As with Always Find the Time, Things Can Only Get Better could easily have been one of the lead singles off Rhythm of Love. Probably even before What Do I Have to Do. That guitar solo, the poetic chorus, the heavenly synth and the complete ability to really make things feel better! Early 90s at its absolute brilliance!
I think they should have released Better The Devil You Know, Step Back In Time, Always Find The Time and Shocked as the four singles. But this is a pretty good one
Not a big deal, but a “lead single” is a single that’s released *before* the album drops. That aside lol, I totally agree that it could have been a hit... I just feel like, had it been played on the radio back in the day, it would have become a classic Kylie song that people still know and love today. It just has an anthemic feel; euphoric; would make a great encore or set closer at a show. Especially the official remix (Greatest Remix Hits 4, I think)
This is her best album of all time!!! Rhythm of love is still my favorite. All the tracks are perfect , listening today after DISCO is still in my heart. After. 30 years . Thank you princess
I'm really surprised this wasn't one of the singles to be released off the album, this would've been a hit for sure! This is one of my favourite songs from Kylie, a real gem and deserves to be put out there so everyone can hear it!
@@dmhandy Completely agree! Glad you found it and discovered it for the first time. While it's not exactly a 'happy up beat' song in the song style, its actually a very positive song if you've listening to the lyrics. It sounds awesome with a decent sound system in your car or at home!
I'm just re-discovering Kylie's old albums, and this song sounds so much better than I remember. Back in the early 00s (I was teen) when I got all of her albums, I only liked Shocked and a couple more from her 1988-1992 early years. Now a few more have grown on me, but this one is just stuck in my mind. Sounds REALLY GOOD. And I have the Original Mix (I think it was included in the re-mastered album??) and it's really good too. Addictive.
The Original Mix if anyone's interested. Sounds so good. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JBIH5rDXM5I.html&ab_channel=KylieMinogue-Topic
@@JordiVanderwaal that version you are mentioning was 2nd! It served as the B-side of What kind of fool in 1992. This version is from 1990. They are both excellent, but in my humble opinion, I like this version, from the album in 1990. The 1992 version was a bit more house and dance orientated, but the 1990 version, is really impeccable, it should have been released instead of What do I have to do or shocked....
@@rickdeckard1075 it was the song that got me through coming out in 2005 as a middle school kid in the Midwestern US. I felt like nothing would ever get better and something was wrong with me or that my life would be one of dealing with loneliness and homophobic bigotry from others, and this song helped remind me that I had the courage to be who I really am - and that the only way things would get better for us gays was to be out and to be proud of it. Unfortunately things are backsliding rapidly in much of the world as right-wing assholes have realized that they can use homophobia and transphobia for political ends and even worse, people like Ron DeSantis are trying to erase our existence and our history. We only deserve freedom if we are willing to fight for it, and right now we have to fight as hard as we ever have or we will be forced back into the closet. For us, closets mean death. Sometimes literally, sometimes metaphorically. And we can't afford to let the forces of reaction push us back into the closet. Homophobia in the US only started to get less acceptable because so many people like me chose to come out to their families, friends, coworkers, classmates, and so on; and straight people were forced to realize that we exist and we're not the monsters that they were conditioned to think we are. One of my best friends, Will, a heterosexual middle class white soccer player in college, admitted to me that when he first met me on study abroad, he was a homophobe who had never known any out and proud gay people very well, but I changed him because we were forced to spend so much time together and realized how much we had in common. When we got back to our college, I found out that the reason I rarely went to his house was because his soccer player roommates were homophobes uncomfortable with me being around, and he actively told them "if you have a problem with me being friends with Matt, I don't want to be friends with you anymore." And he actively gave up most of his friends for me, which is to this day one of the most touching things anyone has ever done for me. In just 6 months, he went from being a homophobe to a truly incredible and strident ally to LGBTQ people and has remained so ever since. I went to his wedding last winter with my new boyfriend, the first truly serious BF I've ever had, and his current friends and family were utterly supportive and wonderful. So people can change, but only if we allow them to change and don't allow ourselves to hide.
"Things Can Only Get Better" Kylie Minogue [Verse 1] Make up your mind and don't believe It's bad news everywhere Take your time and look around Because there's something in the air There's a feeling that's gaining ground And everyone can have a share Don't miss your chance Take up your stance And just be sure that you are there [Chorus] It's in your hands now To change your fortune, to shape your future Be proud of yourself Remember, things can only get better [Verse 2] If you believe inside your heart Nobody's second class Every day's a brand new start What's past is past And if your dreams go nowhere Don't give up the fight Come with me and you will see It all looks different in the morning light [Chorus] It's in your hands now To change your fortune, to shape your future Be proud of yourself Remember, things can only get better If you're feeling you can't go on and You're lost and lonely and feel so afraid Remember, things can only get better [Instrumental breakdown] [Chorus] It's in your hands now To change your fortune, to shape your future Be proud of yourself Remember, things can only get better If you're feeling you can't go on and You're lost and lonely and feel so afraid Remember, things can only get better It's in your hands now To change your fortune, to shape your future Be proud of yourself Remember, things can only get better
