There are too many people calling BS on arts but the truth is, every art has something good to it, and it's honestly much more rewarding looking at each art with no bias and just understanding why it is the way it is. I'm learning a ton doing these and I'm enjoying them very much.

You forgot to mention that Xingyiquan is based on the spear. A person named Ji Jike was a retired military personnel who wanted to covert his spear techniques into fists, so he came up with Xinyi Liuhe, and then passed down the art to Dai Longbang. Xingyiquan was a modification of Dai family Xinyi Liuhe created by Li Luoneng.

Well done. As a classical acupuncturist and someone who's studied Xingyiquan I think you and Shifu Bluestein did an especially good job describing the Five Phases (Wuxing). Usually folks mangle that concept. I'm also stunned that you went so far as to highlight connections to the stems and branches. Wow. One thing I would like to note is that not all Xingyi systems distinguish the 12 animals. There are multiple styles of Xingyiquan just like there are multiple styles of Karate.

That is Yi quan, an art which was created in the early 20th century by a XingYi master who fell in love in boxing. He took the meditation and chi kung from Xingyi into western boxing.

Kyokushin is a great style - did it before getting severe asthma. What helped me covercome it was actually Xingyiquan. But anyway: Kyokushin directly and through Yiquan was much influenced in their fighting style (fighting stance,kamae) by Xingyiquan - that I've been practicing for more than two decades now. All the best and respect to all Kyokushin practitioners!

nice vid, I my primary martial art is Wing Chun because I learned it by studying and understanding how to make it practical, I've since branch out studying boxing, and dabling in all the enternal martial arts being taji quan, buagua, and of course Xingyi quan. I found xingyi interesting and I'm still learning it. I have yet to understand it enough to be practical in hand to hand combat, but it has some interesting concepts. All though I must say learning the Xingyi Forms along actually benefited my Wing Chun, because while I was naturally rooting myself with every attack, Xingyi made it more obvious and allowed me to prefect it even more.

Another great history video! These are always really well put together and I will impatiently await part 2! A quick note though; the statement about farmers being physically fit already as an explanation of the arts training was a bit of a stretch for me. Usually the poor classes are malnourished and therefore weakened by sickness, etc. In there respective time. I don't know the history but it would make sense to me if they taught it quickly because they are teaching farmers. But I'll admit I don't know the history. P.S. sorry to nitpick xD
@ArtofOneDojo
@ArtofOneDojo 4 года назад
It's in interesting point but most people who studied Chinese Martial arts were poor and lower on the social status. In Japan, studying the martial arts were a luxury for the upper class, but in China it was very different. So farmers were definitely martial artists, but of course those that were strong enough to do it. Hopefully you enjoy part 2!
@ArtofOneDojo
@ArtofOneDojo 4 года назад
@Fight Fly Crow Well, I didn't say it was ONLY the farmers that learned it, but we covered this in "What is Kung Fu?" but in China people typically found training either in temples, villages, and the military. So yes soldiers trained but it wasn't restricted to just them, and the majority of Kung Fu practitioners were civilians. Unlike in Japan, training in the martial arts was a privilege. You didn't find many lower class civilians training in the early days.
@ArtofOneDojo
@ArtofOneDojo 4 года назад
@Fight Fly Crow Plus keep in mind there are hundreds of different variations and styles, so it doesn't mean the military trained in the same thing as everyone else. It also depended largely on the region.

@@ArtofOneDojosan thank you, many times when I comment on a channels page it seems that as long as a channel has under 300k subscribers, then I am more likely to get a response back from someone whether it is the people of the channel themselves, or someone else commenting. The only other time that I can think of when that did not happen is from Adam Salah Vlogs when I commented on one of his videos and it was not a message from him, but rather it was a woman that would not mind getting into a relationship with him all because of sleeping habits since it was the video about him watching himself sleep to see what he does.

Kyokushin is a very tough style. If you want to be able to tank any punch or kick to your body then go with that. If you're not into that then go for shotokon. Watch sensei Dan's videos on kyokushin history to determine your answer.

Make sure to prioritize your goals and intentions, but I would also suggest visiting both schools and seeing if that can help you make up your mind more easily. As much as I'd love learning this style, there's no schools in my immediate area. Of course, Chinatown in NYC likely has a school. But I live in NJ, & just to get into NYC costs almost $20.00 each time. Then there's the issue of either shelling out money for private parking, or if you're spending almost an hour looking for an empty spot on the streets. I'd spend almost as much money getting to the school as to the tuition itself.

CARLO BELLA The point is the guys this man is fighting aren't masters at all. Just see the way they use guards : they only raise their arm in a way they watched in books or videos but in case of Tai Chi Chuan for exemple, you don't put your hands in that soft manner. The guard would be more like karate or wing chun form. And for win Chun, those so called master don't get any balance but put their entire body back when in guard. There is no honor in beating such impostors even for a average mma fighter.

The Xing Yi Quan in this video is Hebei Xing Yi Quan. Do some research and show some true Xing Yi from the Shanxi province. Mainly Che or Song families. It's pretty much the most pure Xing Yi and is very similar to the Dai family. Good video though!

Yuei Fei was probably given credit for Xing I because he fought the ancestors of the Qing. Perhaps Xing I's creator wanted to draw parallels between that struggle and the anti Qing struggle?

I love Kung fu I love all martial arts in general except mma/bjj but that’s mainly because of the ignorance that comes with it also just the movements alone i don’t like it they train you for one purpose to fight but martial arts is a lot more than that it’s spiritual and mental as we as physical great video as always 👍🙏🏾

Not bad. However, Daoist concepts were appended to martial arts by philosophers and mystics after the fact. Though there were some notable exceptions (Sun Lu Tang for one) most martial artists in China were not interested in philosophy at all. They just wanted to win fights.

Do you know or have you heard about what is going on with the videos on RU-vid on January 1, 2020, something to do with COPPA, I don’t understand very much but it doesn’t sound good, I’ve seen more people talking about it as it gets closer, do you think this would affect you in anyway or would it affect others with martial arts or self defense videos
@ArtofOneDojo
@ArtofOneDojo 4 года назад
Yes, and it's something we're watching very closely. It's already in affect and basically the law says it's illegal to collect data (search data, browsing history, targeted ads) on children online. As a result RU-vid is heavily enforcing a new rule in which you have to label your videos as "FOR KIDS" or "NOT FOR KIDS". They don't mean family friendly, they mean whether your target market is children. We don't believe we fall into that because our content, even though it is children friendly, it not written nor targeted at children and most of our viewers are in the 18-54 range. We are watching this very closely because this DOES affect some other channel we work on.
