what i saw on the trailer)
There was a interview held with the animators, they actualy discussed and said they DID use ai for the chamelon character shapeshift animations because it made it feel more "uncomfortable"
I haven’t seen this movie, but I feel like the chameleon could’ve been written as an adversary. He’s gone against once in the beginning of the movie and loses the staff. and then later takes it on again along with the new student the supossive new dragon warrior that already seems like a plot point, that makes sense since he’s trying to get the new Dragon warrior.
The only thing I liked about this movie was the chase in that big Chinese city/town, I was hoping to see more of it than just a few chase scenes, food and ships😅😅
I don't get this need for the fan service like here by bringing back the villains when mostly only older fans would appreciate and the entirety of the movie's purpose for existence is " cartoon movie for kids with funny haha jokes = moneys"
