Oh wow, didn't you have to contend with a lot of mosquitoes? Kungsleden is also in our hearts and we have to return, not least of all because I injured myself and was evacuated just before reaching Jäkkvik. It was the best of times, and the worst of times.
@@OvertheHills There were millions mosquitoes 🤦🏻♂️, especially in the area of Aktse and till Kvikkjokk. The saddest thing is that I didn’t have a mosquito net, only sprays 😄
@@AdventureswithOrangeCup Yowza! I figured that would be the case. I was worried our start date would be too early but the mosquitoes were spotty only. We had head nets but I never used mine. I used bug spray once only.
Aw I just read your bio. How cute that you met on the pct so many years ago 🥹 I hiked the pct in 2019 and now moving to Hemavan 🏔️ maybe our paths will cross one day. Happy trails 🫶🏼✨
Hemavan!!! The population is only around 300. Why there? We're tentatively planing to go to Hemavan in 2024 so there's a high likelihood that our paths will cross. We only made it as far south as Vuonatjviken this year, where I gratefully accepted an impromptu offer of evacuation because I'd injured myself. I've been carrying an InReach starting with the PCT in 2018 and have never used the SOS feature, but twice this summer I contemplated having to call for a rescue, first in Montenegro and then in Sweden. Both times it turned out not to be necessary as I was able to self-evacuate, albeit not without help.
I was just looking at your videos. Coincidentally, we're currently listening to Iz and Patsy's roasting chestnuts. Too funny! We tried to join a Sierra Club hike the last time we were in HI to climb one of the spines on Oahu and they made it clear we weren't welcome so we did our own thing. Oh, and I have a Ph.D. in biochemistry :-)
I am enjoying your content. Keep up the good work! Mina videor om Kungsleden är på RU-vid nu. Den var en mycket spännande upplevelse! Kings Trail / Kungsleden ru-vid.com/group/PLZagpVwkLMBSvrJq1AHrRoA5HQqrE92vy
Stay active and stay healthy. Just two weeks after returning home I was enjoying some Ben & Jerry's Chunky Monkey ice cream when I bit something really hard. It turned out that I'd fractured one of my molars so now I'm waiting for the permanent crown. We're slowly, and inevitably, falling apart as we age. At least money is not a constraint for us. Backpacking is relatively inexpensive and it's what we really enjoy.
