I had a hell of a time installing these today. I test fir them after scraping off all the old glue with no glue. They slid on just fine no issues. But after adding glue they both stopped about 3/4 of the way on and would not budge and inch further. I had to pull them back off after the glue had partially dried and some of the rubber inside coming off, re scrape the bars, and reinstall them again. I was very concerned after the first time it happened, trying to be extra quick and through cleaning off the old glue. I did finally get them on, but I felt like I may have slightly damaged them inside on both sides doing it. Hope they last, I don't even want to think about having to take them off again.
That's probably gonna take some time and effort. You're going to need something thin that you can slide between the bar and grip to break up the glue, while also twisting the grip--something like a feeler gauge or the like.
how do you keep them from slipping off? I have been told some riders have been killed having them on their bike and they slip off. mine have gotten loose and glues I have tried only hold a short time
I have a quick question! I have these grips on my bike. The are getting pretty worn out. How easy is it to remove my old ones and install a new pair of the same grips? Thanks in advance...
3zonker88 It’s hard to say how easy it would be to remove the clutch-side grip because it depends on how much glue was used upon install. Basically you’ll have to break the grip loose of the glue. Try twisting back and forth. If that doesn't work try applying some heat, with like a hairdryer to warm up the glue and twist. Also try removing the end cap and see if you can get a really thin blade between the grip and bar to break up the glue.
These grips will get stuck wide open and cause continuing acceleration when you attempt to close the throttle luckily I had none in front of me immediately and wasn't making a turn when the grip bound the throttle wide open and was stuck there I pulled the clutch and hit the kill switch avoiding any accident or injury but it could have damaged my bike or worse hurt me or someone else on the rd
Hi Thor, sorry to hear about your experience with these grips. I've ridden with them and never had an issue. Did you find out what specifically caused the binding?
