Kyle Dean Massey performs Own My Own from the musical Les Miserables during his show Eclectic Broadway at SUNY Oswego as part of their KE-NEKT' Concert Series on September 18, 2012
He has a really lovely voice... and I love when men sing these songs and don't change the gender... most people sing this song like a pop song instead of acting it...
Brian Eduardo I totally agree with you. Aaron Tveit has done that too where he just sings the song as it is without feeling like he needs to change the gender pronouns. I appreciate that because there is nothing better than a beautiful voice singing a beautiful song just as it was written.
Same! Pronoun changing always feels so rude and disrespectful to the creator to me. When a singer doesn't have the confidence to sing the actual lyrics, it usually makes me (as the listener) feel embarrassed for them and the whole performance becomes cringey.
On my own Pretending he's beside me All alone I walk with him till morning Without him I feel his arms around me And when I lose my way I close my eyes And he has found me In the rain the pavement shines like silver All the lights are misty in the river In the darkness, the trees are full of starlight And all I see is him and me forever and forever And I know it's only in my mind That I'm talking to myself and not to him And although I know that he is blind Still I say, there's a way for us I love him But when the night is over He is gone The river's just a river Without him The world around me changes The trees are bare and everywhere The streets are full of strangers I love him But every day I'm learning All my life I've only been pretending Without me His world will go on turning A world that's full of happiness That I have never known I love him I love him I love him But only on my own
Wow! What a terrific performance. Whether it is sung as a love song by a straight or gay man, it doesn't matter. It is the emotion put into the performance by a great singer who acts his songs. What a talented and handsome young man Kyle Dean is. We are lucky to have him around the cabaret and Broadway scene these days.
Hi & Hello again from Oklahoma City; good god KD, ya just made me cry. How bloody beautiful; well done you. We here wish you the best of luck & future on Broadway. You have earned it and deserve it.
