You could also add watching the leaves on the tree tops, especially where you fly from as it’s gotta be in wind shadow as you probably find aloft!

Nice work! I like to use both a ribbon and a tube windsock. The ribbon shows the texture of the air really well, and the tube give a general sense of the velocity. Great job!! Keep up the good work buddy!!

Well done as always. Another good pole (In the Breeze Heavy Duty Telescoping Pole - 22-Foot ) on Amazon. Been using one for years for line kiting. Much Love and thanks for sharing!!!

Great vid Kyle! I use a driveway marker and bird scare tape, a total of about a three dollar investment and it’s one of the most useful tools in my arsenal 👍

Good stuff, man! I was wondering what I was going to mount my wind sock to. I've got a big whip antenna off a big fishing boat someone tossed in the trash years ago. I'll have to see how sturdy it is. Might bend around too much, but we'll see. It's pretty thick (TWSS). For $100, I'll start the drive down to LA from MA right now! I'll even give ya a $100 tip, too! 😁😁😁 Nice to meet your dad, there. 😎👍

i also use long ribbons. actually i think they are party streamers. i dont leave it outside overnight though. i like how accurate they are. you have to be consistent in size to be consistent in analysis.

Hose clamps would work well to secure the fishing pole to the metal stake. It would be easier to change out the pole should it need changing.

I had a buddy I flew with all the time, but now he has moved. I haven't flown since. Should I fly alone? What are some things to do if flying alone, and do you have any suggestions?

@@kyleoglee is there a super sensitive device, as I cant stand smoke smell and are always hunting for fresh smeel for camping. Was hoping for a sock that can tell me clean paths from others fire. I acualy trying to find the perfict position on moutian to avoid the most smoke from pu$ that have to burn to much wood for heat.

They do have proper tools available at HF, but these specific clamps are total junk. I bought 4, they all failed.

In this video you mentioned that the wind sock will point towards a nearby thermal. I was wondering if you could explain this in a little more detail. Do you mean that the tail end points towards the thermal or the connection point on the top of the pole points towards it? My first thought was that it could be the tail end pointing towards it because the thermal would be sucking up the air around it on the ground but I don't really know much about this and so if you could clarify this for me I would sure appreciate it. Great video sir and thank you for sharing.

Think of a thermal coming loose from the earth as a vacuum. As it goes up it draws air in from every direction, so the ribbons are being pulled towards it, away from the pole. I have a sweet weather video currently under production that will explain this phenomenon in detail.

I keep 2 in the truck, but only deploy multiple when it's thermic. 1 is plenty if a nice calm evening is upon us.

I couldn't see the ribbon to fishing pole attachment are you using swivel clips? Also you said you sew your own tube socks!? Can you just make a D.I.Y. channel please? 😁

I made a video of it one time, but the lighting was totally f'd up, and the video was unwatchable. Maybe I'll try again in my next one. I did sewing tonight, riser loop into my sausage bag.

There’s a much easier and a lot less time consuming way to do that. Buy a beach umbrella anchor from Amazon and twist into the ground and slide your wind sock pole into it.

2 part units in the past have been separated by accident, and left us with no good way to deploy. Some of the ground I stab is full of rocks or very hard. Deployment time has not ever been an issue, I'd wager a quick stab is much faster than twisting something into the earth, so definitely not less time consuming. But, I'll check them out. Could be the next sliced bread!

Gotta say that you went a bit overboard on the bottom bracing. These poles do just fine sitting inside of the spiral "sand" pole holders designed for installing your beach umbrella in the sand. I have had a similar pole for over a year. If the air is so strong that it blows over your pole in this holder, you don't need be flying anyway.

They usually get janked up by pushing/pulling into and out of hard earth. This was before I started putting the llittle pusher pedal on the base.

I'm going to attach a link to my propeller slice n' dice on here in the next day or two. Delete it if you don't want it on here or tell me & I won't include it at all. It's pretty good. I state that it was MY fault because I was careless.
