Facts and information about KWPN Dutch Warmblood horse
The Dutch Warmblood is a “warmblood sport horse” breed. The Dutch Warmblood is a modern sport horse derived from the
selective breeding of German, French, and English horses crossed with the native Dutch stock.
The breed is very versatile, used - as a horse for the major international equestrian disciplines of dressage, jumping, three-day event and driving
The KWPN (Studbook of the Royal Dutch Sport Horse) is a Netherlands-based organization specializing in the breeding of jumpers, dressage horses, harness horses, and Gelder horses.
The KWPN is a modern association with a rich history.
The goal of the KWPN is to breed modern sporthorses that perform at the top level of international equestrian sports.

The organisation KWPN is been divided in three breeding projects: 1) Rijpaard 'Riding horse' (dressage, Showjumping warmbloods for riding) 2) Tuigpaard 'Harness horse' for hitched competitions 3) The Gelderlander breed has been allowed to board the programme and have it's own place. To save confusion- KWPN's dressage and Show jumping scene are already bursting with worldclass lines, and the versatile Gelderlander has a place of it's own, YET can fit in the other two as well. Today's sporty warmblood horses of the KWPN is filled with Arabian, Thoroughbred and current top German Warmblood lines. The Dutch word 'Tuigpaard' (harness horse) means two things in the hobby: 1) Any harness- type horse and this is lightly refering to a type, NOT per sé a breed. Groninger and Friesians are also seen as Tuigpaard horses. 2) The refined Gelderlander horse variation with strong Hackney infusions shown in high stepping hitched classes (what you just saw in the video). I would also like to add that the Dutch Warmblood also comes in color paterns: Tobiano, Sabino, Rabicano with thanks to the Gelderlander who are keenly seen with flashy amounts of white on the legs and face.

Hmmm some misinformation here. The Dutch warmblood basically comes in any colour, including piebald. The Dutch warm blood is not mainly used in competitions, by far the majority of Dutch warmbloods are recreational horses. Your pricing is way way out of the ballpark, anything from a couple of hundred Euros to more than a million is/has been possible. The Duchwarmblood is a composite of many European warm bloods and Tbs even Selle Francais etc. Totilas's father Gribaldi wasn't a Dutch warmblood for example he was a Trakehner. His grand father Glendale is out of Nimmerdor and grand mother out of Akteur who is out of the Holsteiner Amor, also incredibly influencial. Nimmerdor's sire on the other hand was the incredibly influential in Dutch warmblood breeding Holsteiner, Farn, Nimmerdors dam's father was an English thoroughbred Koridon. On the mare side you find many old Dutch horses be they harness horses or plough horses but you have to go quite far back.

KWPN horses are not a breed. It's a studbook(I tried translating stamboek from Dutch, studbook is the closest translation but stamboek also includes mares, geldings and foals). There are a selection of requirements for a horse to register. Those being different for jumping, dressage, riding, driving, stallions, mares and foals. They look at everything from conformation to character. It's not a breed and some horse breeds can actually register if they meet the requirements. Thats also why no horse is the same. Some are extremely light and hot while others are a little more heavy and calm. Though almost every DWB horse has a great, sweet, willing character.

Its a shame nobody noticed that there were two HACKNEY horses being driven and NOT dutch warmbloods! Both are equally brilliant at their work but its a shame we didnt get to see a true dutch WB being driven.

I believe they are all Dutch Warmbloods in a sense. The confusion might be that the Dutch "Warmblood" and Dutch "Dutch Harness Horse" (DHH) are all registered under the KWPN. So, that means that they're all Dutch "competition style sport horse warmblood types", just with different talents/aptitudes and genetics. The KWPN warmblood "Dutch Harness Horse" stud book has also approved a few American Saddlebred and Hackney Horse stallions for breeding, which of course influences movement. Please reference Graaf Kelly for another high stepping 'version' of a Dutch 'warmblood' horse. It can be confusing to Americans who tend to be a little hung up on the mystique of "purebreds", (be it horses, dogs,or whatever). Most sporthorse breeders I know look at Quality/structure/soundness/performance FIRST when planning a breeding. Hope this cleared up some confusion?

for those of you who don't ride DON'T buy a Dutch warmblood far too highly strung for a novice and too many to sift through and waste money to find a good one should have stated that in the video

Yes, they are generally more high string than average, but don't say not to buy one if you're a novice. It all really depends on the horse. And if you have the money to buy one that's calm, go for it! My dutch warmblood is the sweetest boy, and an extremely talented hunter.

For those who are determined riders regardless of level and can do their homework properly- There are some lines that are known to be very spirited, for example youngstock from the KWPN dekhengst JAZZ, and more sweetnatured and ballanced horses from dekhengst KRACK C as example. Always know from the roots with what you're dealing with.
