this was our only public performance i sound very coquettish i wish now, we had done more of these, but i didn't want to be #yoko which is just dumb in retrospect
Its awesome you have at least this public performance, im sure having lived these moments must have felt amazing.. So cool that after all this time just an hour ago you where on youtube watching this leaving comments.. I think that says alot..
Courtney the fact that you are a living rock god in your own respect and that you yourself are commenting on one of your rarest and greatest performances with another rock god, is one of the best things I've ever discovered on the internet. I thought hard about having even the remote opportunity to speak to you directly and exactly what I would write & came up with this stammering paragraph. I was aching with nostalgia for late 90's rock going through Hole videos, listening closely to lyrics and thinking to myself: "god dammit this woman is brilliant. She took a great tragedy; something that rips souls to shreds because there is nothing you can do to help or change or prevent a death of that kind; and poured it into emerging a very specific kind of rock. She didn't want to be a female Nirvana, Hole had it's own feeling but it was the closest thing to Kurt's soul still coming through the speakers." Doll Parts and Violet are still gems I turn up on full volume on my worst mornings just to get a surge of that sentiment. The "fuck this, I'm still going to kill the day," feeling. Let's not even get into the entire look or fashion of it. I just feel you should be reminded more, though I'm sure you know, that you catapulted yourself to legendary status. With yes lots of controversy; because there has to be some woman to blame in every tragedy. But you're there in the history books, not just as some mans girlfriend or wife, no never a Yoko, but something that was more in spite of him. Cliche but yes a Phoenix rising with vengeance instead of timidly making rare appearances at Benefits or things of that nature. You lived and didn't hide I think that's what makes people angry. In the little facts that do get trickled out to us, I see only that you loved a complicated, beautiful man, he is gone and even until 2 days ago you missed him and yourself and have regrets like any other person. But I think you've done very well. Things too brilliant or intricate to be understood, are always labeled absurd. Always rooting for you Love. Be well.
Courtney gets far too much stick. Kurt clearly loved her and they were both pretty messed up, it wasn’t all one sided. He’ll forever be missed but she had to go on without him and raise their daughter alone. Hopefully Frances Bean has a great life.
i really like courtney's version(s) of pennyroyal tea....her voice lends itself to it really well. where did you sleep last night has potential. they should have done a duet type thing on the verses then harmonized on the chorus. its a shame they didn't work together more..
Its such a shame this wasn't filmed. You both sound great together. There is a version of 'ask for it' on youtube with kurts vocals enhanced. That's great too!
you can say courtney dont sing nice or ruin the song but she isnt evil despite what most people here think and kurt always used to say stop hating her so at least respect his request
The young people regurgitate sexist cliche crap where they see kurt as saint. Who was kurt? a guy who could write good songs, appreciated complex, smart, artistic women. Courtney saved his life over and over according to all their friends. Courtney, even Billy Corgan just said on Howard Stern, is underrated as a musician. When you listen to her early work Pretty on the inside, it's evident she could write. She's a very talented woman. By all accounts her Hole wrote Live Through This. There's raw doc footage of her writing on guitar while holding her daughter.
Simone DeBeau yes, she is underated, she lived in the shadow of Kurt, and then he took his life and then she sank deeper into his shadow and was accused for it.
@@jameslaporta4010 perhaps because she was married to the lead singer of Nirvana and she gave him tips, just like how Kurt was inspired by Courtney when he made In Utero.
I think Kurt and Courtney were great together, actually. (In terms of singing together and just being a pop culture grunge couple together in general.) We don’t know what it was like in their relationship really. However I wish people knew their opinion on whether they like Courtney or not doesn't matter.. What does ragging on her now accomplish? woo free speech and everything; but maybe try to act like a decent human being & have empathy. Regardless of the theories her daughter had to grow up with no father, and she a widow. That is the reality. You don’t really know what happened. No one does. Your opinion holds no weight and I doubt Kurt would like all of you talking shit on the mother of his child whom he loved dearly...
Kurt went through a lot, not her. I think she killed him but it doesn't matter cause she said his suicide was her fault, so even if she isnt a lying bitch she is a bitch. So dont say people who want justice are bad people. Criminals are. Imagine this story happening the other way and in 2017...
WOW! Just found this yesterday... & now Courtney herself commenting! WHOOAA!! I'm sure the closest I'll get to my dream of meeting her ever since I was 14 when LTT came out. I've heard "Ask For It" w Kurt but can never be certain it's real so this is TRULY SOMETHING SPECIAL!! Thank You, Courtney. Please don't be down on the rarity of duets- THIS IS MAGIC & I WANT YOU HAPPY :)
@@El-gt7bu "...jeez, she's always doing things for me, always buying me presents and stuff, and always givin' me compliments and shit. It's great." -Kurt
@Suze Halberkamp If someone's being a piece of shit, then ignore them. There's no point in spreading hate because it's pointless, negative, and does no one any good. Literally ignore her. That's the worst thing you can do to an attention-seeker.
It's not so much about her music and it's more about who she is as a person and I'll admit she is a good person at times but also she did some bad stuff
This is perfection. Their voices work so well together, imagine the music they could have made together. I hate it when people say Courtney killed kurt because no she fucking didn't. When you look at pictures of them together they really loved each other and they always will. Courtney your a fucking legend, love you.
You are crazy has hell, that bitch just has sure as anything she had something to do with his death, you need to look at the evidence.these pictures don't mean anything.this was at the beginning of their relationship
Ya, that's y kurt was about to divorce the bitch. They also had a prenup so she wouldnt have gotten his $$ when they were divorced. Then he mysteriously dies.. insane amount of proof that courtney was lying about multiple things to cops, pi's and reporters and had motive and opportunity to have him killed. Anyone who doesnt think courtney was involved in Kurt's death is retarded
@@soundguardian644 We all watched it and it proved nothing. But for people who are easy to manipulate and give a shit about context, yeah it could work. There are even people who believe the earth is flat or that all birds are drones. You just have to watch the right documentary that fits the narrative.
You're right. I never thought of her as a bad musician because she's really good. But there's the disadvantage, because I totally hate her personality. But that's my opinion friends, don't start attacking me.
@@micaela7159 Look at her IMDB. "Straight to hell". 1987. Bit part in sid and nancy. Short time as the lead singer of faith no more. Hole began in the 80's. Played Madonna in the film "Basquiat." etc. the people vs. Larry Flint (I think during Cobain marriage). Anyway, she was around doing interesting things before she married Kurt Cobain.
@@MrThedonhead She had a small role in sid n nancy, was the female lead in "straight to hell ",also starring Joe Strummer (1987), was the singer for Faith No More for a short stint and HOLE began in teh late 80's. Just saying, she was a star on the rise all ready.
She saved him constantly. And from all accounts was devastated when he ran off and left us; When we tell tales of Courtney. We have to be aware that we're telling the story in a very sexist world. She acted like Kurt did, but got annihilated and denied her taltent because we cant' handle complex rockstar women acting like male rockstars.
Jim Blackwood The talent required to write some of the most pungent, vitriolic and deliciously gloomy songs of the entire Grunge era, like "Teenage Whore" or "Violet", just to name two examples.
It's taken me literally decades to sort out my anguish and confusion enough to give Courtney Love her due. Weirdly, I found myself face-to-face with her in a hotel room delivering her room service in NYC. I sure as shit didn't know what to say, especially given my disdain for the "glam" lifestyle which brought her to that godforsaken hotel. But hearing her cover of "Credit in the Straight World" recently made me go back and take a second listen. I resequenced give Through This to highlight the punkier album songs and let the hits earn their place as compositions, rather than grief exploitation (which how they were inevitably framed in the 90's). Try it out if you like - it helped me to hear her now in the context of feminist rockers like Bikini Kill, Liz Phair, The Raincoats, and The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, rather than simply as the "Yoko" of Kurt Cobain. She's got a hell of a voice, too. Credit in the Straight World Jennifer's Body Plump She Walks Violet Gutless I Think That I Would Die Asking For It Miss World Rock Star Doll Parts Softer, Softest
Dear Courtney, if you are reading this I hope to share a song I came across here that just screamed at me, "I SO WISH COURTNEY LOVE WOULD COVER THIS! SHE'S THE ONLY PERSON WHO CAN PULL IT OFF & JUST BE SO PERFECTLY INTENSE & BADASS!" I hope you enjoy the song, it's rare Buckingham/Nicks. I always love your covers- Buckingham Nicks Live - Forget About Me
LOL, I think I heard Courtney say *yeah good, song, *Sonny & Cher*@ the very end of the clip., My goodness she & Kurt sure did have great harmony together. She's so strong in her screams she backed off the mic so Kurt could be heard equally! Peace & Love to ALL!
FFS, how many years are people going to go on and on about this? I came here to watch a video and all I see in the comments are insults towards Courtney Love. Get over this conspiracy BS already. No one killed Kurt except Kurt. Sorry to break it to everyone. I wanted it to be something more than that too. We all did. Jesus, if you have read his journals, the biographies, and his lyrics, can you really wonder if he was suicidal? Courtney Love had success with Hole before she married Kurt Cobain. She was going to be famous regardless. Hole sold millions of records and was nominated for four Grammys after Cobain died. She can be abrasive and unlikable, but this ridiculous hatred for her by Nirvana fans is embarrassing. Haven't we all grown up enough now to realize we were just assholes to the woman?
I'm not here because of the conspiracys, but because of the rest of your comment.Come on,Hole's first album barely reach 800 thousand worlwide. I think the key-words in what you said are"after Cobain died". It was after the Nirvana/Kurt association that her"career"really took off(even before his death). What is the reason she got her part in "Larry Flint",for ex? Because of her acting skills? I doubt someone would ever said"I know this band called Hole,i think the lead singer is perfect for that role". I'm not being an asshole just saying what it was. "She was going to be famous regardless",maybe, but i bet it would be a Kardashian type of fame, hollow.
Cvlt Classic Yep,that was close to none. My point was, being famous is not the same as having the respect of most of your colleagues and the reverence from millions of people, around the world. She blew Ted Nugent when she was 12 (her words), she was a striper and groupie for many years, she dated Billy Corgan,Kurt Cobain,Trent Reznor,Edward Norton, just to name a few. Of course the girl is famous.
I wonder how music would be today if Kurt was alive and wonder if it would be a little bit different because the impact Kurt had on us in the 90's was amazing and the day he died is a day I'll never forget and all I knew of him was his music and it was like the world stopped for a few seconds and that look that my friend Tom had on his face while looking back at me from the front seat in the car after hearing he died on the radio as a tear ran down my face and for years we would have a moment of silence when Nirvana came on the radio!! If only we could go back and save him from his death, I miss you Kurt
I agree the day of his Death I was painting a exterior hearing the radio KLOS 95.5 felt the world stop for a second . lost a big part of the music buessnes. Miss you Kurt.
Congrats on all your RU-vid comments Courtney, very refreshing and revolutionary to be remarking on your own material. Who else of your calibre has the honesty and balls to that me lady x
Love Nirvana, love hole... Pennyrole is nasty, but when he takes the lead in the second song her sharps/flats really complement the piece...when she's not singing the wrong lyrics lol
Damn.....ppl get really fired up just over a comment?? Courtney's voice n the way she is able to scream is fuckin awesome! Kurt n Courtney's voices represent pain, honesty, love, hate, confusion, self awareness, freedom, rebellion, the lost, despiration, anger, sadness, real passion....... artists like Kurt and Courtney are so rare.... she has a very seductive vibe to her, I can totally see how Kurt was drawn to her.... honestly, I'm just glad that we still have Courtney with us.....just wished she would have put out more music than she has.....I will always be interested in hearing what she has to say n sang!
Who is the heliosn florencina guy he is talking about at the start of the songs?? I have been looking for for a couple weeks and can not find anyone...and one more queston...the original poster said they were sorry about sound quality because this was coming straight from the sound board...what difference does that make ..like sound wise?? I thought this sounded great, but I love live music in any fashion
If music were purely emotion, these two would be considered gifted. Quit arguing about their musical abilities. Enjoy it or not... no one really cares. They certainly didn’t/don’t!
all I remember was singing along to this song in my cousin's truck and harmonizing with it, it's eerie that I was singing almost the same harmony Kurt was without even seeing this video.
