@@DerQuanDoucettHe does have more talent but the QB position is played with the mind and ability to handle the pressure. In the playoffs Rodgers isn't nearly as good as he is in the regular season. We've watched him outright lose games with his performances, that's why he won't be looked at the same way. We can't even say he hasn't had the weapons, he just couldn't step up in the biggest moments.

Jones isn’t being honest about Montana. He may have grown up in the Bay but he was too young to have watched him play AND he grew up a Raiders fan! Montana has four Super Bowls AND a college national championship. He has 3 SB MVPs and 2 regular season MVPs. Before the last 15 years when offensive numbers went crazy, he had a ton of the QB records. Also, what makes Rodgers more talented? Montana was extremely talented particularly with his accuracy and could run when he needed to but what made him special was his decision making. Let’s also not forget that Montana played in an era when QBs got destroyed still. There’s a reason why the 49ers brought in Young when Montana was still relatively young. Montana’s body was breaking down but had he played today, Montana would play into his 40s too if he wanted to.

So he will always have an amazing td to int ratio and formidable passer rating. But he does at the expense of coming back. He has a frightening low number of come from behind wins. Joe, on the other hand, was masteful at being a comeback kid going all the way back to the Notre Dame days.

It was a great question. The answer is no. But the comparison to Peyton is not accurate. Even if you removed that Super Bowl, he’s still won one and been to 2 others. Consistent talent AND winning is what it takes to be an all time great. Let alone a GOAT.

The logic is simple. People look at stats and leave out context. Payton manning in those play offs made all the right plays and a crucial reason why they beat the patriots in the AFC championship. Any other quarterback most likely throws a few interceptions or doesn’t do enough to win, and send them to the Super Bowl. It was a low scoring game and manning understood to simply keep the ball out of harms way to win. For context I do think that it’s close enough whereby if Aaron wins one more Super Bowl he would surpass Peyton. As of now he has no chance of catching Brady.

Peyton Manning played horribly for the Broncos in the Super Bowl he won with them, Von Miller was the Super Bowl MVP for a reason. Manning played horribly that whole year, to the point he was benched during the regular season. If Rodgers plays well and wins another ring doing it, he easily jumps into the top 5.

How so? The goat convo is a mixed bag of things. If somehow Rodger’s figured out a way to get a Super Bowl after having a subpar season, he’d enter the circle. Why? Bc he already has the MVPs and the regular season accolades. But it takes chips too. Same thing in reverse, Terry Bradshaw has 4 chips, but no one considers him the goat bc he didn’t demonstrate it during the regular season as well.

Playing well when it isn’t as important or playing lights out when it’s on the biggest stages? Obviously it’s a culmination which is why Peyton Manning is in the top 10 all time because of his regular season success and talent. Same with guys like Dan Marino because we could see how good and talented he was despite never getting a ring. The overall point is, whatever you value most at the QB position as a whole, you need to keep that same train of thought all the way through.

Here's the thing though nobody takes away mannings ring and he gets praised as a 2 time champion still won 4 playoff games. The goat conversation is a rich tapestry of talent accomplishments eyetests and winning. Nobody is Brady because his winning and brain over powers elite arm talents that's why we say Mahomes doesn't need 7 because in a lot of peoples eyes he's the best player we've ever seen. Also only getting to 1 Super Bowl and having multiple collapses in the most important game of the season hurts Aaron's legacy.

Otto Graham won 7 titles and no one calls him the best ever. I never saw him play, that’s why I don’t have an idea how good he might have been. I did see both Brady and Montana and I’ll take Montana. I think the biggest problem for Aaron Rodgers as well as for a lot of other quarterbacks is unfortunately they played in the era of Tom Brady. Tom kept a lot of people from winning super bowls. I think the separation here is actually pretty simple. GOAT conversations should be the ultimate culmination of many other conversations. Talent, intelligence, accuracy, winning records, championships, the eye test, strength, work ethic, overcoming adversity, supporting cast, scheme, era, etc.. should all be weighed together. Its the person(s) that rises to the top of each of those individual conversations that then get considered for the GOAT title. The most talented is only the most talented if he isnt the top of the class in any other categories. The GOAT will be world class in EVERY category, not just talent.
