I used to fly L-188's at Hawaiian Air Cargo, and Zantop many years ago. Also P-3's in the Naval Reserve at the same time. I loved it all. This video brought me back, thank you for posting.

The B + C Orions had roughly the same engine as the H model Hercs (same power) the Orion fuel capacity was thereason for that. They were pretty damn quick (for a prop a/c) with lower fuel loads.
@@glennmcc64 My Dad the Braniff A&P liked Electras because if the pilots ran a jet off into the mud and sank it it was "Call Belger Cartage" (the guys with cranes and shovels). But an Electra off in the mud would usually "Fly itself out" by dropping full flaps and using just a fraction of the available wind over the wing from those nice turnine powered propellers !
Why, way back when I was a boy... my grandmother would fly with us to Florida from Michigan and back later, 1st leg of trip was a DC3 (North Central), Battle Creek/South Bend, O'hare, then we'd get on one of these, or a Super Connie, O'hare/Atlanta/Tampa/Miami or Ft. Lauderdale. The Electra made my teeth vibrate, it was loud in there. Then the airlines phased them out, we flew jets from then on.
