The 7-Eleven stores began as improvised ice house storefronts in 1927 for the Southland Ice Company in Dallas Texas. As of 2015, Japan has more 7-Eleven locations than anywhere else in the world, where they often bear the title of its current holding company "Seven & I Holdings". Of the 54,210 stores around the globe, 17,009 stores (31 percent of global stores) are located in Japan, with 2,246 stores in Tokyo alone. On September 1, 2005, Seven & I Holdings Co., Ltd., a new holding company, became the parent company of 7-Eleven, Ito Yokado, and Denny's Japan. The aesthetics of the store are somewhat different from that of 7-Eleven stores in other countries as the stores offer a wider selection of products and services. Following the example of other convenience stores in Japan, 7-Eleven has solar panels and LEDs installed in about 1,400 of its stores. Great video! Thanks Kyde!! Patron Bob

@mahadragon
@mahadragon 9 лет назад
Dunno. I'm popping in and out of RU-vidrs all the time. I'm more into spirituality. I know this is not a subject a lot of RU-vidrs like to go into, but you can talk about your opinions on politics going on in America. Or maybe what the Japanese think about us or our politics? What do you think about Donald Trump? Would you vote for him as President? Some people will be pissed off and you would lose them as subscribers. But many would also be interested in what you have to say. I would probably stick by you through and through no matter what you said cause your story is fascinating.
@kydeanderic
@kydeanderic 9 лет назад
mahadragon Haha, I was half-joking about winning you back. I do the same thing where my interest focus changes and I watch new or different things. We really don't care to comment about political stuff going on in the states because we are somewhat disconnected from it and because it's just an absurd dog and pony show anyways. -Eric
@mahadragon
@mahadragon 9 лет назад
maybe you can talk about a word or an obscure Japanese phenomenon that doesn't exist in the United States? There are lots of them. I know there's a word for "love" in Japanese that does not have a direct translation in the states. A lot of words like "bokeh" are simply taken directly out of japanese language because there is no word for it in english language.

Well you blew me out of the water with this vlog! I already think Kyde is one of the most amazing and entertaining people in the world but to find out that she also loves 2 of my most fav shows, Mad Men and Nurse Jackie, makes an already amazing thing for me monumental! The dinners were really fun too! KYDE-Please, please, please do a vlog review of the series finales of both shows. It has been crushing for me to lose both in the same year b/c it's so hard to find shows I like. p.s. if you haven't seen the BBC/Netflix series, The Fall, check it out and let me know what you think. I'm pretty sure all the eps are on RU-vid.
@kydeanderic
@kydeanderic 9 лет назад
dmuze I already have the fall downloaded on a recommendation of a friend, so I'm glad to see you endorse it as well! I think I will start watching it now while I am doing comments! My thoughts on the endings for both shows. They kind of ended the same way but in opposite directions. Jackie just took herself down after she got some things sorted out and that was a really good ending to the show. It left you wondering and it didn't try to tie up a bunch of loose ends as quickly as possible, like Mad Men did. Mad Men's ending was pretty disappointing. It seemed like they were expecting to be on the air a lot longer and they had to clean everything up in too little time and the ending felt rushed and fake. Draper ended up meditating at the end??? I don't think so. Also, Peggy and the awesome guy getting together was great, but they made it really cheesy with the love phone call. I think that both last seasons were a bit disappointing and lacked good content. Oh, one thing about the last season of Mad Men was Betty getting cancer. That actually got me. Her actions and intention to protect people, but everyone letting the cat out of the bag behind her back, felt so real. I cried a bit! I am guessing that you have watched a lot of shows that I have watched, but here are some suggestions to fill your time! The Killing, Shameless (US), Orange is the New Black! -Kyde

honestly this was a great idea for a video! totally a kyde move, or did eric convince you play a trick on us? when i watched the first half and it got to the last day.. i knew something was up because you were acting different... regularly you would of done something like eric did and get something special specifically just to show it off on camera for your 7day challenge? thingy.. whatever these are..a week in the day of: featuring dinner :p but your poker face was spot on. i find japanese 711 so fascinating thanks to you two. i live in Canada so im sure US 711 is the same here as it is there. but it seems like Japan's on a whole 'nother level for effecienty of convienience stores. people always say around here that the japanese are like " in the future" or whatever because it seems their technology is better, or it came from there so obviously it would be there first then end up out west... but in 711's case, i hope this sterotype is true. why do you think there is such a big gap of quality of food and level of customer service at japanese 711s compared to all the other countries youve visited? what makes japan so special is what im trying to get at... love all your videos eric and kyde!! btw kyde you look gorgeous as always but youre always talking by dieting and working out! so i thought id mention it! ya you look magnificent lately :) and i like your choice of glasses aswell :) and eric i aint hittin on your lady, never will ok! LOL k bye thanks for all the laughs, tours, adventures, geocaches, and especially the thorough and DESCRIPTIVE food reviews.. some youtubers try to do what you do and fail. So keep up with your English Skillz Kyde!! :)
@kydeanderic
@kydeanderic 9 лет назад
ttrendxyz Thanks so much for enjoying what we do! There is a big gap between 7-11s here and elsewhere because of commitment to quality. Not only does 7-11 do it, but it's kind of a part of Japanese mentality. They tend to want to do everything to perfection! -Kyde

Oh man you totally had me fooled! I thought the better than 7-11 in the title was just in reference to past 7-11 dinner videos or something! I notice people are comparing the two weeks but really I feel Eric's was a more realistic view of everything he eats in an average week whereas Kyde's, though in the same vein, was more a challenge video and so they were each very much their own. That said I'd still love to see another. These videos are great! Maybe this time we could see what Kyde AND Eric eat for a week? Maybe done couple vlog style so it could cut between you both when you're apart for work or what have you and also give a day in the life feel? Anywho 10/10 for video as usual. Have a great weekend guys!

Since I've been to japan before and saw the awesome stuff they have at 7/11 I actually assumed you where eating convenience store food right from the first dinner you presented. You almost got me confused with the rice ball, but then you didn't know what kind of meat was in your own curry,and that was an obvious giveaway to cement my impression. But frankly, if I would be alone in japan...I wouldn't be cooking either, it's hardly worth the effort when it's just you alone who eats it. Great video!

I bet all the haters that said Eric's "stuff I eat for a week" was sooooo much better just hate granola for breakfast or something :P Also Japanese 7-11 is so much more awesome than the American version that even though they paid a ton of licensing fees when they started up, they became so much better and more efficient that they bought out the American company when it failed.

I started to write this before i finished watching it. If your intention was to show how well 7-11in Japan dose at providing well balanced nicely priced meals, well done. In the USA that is not something you will find. I laugh at the difference pricing if you want a limp weirdly plastic tasting veggie tray that has 4 baby carrots and 3 pieces or celery a bit of high sugar and fat dressing shriveled radish and 3 crackers 4.99 or 500 yen. What I would love to know is do you cook for yourself? I think you all are great, but understanding culture often is about understanding how people cook at home.We see so much of you eating fast food it would be nice to see your favorite home cooked meals.

Think it's even between 7-11 and home cocking. What I was thinking was for the soup. With lots of veggies it's good with crushed tomatoes, lots spices and olive oil. Rich in taste and full of flavors. Eggplants are mysterious. before I eat them I'm like ? and after I ate them I'm like ? But mix it with other stuff and then don't think about it works. They eat it a lot in the middle-east I think. Why? hm ?.

We always buy the 7-11 products at grocery store. We at first laughed about it then realized it's kinda a "name brand" "go to brand". Random question: why is it under the skin/batter most chicken here has a kinda slimy texture?

So I get what you're saying about Mad Men. It did seem like they ran out of ideas at some point. Mom loves Nurse Jackie and has watched everything. I LOVE Game of Thrones!!. May I suggest Archer, it's animated but funny as hell. And watch it from the beginning. There is the Star Wars cartoon series that came out a few years ago, and that is really good. A BBC one Call the Midwife, and an ITV one Downton Abbey. That should keep you occupied for quite a while. I love squid & shrimp chips. So what is the poster behind your head as you are eating the squid chips? Ah Japan you take 7-11 to a whole other level.
@kydeanderic
@kydeanderic 9 лет назад
TubaBuddha I watched the first season of Archer and it just fulfills background noise for me. I really enjoyed Downton Abbey for a bit, but I drifted off. Not sure why though. I really thought the concept was great! I was really happy to see the redhead from Downton Abbey in Game of Thrones! She's amazing! "You know nothing, Jon Snow!" The poster is of the Tokyo railway system! -Kyde

I have a habit of remembering things I should have mentioned in my main comment a day later... If you enjoy eggplant, you must try _Mirza Ghasemi_, which is a Persian dish that is awesome. It's my favourite food. Just a bucket of that and pile of pita bread and I'd be happy for days. The style I was introduced to didn't have egg in it, but often it does have one thrown in at the last minute.

TabbyAngel2 Me? No, I am a mix of various European ethnicities, I just live in a city where there are many authentic styles of cooking readily available, and also a tradition of embracing good food. The people of Montréal, Canada have always been foodies, long before anyone else was.

kyde, flatten that mushy eggplant down with a fork, then break and mix an egg in a bowl(salt to taste), dip the flattened mushy eggplant on the egg and fry it in a pan. A few minutes on both sides and you just made yourself an eggplant torta. Yummy and goes great with soy sauce.

The curry totally blew your spot up! I guess I'd know a 7-11 curry anywhere lol. Also - Nurse Jackie - are you kidding me with the drama on that show? There's definitely a hierarchy of konbini foods. 7/11 is probably tops, but Lawson is all right. I'm a little surprised how many basic items (i.e. not pre-made meals) you get from 7/11, though--aren't konbini prices higher than what's at the grocery store? Or is it just inconvenient to go that far out of the way?
@kydeanderic
@kydeanderic 9 лет назад
Jim Sullivan Usually the supermarket is out of the way, so it losses a bit of convenience. Supermarkets do offer pre-made meals but they are similarly priced, so you aren't saving any for going the extra mile. So, convenience stores really are convenient! -Kyde
