A 2006 CRV does not have the top hat/washer. There is a steel collar under the nut that the rubber is bonded to like a control arm bushing. It looks like newer ones have a different setup, but not a 2nd Gen. I changed the upper mounts on both struts to OEM Honda upper mounts that have much stiffer and better quality rubber and haven’t had any problems since.
this is the dumbest vid ever, you are lucky to be alive and should never work on cars. All thats holding it in is the rubber. You used all the parts on the new mount and you forgot half on this one.
That nut is hard up against an inner steel insert that is bonded to the rubber. Same as the OEM mounts. If there was a washer over all of that, it would make the entire upper mount a rigid piece.
I've used KYB gas adjust shocks on a number of vehicles over the years and I have to say they are awesome.The only time I've ever had any problems at all was when I installed KYB shocks on the back of my Nissan 300Z.The new shocks didn't come with a dust boot on them and as an experienced mechanic I should have known better but I installed them anyways and I had a long dirt road that I lived on.Sand and mud got up and around the exposed piston shaft,so they only lasted a couple of months.
No dust boot? Why? I bought excel g im scared now that I might have installed it without dustboot toom if its so important why didnt it came with dust boot
That’s a direct drop in replacement strut. There is no washer or top hat to install. The rubber that KYB uses got soft and gummy in 4 months. I swapped in oem upper mounts with the same exact setup with no issues.
I have the same thing on my driver side KYB mount - about 1 year after install which is nuts. Solved the issue by spraying AT-205 on the rubber. Spray, let it soak, spray again, let it soak. Repeat when noise re-appears.
@@tamourali8320 the KYB was a complete unit, springs and mounts all new in one package. The new KYB upper mount went bad in 4 months, got a whole new strut under warranty. That upper mount went out too. I still had the worn out Honda struts with the factory upper mount and I installed that. Still working.
@@RobertL78 never buy the complete assembly regardless of what brand it is. I always buy the coil springs separate and the struts seperate. It has always worked better that way
Not on a 2nd Gen. Why does the oem upper mount, from the factory, look exactly the same as this, just with stiffer/better rubber in the bushing that doesn’t flex?
I've never had these problems, you just installed it improperly. I took my 4Runner all throughout the country and beat it mercilessly without issue so this is your handiwork, buddy, not theirs.
The upper mount on the KYB went bad after 4 months. I had kept the OEM Honda struts and swapped the original upper mount to the KYB strut and it has been great ever since.
