Dang Arnel's flat, and tired. I feel his pain. Love that guy. Singer's are mortal folks. Night after night after night, age eventually catches us, and the lofty heights of Journey vocals wait for no man. Vocal chords are flesh. They stretch. They tear. I know that pain personally and can tell you it is not pleasant to lose that superior ability. That's the wisdom of Steve Perry. He knew the time had come, and the ship had sailed. No fools errand for Steve and I respect him for it. Dream come true for Kyle no doubt. Good for him.
Nice comment. Been say'n that all along! Steve Perry was 28 when Infinity came out. He eventually knew it was time to say goodbye. Sad, but hey, I'm grateful for all they gave.😌
I agree 100%. I noticed it right away as well. And you’re exactly right, the vocals are tough for anyone at any age. He’s bound to get burned out. The band should see this and take a break. Might not be a bad idea to do less shows per tour as well.
This is something many vocalists don't understand. You have to be more careful with your voice as you age. Fergie Frederiksen was able to maintain more or less the same singing voice he had despite battling with cancer and ultimately being defeated by it. As per the "wisdom" of Steve Perry, you're looking at a guy that effectively destroyed his voice due to drinking and substance addiction and can barely sing these days. A better example of vocal longevity is Bruce Dickinson. His operatic training helped him preserve it and also maintain after recovering from a cancerous tumor found at the back of his tongue.
you're absolutely right. He sounds tired and sometimes out of pitch. I wonder if he had a good vocal coach. Much of what is wrong here I think could be solved with good technique, and I feel he sometimes just lets go and ...whatever!
@@MrRicardobotti Pretty sure they already solved it electronically. Arnel is genuinely a great singer, but today there are ways to make sure there's never a sour note. Not talking about recordings and such. It's really him, but with in-line electronic "adjustment." On the same note, Taylor Swift is not a very good singer a cappella. Really. There are snippets out there if you look
Well there are good nights and there are the tough nights! I can tell you, try playing Journey stuff with the energy these guys put out each night for 65 shows in a row and see how long you last!!! Thanks for posting!!
Our parents were friends, now you're friends with all my friends. I HAVE to see you play, all I've ever heard from my dad is how your dad is the greatest drummer there has ever been.
When I was in my 20's, singing this song was doable but tough. In my 50's....NO :) I Feel for him, Steve and anyone else in their late 30's, 40's 50's etc... still trying to sing Journey songs.
Schon"s very sustained pauses during his extraordinary runs are stellar. Also throws picks within not compromising tract, within timing. Age-14 extraordinary runs. Riffs much earlier.
I go see 30-50 concerts a year and singers are rarely on top of their game every single night. Arnel is still putting in a solid performance here. Most wish they could perform like this on any given night.
EXACTLY! It would fit in perfect with Jonathan’s “Apple doesn’t far from tree” angle and more importantly, would’ve sounded wayyyy better than Arnel. 🤦♂️
Arnel was sick that night. He only left the hotel to sing, didn't talk backstage, then left immediately to rest afterwards. I believe it was laryngitis is what deen told us. Arnel is awesome though, he still put %110 towards his performance. Trooper.
He was still trying to perform his best, you can hear it in his voice, he was struggling. All singer’s have experienced this at some point. I know how it feels. I fronted a band for 9 years and just couldn’t do it anymore. Did a reunion last year and even then my vocals were not as good as when I’d first started
The kids did a great job and I’m probably going to get a lot of shit for the next comment he sounded so tired singing and maybe he was because normally he’s never that far off pitch or flat however you want to describe it, I’m not looking for an argument , I think he’s a great singer it’s just not the best version of him singing this Dean absolutely kills it when he sings it plus playing drums! And again he may be extremely tired .
Fronting that band is an impossible task in the long term. Arnel did a great job as did Steve Augeri for a short while. Steve Perry set an impossible mark that he found that he soon couldn't achieve. It is probably time to find the next guy.
uh...Perry couldn't even come close to this even if he wants to nowaday. There's nothing wrong with Arnel's voice. It's the awful mixed! It still unfortunate to what happened to Augeri -
Alex Van Hagar Don't kid yourself. There is nothing wrong with this mix. What is it with you Arnel fans? None of you can admit he can have a bad night, because this is clearly one of them.
Luv that kit setup.DW makes not only some of the most bad ass kits visually, but definitely the most bad ass kits audibly,IMO....Although I prefer Sabian & Paiste cymbals over Zildjian, like he uses, the size/arrangement of that cymbal setup looks great too.Yeah I'd say you couldn't ask for a better headlining act than Journey to fulfill a dream of playing at least one time in the big time with.Obviously,it being his dad's band made it that much better. Its too bad this video & the other one that shows a behind the kit view of Kyle playing couldn't be edited so that the audio from this video could be used for the other one then it would be great. However I understand that the behind the kit video was mainly posted to see the interaction between Kyle & his dad Deen.So I get it.....
@wbrockstar9550 Have you seen the video where Steve Smith breaks down in great detail how he played this song on the original recording??? I'm not a drummer (bass player), but it's great!!!
Arnel, for once pls ask Neal to let you rest at least 5 days before the next performance..They cannot do this to you every day for 365 days. You need to hold on to your voice as millions of people admire you and would love to listen to you.. :(
Hardest song to sing In the world. At least top 10. Good Luck singing this classic. EVER TRY? Even Arnel is having a hard time, BUT ALWAYS CRUSHES. ARNEL NEEDS SOME HAIR PRODUCT TO LOOK LIKE ROCK STAR
Bummer...he does sound very tired and strained. Should not sing when sick. Steve Perry just had that endless power somehow. I have heard Arnel sound much better.
That was the worst joice Neal made by making that dude the lead singer. He's always off key and can't carry a tune!!! I quit going to their shows and stopped listening to journey since they picked him up! Journey always has been my favorite group, but they really could have picked someone a lot better for a front man!!!!!!!!
Wow that midget can't sing worth a shit! Sounds like Bruce Lee trying to speak English! Time for a new karaoke singer soon! And cover band! Anal sounds like he is singing through dick, at a glory hole petting zoo!
