He’s absolutely right! The paradigm shift that is required to turn out fortunes around is what he’s talking about, spend within your means! Even IMF has been telling us this. I agreed with this mp comment and I respect him for that. continue speaking like that from now on but I totally disagree with you saying it only NPP who can develop this country because, apart from Dr.Kwame nkrumah, it is only General Achimpong and PNDC/ NDC regime has a monumental project in this country. Because this criminal Government has borrowed more than any government since our independent but nothing to show to pay back our debt.

Fair points, but it doesn't address the reality of the state capture. They've turned from just taking loans internationally, to buying state assets amongst themselves. That is a strong deviation from the borrowing norm of the political class he spoke of.

I would have believed this MP if not for the fact that Ghana has nothing to show for all the money borrowed under this administration. If we had used those funds to shift from taxation to production as Bawumia promised, perhaps the dividends from such investments could be used to service the loans. Unfortunately that’s not the case; borrowed money is still looted like there’s no tomorrow.

What was our debt from independence to 2016

I think our total debt as of December 2016 was about GHS 122 billion (not 200 billion). Today, the debt is about GHS 700 billion even after some debt forgiveness. It went as high as GHS 900 billion. This means that within just 8 years, this government has more than 6x our debt stock. This is the reality.
