FYI to everyone, if nai ban or any authority figures in Laos wants to view or see your passport, don’t give it to them. They don’t have the right to see it. You went through the proper channels and the country allowed you entry. Call the U.S. Embassy right away if you suspect any suspicious behaviors because they can easily pay off authorities to do harm to you.
From personal experiences, my family and I have helped many relatives from Laos without charge or asking for money. These people come and stays for years!!!! I mean literally for years just hard working for their family ONLY. No matter how much you've driven them to their working place or let them stay with you in your house they don't offer to buy a single thing or help pitch in for a single bill. Then when you go to their country they charge you and expect you to pay for everything.

Before, we make them a priority because we were afraid they will tu siab because they're in a foreign land and don't know the language. But now.... I will only help when I can. My family and life is my priority.😩
Just say "NO" when they ask you to help them come over to the US. Act like you're dumb and don't know how to help them do paper works and act like you're very poor and don't have money. Most of all don't let them know your contact infos so they can't call you
That’s why my wife and I traveled in the USA only. Laos is a no go list country to go, after listening to many Hmong Laos stories, I have no heart feeling for the Hmong Laos.
I have a aunt who my blood uncle married and brought from Loas. She and my uncle tried to get me to make a marriage license with her brother so he can stay here. I'm like, nope! It's a good thing I didn't do because she's only been here five years and she's already mean to my uncle and grandma, now that she has her citizenship. And now, she's also trying to get my younger sisters to do it for them. Smh. Don't get yourself trapped in Hmong Nplog's scams.

May, you should share more of these kind of stories so our Hmong meka will learn from each other not to help those money hungry Hmong Laos. I’ve visited Laos 2 times and my ex-in laws from Laos stayed with me so I totally feel these couples pain. My in laws came and worked so hard but lives with us for free and kept sending money to their kids in Laos to build a house, buy a car/van and land. Just don’t get me started. We need to stop catering to those Hmong Lao people.
You can go visit the Country just don't go visit your relatives. If you born in the USA then go visi the Country where your parents came from. My cousin and her mom went to Laos years ago and they stayed a half sister's house in the city, for every meal they ate they have to give money for them to buy foods but the relatives have some papaya trees in the backyard they did not even bother to pick some to make papaya for them. Hmoob Laos just expect and want you to gives, gives, gives, and they just to take, take, and takes!!!!! Once my cousin and her mom came back, the kids of the relatives even have the nerves to ask for more money to buy a computer even they are well off. Hmoob Laos can not be trusting even if they are blood related. Stop helping them and bringing them to America!!! Let them be poor where they belong most of them, you don't know who is who!!!

My family and I just spent the last three weeks visiting Vietnam and Thailand. We purposely avoid Laos because there are nothing there for us. The closet we ever got to Laos was when we visited the Golden Triangle and that was too close for us. Majority (not all) of the people, including close relatives there just want your money. They don’t care about you.
Laos is not bad. If you don't look for trouble, it won't look for you. The reason why some Hmong-meekas keep having these issues is because they keep flogging their money around like they are rich.

So true. We hosted some relatives years ago for a few years. Never did they buy any food even though they worked in the farms. Had family members went to visit that family in Laos after their return and overheard these same relatives telling their daughter n nyab to not make too much meat for these American Hmong.

They will not love us no matter how much we love them. They feel entitled and take and take and take. They are poor but lack compassion for anyone. The will bite their own siblings there let alone here. They only talk sweet when they need something from us.
I been to Laos, Thailand, and Vietnams for vacation to enjoy nature, resorts, but didn’t visit relatives not even let them know. And you need to scan a copy of your passport into your phone, your email so if they took your original one, you still have a copy. And you can tell Embassy that the original been stolen.
Yes I love to travel. However, I do make copy of my passport and carry in my carry on in case an emergency. FYI- please please make a passport card as well.

I’m glad I don’t have any close relatives back in Laos after 1975. But however, I have sat my mind not to deal with or trust any Hmong from or in Laos, Vietnam and China, no matter how close related to my family.
