For the empty slot: Detroit Become Human. 1. It’s a great game 2. You’ve only done one other choice game 3. It’s about 12 hours, which would fit in your timeframe well. 4. Do I have to beg?

FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION You want genres that are underrepresented on the list? How about 3 amazing roguelike games in 3 different genres: a survival game, an FPS game and a 2D side-scroller. - ‘Have a Nice Death’ is a fusion of Hollow Knight’s tight combat and beautiful 2D artwork with Hades charming characters and run variety. All packaged in a delightfully cartoony depiction of a chaotic afterlife in the style of a corporation. - ‘Gunfire Reborn’ is best described as if Overwatch was a roguelike. All of that good-feeling movement and combat with a cohesive set of synergistic characters, weapons and upgrades that create an infinitely replayable and addicting masterpiece. - "Don't Starve" is a captivating and immersive survival game that offers players a rich and challenging experience set in a unique and stylized world. Dense world, deep lore and unparalleled creative freedom are just some of the things that make this stand out as one of the best survival games ever made. If any of these sound interesting to anyone I encourage you to search up a gameplay trailer and do some more research. Each and every game here is a highly recommend!

A game I would recommend for the empty slot would be Rainworld it’s a survival platformer Metroidvania ( kind of like hollow knight. I think Joe would love this game) but the twist is you are at the bottom of the food chain with many more animals above you. It’s simulated ecosystem feels like a feel world and I’ve seen no game do anything like it, it also has a DLC that adds basically another games worth of content. I will warn you it’s a very difficult game and doesn’t give you any direction on where to go. Here’s the steam description. You are a nomadic slugcat, both predator and prey in a broken ecosystem. Grab your spear and brave the industrial wastes, hunting enough food to survive, but be wary- other, bigger creatures have the same plan... and slugcats look delicious. Hope this might persuade you guys to check it out!

One of my favourite games of all time would be Life is Strange 2, it feels very looked over because of how much people loved the first one. The second one is really great stuff and doesn’t rely on needing to know anything about the first game as it’s a separate story entirely

It's actually quite funny at 54:30 when Oli says everything around LA Noire is poison and should be scrubbed away when even Rockstar who assisted during development and initially wanted to make Team Bondi a sort of sister studio didn't want to work with Team Bondi after LA Noire due to its management, and its headline MotionScan technology is largely forgotten. Also, on Cole Phelps being kinda awful, throughout the game suspects ask if Cole Phelps has a warrant and Cole always disregards it. After Portal 2, if you guys want a try better realistic detective game try Sleeping Dogs, it's about a undercover police officer infiltrating a criminal Triad in Hong Kong with martial arts. If you want to go Indie, try Shadows of Doubt

Games that might be fun for the extra spot might be either psychonauts or paper mario the origami king Psychonauts is still such a unique and special game to this day, investigating people's minds through video games is a concept that explored in so many cool ways, also after LA noire something might hearted (generally) and weird would be a nice palette cleanser for you Origami king is a bit different as it is at it's best after the first chapter but all of is solidly fun even the beginning, the beginning chapter is just a bit generic, also even if you don't end up liking the game the soundtrack might make up for it, it's another (generally) light hearted and occasionally weird game but it has a charm to it in a way

if you guys are looking for a game to play check out either of the kindergarten games they are really funny and you can get very cheap on steam. another suggestion would be the dadish series which are 2d platformers that you can get on absolutely everything including mobile. love you guys and thanks for another great ep, super excited for dredge and portal 2!!

Watching this does make me appreciate Phoenix Wright even more! I fell in love with that world last year, and while I skipped out on this one, I feel like I wouldn’t enjoy it at all. The “cozy game” genre is one I’ve been enjoying getting into more recently. While I’ve been a long-time Animal Crossing fan, I recently picked up Palia (which is free!) on the Switch to play with a couple of friends. It combines elements of Animal Crossing with making a house and exploring like in Breath of the Wild, and the orchestral soundtrack is really good. It could be an interesting look at something totally different for the channel, if it sounds interesting! Can’t wait for all the upcoming titles! Loved watching your Portal 2 content, and I’m excited to see you guys dip back into that world again!

If you want an actually great detective game to plug into that free slot - highly recommend Professor Layton and the diabolical box Alternatively- I absolutely had a blast with Pacific Drive, open world survival driving game, or if you want a bit of a classic, Shadow of the colossus would make a brilliant fit on the list! Great episode guys, I do agree with everything you said, but wasn’t expecting to have a new contender at the bottom!

If you have a free slot I’d highly recommend The Quarry for a good throwback survival horror (sorta in the Telltale Games spirit) or Ori and the Blind Forest- it’s a super great game that would be awesome if you covered it as there’s not many Metroidvanian games on list aside from HK.

Hey boys! I didn’t expect you guys to hate this game quite as much as you did, but I’ve only ever seen CallMeKevin play it. I guess he must have rlly elevated the material :P Anyway, I feel pretty well-represented on the list by Edith Finch, so I’ll abstain from suggesting any games. Lots of great suggestions in the other comments tho! Hope to rejoin the discord by this fall or so, we’ll see. Thanks for the ep 🙏 lots of love ✌️

Have y’all ever heard of Shin Megami Tensei? It was the original creature collector featuring characters from myth and mythology and predates pokemon by almost a decade. It has more of an emphasis on story though with multiple endings based on the choices you make. The series has a new game releasing in June this year if y’all are interested

i'd highly recommend checking out the indie game Before Your Eyes, its very short (just over 2 hours) which maybe is a nice break from all the long games you've played recently, its main mechanic is that your blinks (via webcam) cause time in the game to jump forward!

Totally different to anything on the list - old SNES game called Cool Spot. You play as the red 7up spot 😂 Great music and epic bonus levels. Overall, just lots of fun!! A second idea is Chicory on the Xbox, which has very creative gameplay and interesting story.
@OllieDust
@OllieDust 7 месяцев назад
I think one of Oli's comments towards the end of the video sums it up. 'It's like you're playing something made to make you mad'. The thing in my opinion that holds games back is that they're meant to be fun and the fun-nes of a game in a large part determines its quality. Conversely a film can be the most unfun thing ever made and yet still be extremely good. My first thought would be something like Schindler's List. Now, L.A Noir's quality is certainly all over the place but it seems at least they were trying to go with that film-like idea of making an unfun story that's extremely emotional and thought provoking. Even if the main characters' writing and the gameplay were better I don't think the game could achieve what they were going for but it would be interesting to see a spiritual successor that tries it again.

a game i cannot recommend enough is Ghost of a Tale! to describe it quickly without spoilers, it's an indie, story-heavy, stealth/puzzle, fantasy game, where you play as a little mouse trying to break out of jail in a fortress run by rats. it's available on steam and switch, maybe other consoles as well that i'm forgetting. the game looks gorgeous, with just the right blend of photo realism and expressive storybook-like character designs, the world building is detailed and intriguing, and the story made me cry. it's not very well known, but i think it deserves so much more attention, and i would love to hear your thoughts about it!

a game i would love to see in the empty spot is persona 4 golden, I don't believe there's a jrpg on the list yet so this could fill that hole. it would be a super interesting game to discuss due to how just insane the story is would probably make a really good episode

Finished the podcast and came over to give my recommendation. If you haven’t played it the splatoon series is very good. I would call it the most innovative and creative shooter game to come out in the last decade. If you’ve played it I would recommend Wandersong. It’s a cute story based indie game about a bard who sings they’re little songs to make people happy :). Love the podcast, excited for more :p

To fill the gap, I would recommend Lego City Undercover. Lego games are big thing you haven't done yet, and this one is my oersinal favourite but also isn't tied to a franchise like batman or marvel so I think it's a good one to just get the gist of what those games are about

I'd always assumed this was a groundbreaking game, and i was the weird one for not jiving with it when i watched a playthrough. I had no idea the development was so abusive though :/. For detective games, I personally would love to see a Professer Layton game! Tangle Tower, Grim Fandango, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter or any of the Batman: Arkham games! For other games, really any modern Nintendo games. Maybe the Luigi's Mansion 2 or The Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door remakes coming up! Take care!

Bloody hell, didn't expect you to reach this conclusion. I agree with a lot of what you say but when I played it recently I tried to imagine that it would have at least been pretty groundbreaking at the time and worth playing. Have you ever thought of playing The Crew? It is a racing style game with a crime themed story set in a scaled down rendition of America. Unfortunately they are shutting down the servers permanently on March 31st 2024 and you won't be able to play it after that so It's probably too late to start now.

A great game you should play is Sleeping Dogs, set in Hong Kong you play as a police officer who infiltrates the criminal underworld. It's such a good game and I have such fond memories of playing this game as a kid. It has very good fighting and the story is quite well done too. Also, I think that L.A Noire is honestly such a terrible game that I regretted ever touching it lol.
