Kurt was one of the hardest workers ever.

Kurt was a surfboard riding, soda drinking, easy going kid when he came to the Lakers. He used a great work ethic to make himself into a very valuable power forward who rebounded, set picks, and played defense. His marriage to Linda changed him into a much more serious, front office type of guy, who has worked himself up the ladder with the Lakers to a position where he is one of the decision makers. It has been quite a transformation, but he is a very smart guy.

I was a huge Celtics fan, and couldn't stand the Lakers, as a team, even though I admired many of the Lakers players. That said, McHale should have been ejected and suspended for that clothesline. I thought that, right when it happened. He could have severely injured Rambis, or worse, with a shot like that, during a high leap. Kurt Rambis comes across as a highly personable, likable, and down to earth dude. Thanks for this interview. I never saw one, that I remember, back in the day.

Did u think the same when worthy did it to max in game 6? How bout when kite did it to worthy in 85 or 87 when Liambeer took down bird in game 4 or parish took down Liambeer in game 5? Lol or when Dantley and VJ took each other out in game 7? Man, when basketball was good.

@@NBAHistoryCLNS I don't see the point of your reply. A lot of dangerous and semi dangerous actions occur in the NBA. There are plenty that a player should be suspended for, and some not. This is one instance that sticks in my memory, because, if Rambis had landed on his head, from that height, it would have stood a good chance of killing him, or paralyzing him. No game is worth killing somebody to win, or just to keep fans happy.

Great, great memories! Use to love when Kurt would go diving for balls on the floor or into the stands! He always gave a max effort! Use to love the kids at the Forum who would have their Rambis glasses on. Great days!

I loved the version of Lakers with these guys. I love all these Laker team of the 80s and early 90s. The whole team was simply great.

Great interview. Kurt looks pretty much the same, just a little less hair these days.

I was a big Bird fan , respected Cooper and hated him at the same time . Copper guarded Bird better than anyone . I’m my opinion of all the big names on the 80’s Lakers Cooper was the one who made the Lakers the better team by being about the only player to keep bird in check to some degree

Great interview Coop! Interesting how the Lakers already had great rebounders when Rambis was asked to tryout

I hated Kurt Rambis back in the day. I was a Sixers fan. I was like who's this nerdy white guy but you could see right away that the dude was a great and strong player , he was a great pickup by the Lakers , he fit perfectly.

Hey Coop, whatever happened to Dancing Barry?
@edkiely2712
@edkiely2712 2 года назад
Yes Eric! Barry Richard's! He was first noticed by Chick Hearn in 1983 after he got up dancing during a timeout and the Lakers went on like an 8-0 run! Eventually the Lakers started paying him $35 a game to dance and around '85 or so, the Clippers offered him $200 to dance for them. Jerry Buss matched it! Barry became disillusioned with the games and the Lakers and last danced at a game in 1990! He was upset the Lakers never gave him a raise and he quit going to the games! In 2007, the Lakers front office asked him to attend the 20yr anniversary of the '87 championship. He asked them to pay for his trip and they wouldn't do it, so he never showed! Unfortunately things have never been healed between them I don't believe!

The Lakers took a chance on proven but older players, and now, in 2022, it shows. Also, there are players on the team that haven't bought into the sacrifices Kurt mentions. It was worth a chance, I suppose - it was a great temptation to have LeBron (who still brings it on the court) but as Chick Hearn said so many times, "Father Time is still undefeated". The Lakers have to rebuild and stop taking orders from players about how to form a team. You made basketball exciting, Kurt, but you have a big renovation job ahead of you. It's not going to be easy, because you're starting from scratch.

Comparable to any other team that tried this AARP experiment. Celtics in 1977-79? Jeanie buss knows this. The lakers are the only franchise bigger than LeBron’s brand and yet they let him trade away a championship team to bring in a bunch of old superstars trying to play 2010’s basketball. Sadly, it just doesn’t add up that way. Doesn’t work. I feel bad for the lakers and i can’t believe I’m saying it but they’ll be just one more city left in the dust after LeBron sucks everything he wants out of it record wise. He may break Kareem record on Kareem’s team and leave them w no picks until 2028 and in the worst situation the franchise has been in since Magic retired (the first time).
