This is the one and only video showing the sandal in its fully opened position. Bravo. Birkenstock's website doesn't even show it and believe me, I've been looking....for days. Thanks for that. Loved the video as the Arizona, Lugano and the Kyoto are the 3 sandals I've been trying to make a decision on as a gift to my brother. His feet swell from time to time so these were my picks as they are really adjustable. Not sure about the Lugano though as I haven't seen that one fully opened yet.. 🤣. But from your video I think I've made the Arizona my choice. Thanks for your help. Sizing info was a factor also as you've outline in the video which helped in my choice. Thanks again. 🥰

I agree--I've got a pair of suede Arizonas and they drive me crazy because they flop down and are hard to put on, whereas my nubuck Arizonas are just always there waiting for me to slip my foot in. My Kyotos are mostly okay but sometimes they are sinking down and makign it harder to put on. So I'm very pleased, and surprised, to hear you talking about this. I was going to buy a second pair of Kyotos but I think I"ll buy Arizonas. I also discovered how much better the medium/narrow wideth fits. I didn't realize the width was so important.
I made just an copy of these Kyoto Model Birkenstocks myself. Not as pretty as the originals but they are by far the simplest design to make as DIY at home. You know what these Kyoto style design is only? It is only the same or very similar shape of the upper as the Arizonas only without the cut out in the middle (as for 2 different stripes). If you draw the upper on a paper of the Arizona model as a whole, that gives you allmost exactly the same upper shape as the Kyoto upper is. The uttermost simplicity. Just draw the Arizona upper and leave it as is without cutting it out in the middle. Presto! thats the Kyoto upper with an additional leather strip for the velcro reinforcement. My replicas are super good fitting and way more comfortable than any other model of Birkenstock. The Kyoto model protects your upper foot way better than any other model. The Kyoto is my preferred model. I made the Kyoto copy as well with leather but only genuine leather and I put a bit more velcro in the 2 underhalfs in order to allow for more adjustment. Mine do not cave in and stay as is ready to use. Since I used genuine cow leather. I bet these Birkenstock makes in 10 Minutes tops and the Kyoto model uses not more leather than the Arizona since you do not throw away any leather pieces you cut out afterwards (as in the Arizona model) which the customer pays as well. So at the end these use a bit more labour since they sew on the velcro which is an dedicated step (I sewed on the velcro as well with my saddlery leather machine with Tex 135 bonded Nylon thread) and takes a bit more time. Birkenstock stamps the uppers out in one pass. The upper velcro strip they rivet on which is an economization. But they did not put any buckles so they saved themselves lots of money with that using only velcro. Velcro is a cheaping out solution and will be not nearly as durable as any high quality Birkenstock buckle. They saved on material butt used a bit more labour for the sewing. The rest is equal in materials and labour from the Kyoto model to other models. So these could cost as well as much as other models. I like the Kyoto model the best since it is so darn simple to reproduce, protects better than other models and is more supporting the upper foot.
There is also the Zurich, which is basically the Kyoto but with buckles instead of velcro. The Zurich is actually a really old model going back to the 70s, the Kyoto was basically a newer variant. Both are quite nice, although I prefer the buckles.
@@drygnfyre I found a way better alternative to Birkenstock. That is the so called wooden clogs. Those are made in Sweden, Holland mostly and some as well in Austria and England. The most ergonomically slippers I ever wore. They roll to the front. I ordered 2 of them from eBay both swedish made.
I got the Arizonas a few months ago, and I love them! They are my first pair of Birkenstocks! I'm binging Birkenstock videos right now haha. I think I'll buy a pair of Kyotos...

A lot of long-term Birkenstock wearers dislike the soft footbed because it starts off softer and more cushioned, but then gets worse over time as it breaks down. Whereas the standard footbed is the reverse: starts off harder and a bit less comfortable, but molds better and lasts longer. The soft footbed also adds a bit of height and that in turn impacts the overall width. It's minimal but if you already have a bit of tightness at the sides, the soft footbed can make it worse.
Small correction, only top strap is nubuck leather which is kinda brushed thick leather, and bottom straps are just suede. :) I have nubuck birks and they're great at holding their shape and don't attract as much dust and stuff
I JUST saw those! I feel like those will stay upright as well so they don't collapse in. I have about 4 pairs of different Birkenstocks I am about to review and upload
The difference between this pair and the $220 one is that the entire midsole on the more expensive pair is lined with leather. The wider straps are still suede, but the narrower fastening strap is also suede, instead of nubuck. I ordered them recently so I’ll see if they’re any good lol
@@Striker50_ just got the black pair in, they don’t feel any different than I was expecting, except maybe the footbed being smoother than your average pair of birks. What I didn’t notice online is that the sidewalls are actually suede, and not smooth leather. On feet, they just look like I have 2 foot casts on though😕 P.S : Don’t know if you just chose not to show it in-video, but I also received an envelope with a sticker, receipt, and a card promoting their Instagram page. P.P.S : it seems like the straps can maintain their form if you *really* strap them down to your feet before taking them off, but the material is no more stiff than the ones you have
I got this one with stone coin with black strap on it. Bought them only 74.79 usd with the box and paper, such lovely price haha lol. Im from indonesia this is second brick i haved. The other one is bend low khaki suede pretty cool. Im comfy with birkenstock due to my wide foot. If you want to buy cheap new birken just come here i will give you the marketplace.
Thanks for the video. Did you feel any difference in walking compared to Arizona's? The Arizona's move well with the foot and feel more stable . Haven't tried kyotos so wanted to know Thanks in advance😊
The Arizona's comfort wise are hard to beat once they're broken in. There is more strap adjustability with the Kyoto's but the sandal does cover more of your foot so it can be a personal preference if that makes sense. I personally wish the Arizonas had one more hole so they're slightly more snug. Can always punch in my own hole of course
How long is the breaking period for the regular sole? I got the Arizona since like two weeks and hmm ... my Adidas Adilette Comfort are still far far better in terms of comfort... 🤔
Hey Paul! You can expect the break-in period to be anywhere from a weekend of wearing to a month. It all depends how often and long you have them on,so more time wearing, they break in quicker. Agreed, the CloadFoam sandals/ slides are like sponges, I use mine for around the house and the pool when I swim, but the Birkenstock Kyotos are much more stable on the foot. So more stiffness and stability from the Kyoto in comparison to the Adidas slide, I love them both, so if I went out for a decent amount of time, I'd want something more stable like the Birkenstock. All comes down to personal preference of course 👍
Sheeeesh how bad is it? There are nubuck cleaner kits, I have an UGG one I bought years ago, I briefly show it in my other Birkenstock video You can try warm water with LIGHTLY diluted soap, and blot it. Rubbing can distress the open leather Be sure to check out videos on how to clean suede/nubuck also
it's an easy pass for me. I like my slippers to be a "slip on and ready to go." They gotta be of a material that can withstand wear and tear and not get discolored over time. Would like to thank you for your review!
@@Striker50_ ,… I disagree, there is something about opening a frigging box that captures the attention of viewers? Seems strange to me. I understand why the creator does it. The longer he/she captures the viewers the more points he gets with RU-vid and advertising dollars. When I see an unboxing I advance around it, or better yet, I don’t choose the thumbnail from my search and select others instead.

Some people also like seeing the way the package is presented because some people want to buy these as gifts and want to know what the presentation is like and what comes inside and what the experience is like. If you watch this whole review it's much more than just an unboxing
