Thanks for posting! This is a great performance, and we are fortunate to have it. To the people complaining about the mix, please keep in mind that amplifying instruments is very different between the stage and the studio. Also, we do not know how the sound for this video was recorded--open air mic, soundboard, or some combination. So give the guy a break and enjoy this for what it is: a great moment that was captured and provided to you for free!
I agree. I have listened to this session continuously for two weeks as I write a book. It is inspirational. Every time I listen I find something new. This is some of the most beautiful music I have ever heard in any genre.
Aaron Parks works very well with Kurt R. 2 of my favorite musicians. Nice to know they sound great together. It would be a dream to see Kurt and Aaron join forces like Metheny and Mays and do their version of the Pat Metheny Group.
Aaron Parks and kurt have played together for years. What a connection there is between them. If you haven’t already check out His earlier stuff w Mark Turner. If you have, you know.
Beautiful. Thanks for posting Valerio. I agree with Kriss that the high hat is a bit distracting. But I like how the bass is miked. I can't even hear it on some of these You Tube recordings. Overall this is another beautiful performance by Kurt.
second tune, polish song, or something like that . solo guitar piece on his first record enemies of energy, or something like that . loved it then beautiful arrangement of a beautiful song
First tune is one of Kurt's - it's called "Cycle 5" - moves around in fifths. It's actually some years old, i think. Heard it on some recordings from 2005, but he has been playing it recently.
Yep! Thanks for posting Valerio. Beautiful version of Shifting Design. Wish the full thing was here :) I'm not familiar w/ the first tune, but I think it was my favorite from these three. It makes me wanna keep on marchin', if you now what i mean. Very "anthemic." I'm assuming it's a new tune from Kurt or Aaron, but if someone knows where I could find a recording of it (aside from here, of course...), and could reply to this post, I'd appreciate it. Peace...
I don't know who have mixed this, but there is way too much hi-hat in the mix and in general the sound is very bright, missing some warmth(or just too much brightness). A bit annoying listening to all the hi-hat and there is no need of putting a delay or reverb with some weird effects on piano, not cool. Next time just use a nice reverb! Thanks!
And reverb on drums? Amm, why? Also some weird effect, like really long pre-delay on the reverb panned left or smth., just destroying the music. I am sure it sounds better just dry!
+Kriss Veismanis I can hear what you're writing about. There is an overall greatness in the music itself, though. I'm especially enjoying 18:28 which suits me at all levels. What's the name of the tune beginning at 18:28? Also, small kit, huge drummer. What kind of hat is Kurt wearing? Might want one like that for this winter.
+jazz4asahel It would be way better without some effects, which destroy the music they are making. That's exactly the thing, music is so great, so there is no point of adding useless effects, I think it would be way more pleasent just without any "mixing" if it goes that much wrong.
Ha ha ha, I can't believe that Kurt is allowing his beautiful music to be available on RU-vid with such a schizophrenic sound mix. Or maybe He doesn't know...
