Kyle Petty talks about how Dale Earnhardt reacted following his son Adam’s Fatal Accident !!! 🏁 

All the major changes that came after Earnhardts death should have come after Adam Pettys.

I have 2 sons. As a longtime follower of Nascar and the Pettys the loss of Adam Petty set me back on my heels pretty hard. I don't think there is a single person on this earth who could have handled the loss of a child with the same level of dignity and grace as Kyle Petty. Not one. I once had visions of Adam Petty relighting the torch and helping to bring the Petty dynasty back to its proper place in the Nascar fold but that was not meant to be. This was very touching and thanks and respect to Kyle Petty for sharing.

Noticed Kyle was putting Hans on at the 2001 Daytona 500

I went to high school with Kyle’s kids and his sister taught at my elementary school. Even though they were “nascar royalty” they were completely normal down to earth people. When Adam died it was devastating.

I'm in the Dale Earnhart camp, I never know what to say. I can accept a "I'm sorry for your loss" condolence, I feel like I have to say more to someone else and can never come up with the words.

I remember seeing Kyle standing before his family to make that announcement and talk about Adam the way he did. You could see the heartbreak in that whole family. Kyle was solid, classy and dignified under the most difficult of circumstances. It doesn't matter how many wins he got, Kyle did so much for young people through Victory Junction and racing as a whole. He is the real deal. Much respect.

I just recently lost my dad. And I have a son who is a firefighter. And another son who is a construction worker. But no parent should have to bury their child. And what I remember from Kyle saying. Without Jesus he would go crazy. And I'm glad that he did have him. Kyle will see his son again. And his mama again. So bless Adam and Dale

Adam raced my son at the Tulsa Shootout when they were about 16 yrs. old. Serious competitors on the track, but between races they ran around together with a few other racers having fun. Adam was a good kid. Always had a smile on his face and enjoying his life. We were fortunate to know him a little bit.

I met Kyle a couple of years before this, he was and is one od the nicest people I have ever met in my life. Genuinely a great guy.

Will always miss Adam Petty. God bless him

As a Dad who also lost a son, some very close people it seemed completely shut me out but in reality they just didn't know how to approach me.

Was there working on Todd Bodines car, quietest I've ever heard a garage while getting cars ready for the race the next day.....had a small service in the infield scoring tower after the garage closed.....saddest day I ever spent at a race track.

Miss Adam. That was a tough loss.

God bless you Kyle. Can't imagine the burden and honor of carrying your name. I do know what it's like to lose a son (our only child) too soon. You've carried on in a loving and dignified way. I respect and admire that very much.

That day in New Hampshire was, without a doubt, the saddest day at a race track that I have ever experienced.

I cried for days after Adam passed. I felt stupid because I didn’t know him. His dad was my driver Adam was my up and coming driver . It was so sad. My grandson Kyle carries Kyles name. He was born in Dec of 2001. My grandson Adam was born in 2005…. I did get an Adam❤️ But I’ll never forget Adam Petty.

As someone born in 2002, just getting into racing... the amount of reading and learning I've had to do about this sport with such a heavy heart was unexpected. I just wish nothing but the best for Kyle, the Petty family, and all families affected by the losses of these gear-banging gladiators. None of them will ever be forgotten.

I will always remember being 8 years old, playing with toys in the living room and my mom watching TV and her saying “oh my god! I think they just said Adam Petty died!” It was a sad, sad day. Sadly that would be closely followed by Kenny Irwin, Tony Roper, Dale Earnhardt, and Blaise Alexander.

Man, I’m so sorry they went through this. May God continue to comfort them even now.

I have nothing but the upmost respect for The Petty Family. Always will. Four Generations in the same profession. God Bless them. The only other Four Generations in the same profession I can think of is Hank Williams, his son Hank JR, his son Hank The Third and his son Hank The 4th. That is some strong company.

I remember this like it was yesterday. Adam was good also, much better than his dad I believe. Then Kenny Irwin, who was another great kid who I met a couple times.

I think not only did Dale unknowingly see his fate and it had a hold on him.... it was that like he said such a similar family dynamic... and the hardest thing... was the guilt and weight of knowing it was Kerry that was the othet part of that accident.. not only could it have been his own son and or other son and was just would hold on like his shadow. Its in a way that Dale saved lives.. but also had that happened before Adams loss and the accident involving his son... the fact it had to be Dale.. like a sad understanding that the cost of one somehow needed the greater. He wouldn't have ever wanted it to be his children like it almost was. Death followed him after that tragedy... im almost more sad for Adam.. just beautiful.. you shouldnt outlive your children.

I've always thought that the saddest thing in life would be to outlive your children.

I miss Dale but man his reticence towards the HANS device was so stupid. I don't know if it would have helped in his crash but fuck it wouldn't have hurt. I was excited to see him transition to his sportscar career which he was doing.

I never had the opportunity to meet Kyle. My first time meeting Lee Petty was back in the late 1960s and again several years before he left us. I have also met Richard Petty several times. I also never had a chance to meet Adam Petty, but I had plans to attend the New Hampshire Motor Speedway race the day Adam left us. A sudden work emergency derailed my plans and I had to stay in Georgia. Weirdly I fully understand what was going through DE's mind after Adam left us. About 6 years ago a friend and Georgia Tech classmate lost his 16-year-old daughter to a drunk driver near Greenville SC. I made up an excuse to avoid her services and did everything I could to avoid him and his beautiful wife for several years. It just hurt so much to think about it. Many times while alone I would find myself crying. One day this man and his wife were sitting on a bench near my apartment door I knew I could no longer avoid them. I just hung my head and started bawling. Were OK today. All 3 of us have visited her grave many times.

Racing is a dangerous sport. All that someone can do is use the lessons learned to improve safety. It still bothers me after a wreck into the catch fence a few years ago that they think a piece of rubber touching them is unexeptable. Nothing is risk free

As a kid the first major deaths I remembered were Neill Bonnett and John Nemecheck Of course there were so many others and other series like Formula 1 had a long history of drivers dying. It's so sad that NASCAR couldn't learn a lesson from other forms of racing, like NHRA, and do more to protect the drivers. It took the death of it's biggest star for them to start making changes. Thinking about it that way, Dale saved so many lives. He knew something needed to change. He knew the cars of the time weren't as safe as other racing series. He complained many times that nothing was changing and that someone would die. Like Kyle said, no driver ever thinks it's going to happen to them.

What is the name of this documentary?

My Son was Born July 7th of 1980. Love NASCAR, but that call has to bring you to your knees. My Son is 43 now, and I respect Kyle for what he has done, because that is a hurt that will not heal.

It's stinks that Adam Petty and Dale Earnhardt sr died but they both went out doing what they loved racing
