Hey Alex, I had lost your channel some months ago. I'm happy I discovered it again. I am Zambian watching you from Zambia, Africa. Keep on producing this content, we love your work.
Hi Alex, (from Oregon / USA)! Your Kymco AK 550 review is the most thorough I’ve seen! Great job! Thank you for going through all the features, buttons & dynamics of the 550, (you answered a ton of questions). Will take a look @ your other Kymco videos soon, wishing you the very best!
@@RideWithAlex Started watching your other videos on motor scooters we don’t have in the US, (or @ least I haven’t seen them)? You have a gift for providing great information regardless of what you’re reviewing. Thumbs up all ‘round!
Never saw better review!!! Thanks you just convinced me to buy this scooter 😊 First was honda forza my choice but with this package of extras kymco is the one
I've had this model for about a year, right when it was launched, and it's a very complete machine that adapts to various types of use and scenarios, at a relatively low cost.
I also din not feel it pull untill 70-80km/h more than a well tuned 300-400 cc. Did not expect it to be so easy to drive at 5 km/h ! Very stable in cornering! Good brakes ! Lovely windshield untill 100-110 km/h! Also did not expect it to be so easy at filtering traffic!
I have 8k miles on my 22 kymco ak550 . Have also owned a Burgman 400 and a 650. Along with 50+ motorcycles. It has a lot more power than the 400 and is small and lighter than the 650 . I just miss the amount of under seat storage on the Suzuki's. I've had a few issues with the ak550 but Kymco took care of it with no problems. Riding with a passenger is no problems, you can cruise at 70 mph very easy. If i can get the Premium before Honda gets the ADV X in the US i will trade up. Since I'm getting older the kynco is much easier to maneuver and ride than my Honda AT or old Kawasaki Voyager . Generally I get 50 mpg which is pretty good for the way I ride.
Hello Alex! Thorough review, I liked it very much. Could you do such a review of all of the scooters every brand please?😊 That would be awesome! Be bad and do roadtrips, all the best!
Good review, thank you. I do believe the AK550 is a T-Max competitor. They are similar conceptually. What I do not like is the belt drive to the rear wheel. It means extra maintenance. But the T-Max has this issue as well. And I'm still wondering whether a top maxi scooter like this can replace my R1150RT. To me, image wise it cannot and I prefer the way you can ride slowly on a non automatic motorcycle, using the friction zone and the back brake. Then again a maxi scooter is a lot easier to push in and out of the shed... And, of course, storage space and fuel economy is awesome.
Marvelous scooter. Seen this clip, have a bad feeling selling my old Grand Dink 250. Why I've got the feeling that you did trip to Sofia for the moto expo there /here/. You did it suspiciously at the same time 😀 .. We will waiting for material from that trip.
Good evening Alex. Always your reviews are nice and you are a cool guy. I have a question please. What about the quality of the plastics and the total quality of the scooter? I have a Forza 350 and I was thinking for something with more horsepower. In terms of quality what do you think about this change? A friend from Greece.
I test rode this bike. It does behave like a motorbike. What i found disappointing was how little storage it has compared to the smaller capacity bikes
Because of the way the engine and transmission has to be mounted for it to behave like a motorbike you lose some storage space. Look at it from a different perspective, the storage space is much bigger then on any motorbike.
Hi Alex. Could you try the QJ Fort 400 ? I just saw it a week ago. Sat on It and It was so comfortable. Súper equiped, faster than Sym GT 400, It seems and just 5.500 €...1.000 € cheaper than the Sym...Quality seems Very good, aftercreading comments...Wgat do you think ?
Can you please explain why they say in the specifications that weight for the rider, passenger and other stuff is only 165kg? Is that true? If yes then why? Yamaha Tmax has 196kg , my ADV 350 is 186kg and so on. Even my HD Fat Bob is 175kg. Don't understand why Kymco has such low values across the range 😞
I ride one, I weight 82 kilos, my wife 58. With the two on no problem. The other day my brother in law came, he weights another 80 kilos or more. We bottomed the suspension on some uneven road and his slippers went flying on the rebound. This scooter also is not very swifty in acceleration because of the CVT. Specially if you want to overtake if you are doing 30- 40. The display is very difficult to read in full sun (well in full sun is useless). It's also very heavy and I don't find it easy to go around cars at low speeds because of how long it is. For city riding something smaller and lighter is better. It's very comfortable though. I have losen the rear end a few times (no traction control on mine) but it was very predictable. The rear disk is not brembo and wears off way too fast compared to the front one.
Hello.. the previous ak models suffered from all kinds of electronic problems and therefore the reliability is not the highest.. compared to the tmax which has a very high reliability.. do you think the new ak premium model is better than the new tmax 560?
"sport mode no traction control will do a burnout." Cool. But will it wheelie? (I understand that you don't want to abuse Kymco products on video..... But that immediately came to mind.)
I'm not a wheelie guy and nearly dropped my GS when I did a baby wheelie but I think in the right hands it would do a wheelie. You can't pop the clutch but you can make it to jump up.
According to all the tests and opinions of mechanics and owners, the tl508 is like a simple tmax, a strong engine for sporty riding and high reliability, ak550 primume is equipped with a lot of electronics and more complex assemblies but a low level of reliability and is not strongly recommended.
I do have the BMW C650 GT which was built here in Berlin with a 650cc Kymco engine in it. Seeing this video, I think both machines are very simulare. The C650 is heavy, not easy to handle for someone with not enough strength. And the exhaust pipe sounds more like a motorbike than like a quietish scooter. Anyhow, I got used to the sound. Just did a round-trip from Berlin to Latvia and back. From Danzig to Memel roughly 800km in one day. Sits easily on 140-150km per hour on the Autobahn. From this point, I would have no hesitation recommending this Kymco AK 550 or the BMW C650 Gt. Both are very nice machines, it just comes down to personal taste. If looking for used ones, buy the BMW C650 after the update, (2015?), recognizable on the two-er exhaust pipe, not the single squarish exhaust pipe of the earlier models. Alex I trust 100%. I just bought a Sym Joyride 300 16 on his recommendation, did not even test drive. Drives perfect, nice little machine. Kind regards to Romania!
I had one for 5 weeks and then resold that crap of a " bike " , so do NOT come and tell me how good this joker is . Get a second hand burgman 650 and then you will see how good a maxi scooter could be . 🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕
