I hate it when I'm trying to play basketball but the court is filled with martial artists who exclusively do back spin kicks. In such situations I usually play basketball in the sky.
@jett woodward in the States* America goes beyond you guys and indeed, football is the most important sport in America, but the British one, not the American
First human being in history to get a record deal, airplay & videos as a rapper. Kurtis Blow is basically the Adam of hip hop. Literally the prototype. First ever. #Historic
Yup. And that’s literally why he shouldn’t be clowned and disrespected for his rap style. He was literally one of the first to do it on a commercial level. Like the man is the blueprint 🤷🏽♂️
Lmao good to see a bunch of NL viewers in the comments at the moment. The bit in that Mario Maker video "very humorous" I would say, and my musical tastes have been forever changed. Not really the latter, but IF they had been changed, oh baby...
Every building has a foundation. To some this may seem corny, but it is part of the hip hop foundation. Many M.C.`s were inspired by this dude and we keep building. Without a start, there is no middle etc. This is the beginning;appreciate that.
Too many "so called" hip hop fans don't appreciate it roots, or even have any knowledge of them. Can't really blame them, though. Mainstream media does not honor old school hip hop artists like they do other forms of classic music. Every now and then Run DMC will get a nod, but they act like no other artists existed back then or before then. You literally have to put in the work to dig for yourself to learn about the roots of hip hop.
This was hip-hop on records, on streets and in clubs it sounded like how it did with Run DMC around this time too, but because the time when hip-hop was first being put on records was the '70s and early '80s then the street sound would be too dark compared to all the happy pop/funk at the time.
Though I do love Kurtis Blow, Grandmaster Flash, Cold Crush Brothers, Afrika Bambaataa and the Soul Sonic Force/Zulu Nation etc. The TRUE pioneers (though the pioneers of DJing) were Kool Herc, Flash again, Grand Wiz Theodore, Grandmaster Flowers, Afrika Bambaataa (again), Grandmaster Caz, Davey D and so much more.
@@ZappyTahZappy I can remember in the early 2000s, I was hoopin to this song as a kid and it always reminded me of Kobe. Times are different my friend...
🏀As a cheerleader, my squad and I turned the song into a cheer/chant. It was our signature dance routine in 1984-1985! And of course, the players ran out on the floor to warm up with the song. Great high school memories! 📣
Kungfu and Imitation Wrestling matches. in our neighborhood there was the 4 horseman. lol we use to starr wrestling when someone called ball(foul) good ole days
this was me and my dad’s favorite song he’d play this for me all the time we’re a big sports family and growing up to this song was the best i miss you so much dad may you rest in peace!! 🙏🏼🙌🏼❤️
Sorry for your loss mate, I'm sure he's hella proud of you and how far you've come while sitting by you through your life. Stay strong as always and keep focus on being your best! :)
This song is actually more popular now than it was when it came out. I’m totally serious. I hear it more often in the last year than the actual year it came out. As for the budget for shooting the video I’d imagine they ran out of $$ funds & some guy said hey I know the guy who owns the warehouse where Chaka Kahn’s ‘I feel for you’ video was shot. He is cool he’ll let us film there for free. Oh I should add that Basketball is my favorite sport.
of course it wasn't as popular smh.. it was a 40 years ago.. records and cassette tapes was the main form of buying albums or singles, from an actual brick and mortar store.. not the number of media, social or otherwise, to watch the video or talk about it, share in light speed.. not sure satellite radio was as popular either in 1984 when this came out. it was big then.. smh maybe not your community. video wasn't a budget issue either.. that was the style and the tech and the idea of cheerleaders etc smh
I was eating my lunch at the public park the other day and some 60 yr old boomer black guy was just blasting this on a speaker and netting perfect three pointers one after the other.
2012? That is a throwback to a song made in 1984? You kids today are hilarious. You probably say 2017 is the old school. Open your eyes and look around.
Why has Drake or some other rapper redone this song with modern players? Hell Kurtis Blow could redo it himself. The NBA would probably love it and may even use it for their promotion
Obviously they were supposed to be acting quirky. Everything in the video is directed and choreographed including the little dance the cheerleaders are doing. Everyone is also acting very quirky in this video and I think it's pretty fitting for the song but I think that's what you mean by "lazy," right? I'll say everyone in the music video is doing a good job at what they were told to do and it has nothing to do with skin colour.
This track has an electrifying effect that takes you to an all time high. Best rap of a lifetime to have come from the stable of the rap king, kurtis Blow.
They should make a version of this song for every generation. Kurtis Blow covered the 80s players, Bow Wow covered 90s players, now someone should cover the 2000s players. Though this gens song would probably suck. "Were you in the joint the night Lebron travelled to get every point"
Na Li Yeah, I listened to it after I first heard this. Not HORRIBLE, but definitely inferior, with lyrics about more recent players. Which results in him replacing the line about being in the joint the night Wilt scored 100 points with one about the night Jordan scored 63, which is just...no, come on. Yeah fine, they're both impressive, but 100 > 63. Don't fucking change that line, it's a part of NBA history as much as anything Jordan did.
Before N.W.A. entered the room and took a big, greasy shit on the party. It used to fun and danceable, but after 'F-- Tha Police', Whites headed away from rap (except whiggers) and it has descended to the mumbling mess we have today.
Cadê os brasukas escutando Kurtis blow , essa era demais , se dançava de verdade , pois se tinha música de qualidade , saudades de um tempo que não volta mais.
This is dope man... I'd take this over half the shit they make today. So catchy and it has a good vibe to it... Must've been FUN living back then with this kind of stuff around, nowadays there ain't no fun, just stupid shit about drugs, girls, fame, money...
This is the 1st rap video ever made. He is the 1st rap producer,1st rap millionaire,1st rapper to get major record deal, 1st rapper to go gold, 1st rapper to get endorsement deal, 1st rapper to go overseas.

Kurt's Blow That is what RAP was originally. Nothing vulgar, never saying your mother's a bitch and your sister's a whore. Kurt's Blow was my very favorite.
