There are records about a single KV-2 assaulting the Finnish lines in 1939. It got stopped (literally) by barbed wire and then got tracked by an AT-mine, crew abandoned. Probably some proto-type being tested by drunk crew who thought it was a good idea.

It would definitely have the potential to detonate ammo but the 1000s of buckshot sized particles entering the tank seem like a bigger problem. The blast wave itself would be enough to knock out the crew

Because its more like SAPHE which is basically an HE shell which can penetrate some armour/concrete first, then the blast does the rest

Steel is roughly 10~15 times stronger than concrete, so a shell intended to defeat concrete can have much thinner walls and thus a much larger explosive payload.

But how does it penetrate so much concrete. Surely heavy and strong substances like concrete should be able to stop penetration of up to a meter.

It penetrate armor steel. Now go figure how it penetrate concrete.

It goes through concrete easily but it barely ‘penetrates’ the port, it turns the port into shrapnel. How is it slowed so easily by metal but flies through concrete is my question.

MG-34. They never made a port version of the MG-42. Main reason was that the 34 had a single shot mode and the 42 didn't.

Main reason was actually that the mg34 barrel could be changed without removing the gun from the mount by twisting the receiver to the side. The mg42 had its barrel pop out the side of the barrel jacket which wouldn't have been possible when in a ball mount

That Ferdinand crew requires a bit more training if it's 100 meters away, head on, from 50 tons of poorly welded steel.

Infantry. Modern infantry aren't like WW2 infantry, modern infantry don't carry explosive powder around and throw them under tanks, they just use the simple and easy to use javelin, while during WW2 the average infantryman would be carrying a large bag of explosive powder, to throw under a tank incase he ever came into contact with one, so tanks had to have machine guns to defend against this from happening, and infact, later in the war when the machine guns were rarer in tanks more tanks blew up to infantry than enemy tanks, take the jagdtiger as an example, or the german panzer IV (J) if I'm not mistaken, many of those died to infantry than to other tanks (the vast majority were blown up by their own crews however..due to fuel shortages and demoralization of armies). Also, bow MG ports aren't even a weakspot in the armor, it's a strong spot (if it was made to the same thickness metal as the main plate, like in german and soviet tanks) since it tends to have thicker more overlapping armor, so don't be fooled by videogames which make you think they are weakspots, of course this doesn't apply to the american tanks, since they for some reason didn't want to pay for it I guess, but it's not like it's any worse to not put it, since the chances of a shell even hitting such a tiny spot is so small, so it's not worth the thousands of dollars in material and production costs just for 2 or 3 tanks to be knocked out that way really.. (I'm not implying that only 3 american tanks blew up to MG port shots).

Nowadays tanks have machine guns on the roof instead of the hull. With remote controlled RWS setups, you don't need to have a guy sitting on the top of the tank to shoot it either.

Its been reduced for simplicity but the shell stopped moving already so wouldnt make a difference

welp in WOT is even worse, they nerfed the HE shells so they only cause damange if penetrates the armor. I can shoot the side of a Tiger at point blank range and do basically nothing....they ruined my favorite tank there so i basically gave up and uninstalled
