Très jolie représentation. Emma Matthews formidable. Lakmé est un opéra magnifique malheureusement trop peu joué. Un grand merci à l'Opéra de Sidney et un grand merci pour le partage.

Quest’opera - che vede il grande soprano di coloratura Emma Matthews nei panni della sacerdotessa indù Lakmé e l’eccellente tenore Aldo Di Toro in quelli del suo innamorato Gerald - è incentrata su una storia che prende in esame l’incontro tra religioni e culture diverse sullo sfondo dell’India governata dagli inglesi nella seconda metà del XIX secolo. Il direttore francese Emmanuel Joel-Hornak riesce a esprimere i significati più reconditi di questa partitura dai tratti molto drammatici, che raggiunge il vertice nel celebre Duetto dei fiori e nell’Aria delle campanelle. Dominica Matthews interpreta con il suo ricco timbro vocale il personaggio di Mallika, Stephen Bennett incarna con il suo fascino tenebroso il bramino Nilakantha, padre di Lakmé, mentre Roxane Hislop dà corpo con grande sapienza teatrale alla Signora Bentson. Le scenografie e i costumi di Mark Thompson riempiono il palcoscenico di colori accesi e di una calda atmosfera esotica, che viene esaltata al massimo grado dalle luci di Nigel Levings. Es una de mis debilidades. Y pocas veces se habrá visto en una ópera a los protagonistas besarse tantas veces como en esta versión, lo que le da mayor credibilidad en medio de una escena,, tal vez, con demasiado tufillo a cartón-piedra. Sí, y a mí también me cuesta entender tan pocas representaciones de este título. No sé, quizás sea por la falta de auténticas sopranos de colatura capaces de cantar el difícil papel de Lakmé.
No tiene fisuras es tan bella Delibes es un compositor extraordinario su música es única,propicia para el romance y por supuesto que mejor que los besos como un acto culmine
La mejor opera en mi oopinion esta opera de delibes me cautivo bastante en especial el duo de las flores del acto uno entre lakme y mallika gracias maestrazo por subirlo abrazos y bendiciones
Ho visto questa rappresentazione dell'opera tantissime volte, ed è la mia preferita, anche se devo dire che è un'opera pochissimo presente su youtube. E' l'unica opera che conosco di Delibes:mi piacerebbe poterne vedere altre. Qui la scenografia è coloratissima, gradevole, molto accurata, nei minimi dettagli. I cantanti sono tutti eccellenti, soprattutto la soprano Emma Mattews ed il tenore italiano: mi piacerebbe vederli in qualche altra opera. 🥰💔💔💔
Oh my gosh this is a gorgeous opera thank you for uploading it and what a pleasure to listen and watch it. I’m afraid to say that I doubt a production of it would ever be put on simply because of its cultural connotations with colonialism but it would be a shame, maybe a concert performance with some great singers to give it justice. But otherwise I wonderful treat for all of us opera lovers starved of live performances. The music, arias, duets simply gorgeous and Emma Matthews what a star performance.
Emmanuel Joel-Hornok, direttore d'orchestra dà senso, veridicità e stile alla musica di Delibes. Emma Matthews nella sacerdotessa indù Lakmé è una splendida soprano di colore e musicalità impressionante, ben accompagnata dal tenore italiano Aldo Di Toro nel suo ufficiale Gerald. Sfortunatamente Mallika è cantata da una voce soprano, quando deve essere un mezzo soprano. Le scenografie e i costumi di Mark Thompson presentano, forse, l'eccesso di colori vivaci. It is a kind of fake exotism that was very much in vogue in Europe in the late 19th century. People didn't know what real Indian music sounded like, and they didn't care. But Delibes came up with the most wonderful melodies for his opera. I also think there's a mistake in the Bell Song where the text goes "Vishnu, the son of Brahma". I don't know much about Indian religion but I thought Vishu and Brahma are one and the same god, aren't they?
I afraid not. Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva are the Trinity in Hinduism. Brahma creates the universe, Vishnu nourishes it and Shiva is the destroyer. Indian mythology has several versions. In some of them Brahma creates Vishnu. Vishnu and his Avatars (Lord Rama, Lord Krishna etc) are the most popular deities. Sometimes even Lord Buddha is considered as an Avatar of Vishnu. Shiva, although destroyer, is a very adorable god, an iconoclast, a weed smoker and a passionate lover, a Yogi. He only destroyes things when he is angry (when something is needed to be destroyed). People hardly worship Brahma as he has been cursed by Shiva. These tales have no end. There are numerous versions, some of them are countering each other. I have told the most popular and granted stories.
@@soumyadipray1502 Thanks for explaining it. So it seems that calling Vishnu "Brahma's son" is not entirely wrong after all. Someone told me that the writers of Lakmé's libretto made a mistake so I believed this person. I'm sure that for the French audience in 1883 it didn't matter that much anyway. They just wanted to hear beautiful music and Delibes did not disappoint. Lakmé is my favorite opera of all times.
Bravo à Emma Matthews pour sa belle Lakmé, vocalement parfaite, et agréable a regarder...Idem pour la Mallika de Dominica Matthews (sont-elles soeurs?)...En ce qui concerne les hommes; je serai un peu plus réservé par rapport au Nilakantha de Stephen Bennett, au Frédéric de Luke Gabbedy, et au Gérald d'Aldo di Toro...Ce dernier n'est pas sans qualité, bien au contraire, mais une tradition que je croyais essentiellement française, veut que le role de l'officier de l'armée anglaise soit confié à des ténors légers, et souvent trop légers...ce qui affadit un role qui certes demande au chanteur des nuances et quelques jolies demi-teintes...Mais exige aussi une autthentique voix d'opéra-comique, une voix bien timbrée, solide, l'équivalente de la voix d'un autre soldat, le Don José de Carmen...Des ténors comme Tokatyan, Jobin, Gedda, Kraus, Liccioni s'y sont merveilleusement illustrés... La production est chatoyante, comme les costumes, les choeurs et la direction d'orchestre sont excellents...
