That was one of my favorite episodes! I personally feel there was a lot of money being made and some people that were doing a lot of work behind the scenes were not getting much, or any in some cases. When we are talking about millions of dollars from the AVGN series im sure some people got screwed. Since the people that helped make AVGN what it was left, you can tell the quality has gone down. That's my opinion.

i must have seen those episodes over 100 times each. Two of my favorite AVGN episodes.

Very true. Look at jujimufu and tom... Tom was caught liquidating their co owned company for a personal habit. Ended up ending their friendship, and drug them both through court. At least with cinemassacre it wasn't so messy.

Ikari Warriors was pretty funny too. The outtakes were hilarious also.

Unfortunately it seems like Kyle was pushed into set construction vs. on screen support for the channel. That seems like a backward career trajectory to be honest... They could get anyone to do set setup

Yeah it's unfortunate... this kind of stuff happens when you work with your friends. The saying goes... keep friends/family separate from business!

@@jayartist_ could be screenwave... youtube dollars are still money, so they probably didnt treat the bootsy beats video any different than any of the other vids on the channel. That video doesnt have a sponsorship plug, so they plugged in over half a dozen ads to help make as much cash as possible. At this point damage with Bootsy is already done friendship wise, so they probably dont care if it means just getting paid more.

Right! Same for me... I took a huge break. So your seeing a huge rift in what the channel focus was originally and what it is now, right? That's what my impression was.

@@TheVintageGamer yah, I know some people really hate the change, but I don't mind it so much, I guess since I'm also a content creator I can see it from james perspective, my videos have changed a lot and if I had an editor it would make my life so much easier, I think people who don't make videos can't understand that

Kyle apparently requested for his likeness to not be used in the game so the skeleton joke was a good compromise considering the circumstances.

That's kind of what the news is, yeah; he has a renovation business, a wife, and THREE kids. That would keep anyone super busy to be sure. Plus he's probably making more money and getting to have more control then when he was a Screenwave consultant

Thanks for the comment! So it is kind of intense the reactions some have with this content, but I honestly was curious... and wanted to share research. Why not? It's all out there. Its no different than something happening at a company, and people wondering (why did that executive leave?). Different context, but same thought process.

Hes ghosted the planet as of 2017. James must have either bought the rights or it was only partially or non exclusively Kyle's. James apparently helped with the song development so it could have had cinemassacre talons in it

He works in a renovation company, I've also heard his wife is a doctor but I was unable to substantiate that. He is married though and has 3 kids (his twitter)

I did the same thing, left for a while and returned. Kyle left early 2017 like Bootsy and mike left a bit over a year ago. All the random bros are screenwave employees. I've heard they will have much less, to any onscreen time now though, it seems like it's just James solo for the most part at present

So maybe the relationship is still there... but then again Cinemassacre used Bootsy's 'Bootsy Beats' series, with 7+ ads, & Bootsy mentioned on his Twitter that he was receiving '0' official credit or cash for his old material (he was def. peeved). Could be the same with Kyle.

@@TheVintageGamer Yeah, that's my opinion on why they left. There is a lot of money being made, and will continue to be made with the content these guys helped create. For them to not get a cut of the ad money is Mike, and James taking advantage of their friends. Money makes people do stupid stuff. Mike came out and said they were paid, and im sure they gave them something for their work, but these videos dont make money once, they make money every time its watched, that's where they are getting screwed. Hard to say if they signed anything legal that they can use the material and im sure there is something around the money side in the agreement that leaves bootsy and kyle from taking legal action. Kyle specifically considering his song is on 90% of the AVGN videos. There was a time where he stopped using the song for an extended period. I wonder if a disagreement around compensation has anything to do with it. I guess i feel if my long time friends helped me create and continue to help me like the AVGN crew i would want them to share in the financial success too, but that clearly wasnt happening with James and Mike. Paying a friend a couple hundred bucks for you too turn around and make a living off what they helped you evolve and create seems really shitty to me. I'm sure we are talking about millions over the years.

@@cbrdealer so Bootsy was paid for board James , but he was paid for editing. Apparently he doesn't get any residuals. He also wrote a bunch of songs for the series and I'm not really sure how that is shaking out but he probably gets views on his RU-vid channel. I have a video on his social media presence and he really doesn't get a ton of views unfortunately. I think like you said Kyle and Bootsy get to go off and be happy with what they were originally given, while the channel continues to rake in ad Revenue. I would be pissed off if that were the case, and yes working with friends there are serious risks. Always have a contract on hand, people change moods very quickly and you don't see their true colors until cash is on the table

GREAT idea! Somebody also made a fantastic comment on another AVGN related video that James didn't need Screenwave, but he CHOSE to use them. Take for example the fact that James did a YKWBS video (with cell phone quality) from a number of years ago, and the video amassed thousands of views... with just the focal point being him talking about a desk drawer that pissed him off. No high quality editing.

​@@TheVintageGamer what made the first seasons of AVGN so appealing was the guerrilla, basement-made style and the authenticity of his childhood frustrations over shitty games (or he's such a good actor) When I watch the first few seasons he feels like a likable guy next-door, someone you can relate to. Now it's all acting, all money and commercials, no passion and no more friends. He got rid of all of them even though Mike made him and surrouned himself with business partners. Another factor is his age. It's hard to take a 40 yo playing video games seriously (although Mike is convinving because he doesn't look his age). All the good things come to an end but in my opinion he could preserve the old style if he played with Kyle, Bootsy and Mike and kept doing the videos in his basement/room and let them contribute with their own ideas.

April R is an art teacher from what I've heard. So they get bennies from her and James probably pulls in (or pulled in) more hard cash from cinemassacre and overall sales of the two, but she def has a more stable career. The kids piece is just a crutch I agree. Steven Spielberg has a family and he's still knocking it outta the ballpark (since the 60s!)

Hey, so you raise a fair point. I would have to add that Kyle brought more to the table than just the couch/guitar guy persona (& occasional character). He stayed (behind the scenes) longer than Bootsy (and was there since day one of the show), as a Screenwave consultant. He built the stage for the Keith Apicary Christmas episode, where they completely wreck the entire stage; but at this point it probably wasn't a lot of fun, and he was making more money renovating houses... plus he probably isn't as much of a nerd... so he left.

@@TheVintageGamer a year ago i was just like you searching about Kyle to know if he still there, because like always, there was a comment saying he died... So i investigated, didnt find anything because seems Kyle been out of the social media for a long time, but there was this reply on a comment also on AVGN video, from a dude that seems to live near there where Kyle works i think it's near where James also live, the dude even told exactly where it's is, it could be a lie but i believe him, we can find the comment but every AVGN video have like thousands of comments... But if what he said it's true we surely would see Kyle at least on the credits if he still working backstage

@@budaroddy thanks for the share. I'm painfully aware of comments (checking all of them is the bane of my existence on this channel lol). I wouldn't want you to have to dig for one on a video. So sometimes a comment will go up that might be heavily substantiated. The last kyle has been officially tracked working with cinemassacre was as a screenwave consultant in 2016 (possibly early 2017). He seems to have unfortunately left as his last twitter post was concerning the Keith apicary Christmas video in 2016. Also the new AVGN game has him as a skeleton. Screenwave seems to want to remove his likeness going forward.

@@budaroddy they deleted the proof!! Not the 1st time. What I can substantiate, Kyle works in renovation, and he has 3 kids (per his instagram). Somebody said he married a rich doctor, I wasn't able to find anything on that, but if true, that would make him doing his own thing even more believable.

And he's terrified Bugs Bunny will throw AVGN on the couch and break it again.
