Here is Part One of my rendition of LA Woman from The Doors. I put this song up back in June and some people asked if I would provide a tutorial on my version. So here's Part One. Please finish teaching this song. I'm 51-years old and was just diagnosed with stage-four colon cancer. My doctor says I have a 13% chance of living another five years. I'd like to learn your arrangement of "L.A. Woman" before I kick the bucket. Doing so would get my mind off the constant dread and the physical pain I feel. Also, I'd videotape my performance to leave behind for my relatives. I know we all have our problems, but I just want to change my mood from sad to gladness. Thanks for reading my morbid post!

Wow that is a hell of a bit of news to get from your doctor. Really sorry to hear that and wish you god speed and living well past your doctor's best case predictions! Thanks man , such a great lesson. I've seen Corey and others play this and tried to get it down but struggled with a lot of the finer details. I'm not proficient enough to get this from someone playing full speed so for you to explain it patiently at a speed i can comprehend is invaluable to me. Your version suits my playing style more than Mr. Corey Heuvel's does. PLEASE finish teaching this when you have the time! By the way, I love the look and sound of your cherry sunburst Epiphone. I'd like to get the 12-string version some day.

Taking note of your opening vocals - “I did a nickel (?) down about an hour ago…” - I felt the need to comment. I have listened to Jim Morrison sing those lyrics for decades (at normal and slow playback speeds) and cannot accept “just got into town about an hour ago”. It makes me cringe. Whether Morrison originally wrote those words , he certainly did not record them as such on LA Woman. I hear Jim loosely saying “I did (or dig) a little down”. It’s not surprising that the lyrics were sanitized by music publishers and online sources perpetuate that myth. But it really bugs me that virtually all covers continue to ignore the obvious. BTW, I enjoyed the video. Yours is among the best acoustic versions. Thanks !

Sounded great but I couldn't follow your chords. I got the beginning A chord but have no idea what the other chords are. Oh well.

Hey Thanks for checking it out and appreciate the compliment! It's mostly all in A, just different shapes and fingerings of the chord. Although it goes down to G a bit in the chorus. In other parts of the song (MOJO rising part) has some C in it, but the part of the song covered here is just in A. I suggest studying the CAGED system, which gives you the power to find the A anywhere on neck. Or, if you want a zoom lesson, send me and email to lobo at em-w dot com.
