He is a legend. Very talented songwriter. He created many songs with simple guitar chords & riffs but with super catchy melodies and great vocals singing.
I don't.. If he were still alive he'd be half as famous.. He was a product of his era. Nothing more nothing less. Dying young always looks attractive and mystical. Just like Janis Jim Morris on hendrix. Oh and don't forget Michael hutchence.
my coworker grew up with Kurt in Aberdeen. He said Kurt was always the quiet kid who didn't say much. He seems like such a character, its almost surreal. RIP brother
I was 13 when they blew up. Getting to see the band's music videos or in interviews on TV was exciting. It was usually on MTV or The Box for me in Indiana or in magazines. I discovered Nirvana when most of the world did, in 1991 when Nevermind came out. The very first thing that hit me when hearing their music was Dave's heavy hitting drums then Kurt's heavy guitar and howling voice. After I heard the first few radio songs I purchased Nevermind and when I was done listening I was hooked. I went out to a couple local record shops and discovered they had a previous album Bleach. After hearing bleach I then picked up every bootleg, single and import I could find on cassette, vinyl and CD. I bought every album they released after Nevermind and bought stuff like the 24k CD's. Growing up as a teen in that era was amazing but the sad day in 1994 was a day I will never forget. Working on my very first car in my dad's garage blaring X103 when the music suddenly cut and the DJ came on saying there had been a body found in the green room of Kurt Cobain's home in Washington. After being glued to the radio and them confirming it was indeed Cobain I sat down on the concrete floor next to my car and wept. That's the day music died for many of us rebellious, angry teens of the early to mid 90's.
When _Nevermind_ came out I was still 14 years old. Went to see them live when I was 16. And remember learning about Kurt Cobain's death about a month after my 17th birthday on April 5th, 1993 while traveling on a train towards Rome (ITALY), the same city where he had just been hospitalized from March 2nd to March 9th of that same year. It all became surreal. The face of the last music and generation revolution in history - _Grunge_ - had left us just like all those great legends before him.
Yeah, I was about the same age. When I was young, black and white films seemed to be from a very very long time ago, I'm wondering if kids now have the same feeling about these VHS tapes. For us our reference was before and after electricity, I'm guessing for them now it's probably before and after Internet, right? It is true that before Internet everything was different... But I feel like not that long ago I was in a rental store trying to find a good NES game to rent while listening at my cassette of MC Hammer with my yellow walkman! lol
0:45 ya see that kids? That right there is the sound of Kurt pretending the answer to that question was a simple ‘yes’ to get the interviewer to stop talking about it.
Man, I was the biggest Nirvana fan throughout high school. Learned their songs on guitar, watched every interview, read every book...I idolized Kurt. I fell out such extreme love with 'em quite a while back (still really enjoy all their albums though) and it's such a trip coming back to interviews and stuff as a 26 year old man now. Kurt was always this cool older person to me, and now seeing him my age or younger in interviews...it's a trip.
dude, same for me, i was just thinking the same i was all about nirvana in my teen years and kurt always seemed like the older guy i look up to and now im older wtf so weird he still looks older to me
@@DigitalBath306 you can measure age with how many rotations around the sun you have had, or by the experiences life has given you. the latter is much more accurate
Oh & yrs earlier 4 sure. I was class of '93 & they were around a decade older. I completely understand the mood a bit too well. These video clips were great! So damn funny & So HIM!
there was pain in Kurt's life.. but his talent was undeniable.. in particular his folky acoustic music was soulful & can b appreciated for generations to come..
He was talented and he was troubled. He is an icon because both parts came out in his music. In other words be yourself not what others want you to be.
Thinking of you Kurt. You were taken from us too soon but just like everyone who left an impact while here you are remembered and celebrated every day by someone :)
@@segredosdotiosam9989 Depression and addiction are diseases medically, so yeah, suicide is the ultimate symptom of these cumulative issues. He was taken by depression and addiction. He DIED by suicide. If you want to be technical..
@@segredosdotiosam9989 We equally use taken in the medical profession. Not trying to argue! People are TAKEN by depression/addiction/any other mental health illness.... (just like the cancer you mentioned!) and DIE by suicide. "Peace, love and empathy"-- Kurt Cobain
I always loved the way he basically had no filter on his thoughts. Straight from his brain to his lips, not caring what anyone thought about him or his viewpoints. Wonder what today's "cancel culture" would have thought of him?
I'm always reminded how Trump fans pushed out the idea that Cobain somehow predicted DJTs arrival, even though in reality he couldn't stand politicians lol Not to mention that you probably would've called him a PC warrior back in the day for hating jocks/meatheads and giving finger to people booing female bands/homophobes. But yes - please tell me more about cancel culture and Kurt being against it.
@@IHeartNoise because he molested a disabled girl in high school (read heavier than heaven)... The cancel mob would've sacrificed him over that in a heartbeat.
And there’s so precious little of him on film and video. Jimi Hendrix and he are the most tragic rock deaths by far in my opinion. I luckily was not alive for Jimi’s death. It doesn’t haunt me as much as Kurts which I remember quite well. It’s as if his funeral is still going on.
Everyone who thinks of Kurt as a depressed, whinging, whiney, mopey guy needs to see videos like this. Don't judge a character by the media and word of mouth. Learn about that person enough to build your own opinion
A lot of the edgelord persona was partially a pose of the times and partially all the pain coming out of him. He was in large psychological pain during a lot of his life. Depression and all of that. I can relate to it all, unfortunately.
@@djcease1996 That is not true even though I'm sure there are a lot of depressed people out there barely scraping by who haven't been diagnosed and all people experience sadness. But real depression is a darkness and pain I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy and fortunately only a small percentage of people get it bad.
punk is and always has meant freedom and loss of suffering to me too. a state of mind a state of being not a style of clothes or anything superficial. i wouldn't have survived highschool without it. i think today's kids need it now more than we did, this world keeps getting shittier and punk is a mood that will get you through it!
I totally feel that, I'm a sophomore in high school right now and I idolize the grunge lifestyle and Kurt. The way that not only the music, but the meaning behind it makes me feel is incredible. Its sad that not many other kids share the same love for grunge that I do. Lol, most of them have red hot chili peppers and nirvana t-shirts and bitches can't name a single song other than smells like teen spirit💀
*Lighting a joint with his broken arm* "Oh I'm supposed to be hurt" LMFAO 🤣, it's a shame I never got to witness his era but from what I can tell from his music and aura he truly was something special
That guy used dry humor very well. In all of these clips, this is comedic stuff. If you think its moody downer, you are very bland and cannot comprehend the sphere Cobain was working within. Lets just say he is funny as hell and you dont get it.
Say what you will but he'll forever be etched in rock music, a billionaire and had a pretty sweet deal going on until love killed him. I don't mean love the feeling, I mean Courtney's bitchass.
@@donnajackson2907 exactly. In fact, according to his closest friends and people he was creating Art with, he was doing very well mentally and physically, trying to stay sober and be present for his daughter and Art. There are many direct quotes supporting this.
He was not in a dark mood before he was murdered. He was sick of CL & wanting a divorce so trying to run from her. But he had plans for the future! He was too good for this world! But I know he is loved & missed by many! He was hilarious though!
i’m in my “nirvana phase” as i’d like to call it right now. i have a shirt, listened and tried to memorize every song they had, etc. etc. and i’ve been idolizing kurt and stuff. honestly, these guys make me happier than a LOT of things- i love them and i always will (even if i forget it somehow)
@@noname420 got over the phase but i do not look back on the past with disgust, but rather fondness and appreciation. got me into the music i’m into now :)
I just want to point out that the quote " it's better to burn out, than to fade away" was not Kurt's. It was Neil Young's live rust from 1976! I know, cause I was there.
My favorite interaction of his was when nadwaur asked him about the pa system in some south American country. He responded with "idk I was shooting coke with alice and chains all night"
I miss Kurt I didn't like him at first but the more I watched him and nirvana and listened to their music my thoughts changed because a lot of what be wrote reminds me so much of today. RIP
Im 42 and back in the day kurt was the light of rock n roll, he absorbed the whole scene world wide. When he died it was like an eternal sunset for various years.
