This RU-vid showed up on my queue. Our hearts are broken at this mammoth loss of a truly great and compassionate man, but it was a consolation to hear him live again in this excellent discussion. Between 70 books, countless videos and articles, and the candles that he lit that subsequently continue to live his love and wisdom, Rabbi Abe will always be with us. Thanks, Rabbi Golub.
I met Rabbi Twerski at an event on Nov. 15, 1996, and it was an honor. I was aware of his works and had copies of a few of his publications including my favorite "Self-Discovery In Recovery".
Being someone who is a Bal Teshuva, son of a woman who was refused a get from a very bad marriage, and who was mistakenly labeled a Mamzer. Its a very selfish act to Marry some without properly divorcing someone else. Just because you feel you are not orthodox doesn't give a person the right to refuse generations from becoming. Rabbi Twerski is 100% correct.
I hope you found your zvug. If not, look for a convert. I'm a convert and I know this is permitted and a convert has a difficult time finding a mate, at least that is my experience.
I was raised Catholic love much of the faith grew up in old Jewish neighborhood in Brooklyn now hang with the Unitarians. Absolutely love Rabbi Twerski such a wise holy man- his honesty and humility such a good example
I went to a Jesuit-run university in France to undertake a 6-months diploma course in the French langauge. It was an experience that opened my eyes and introduced me to the rigours of being an aspiring scholar, a process that my Jesuit teachers micro and macro-managed during my time there. One day, I went at the invitation of a student friend to sit in on a lecture given to first year medical students at a medical school which was part of a state univeristy. This was in every way the flip side of the positive experience I encounted at my university. In my mind's eye, my everlasting memory is that of a cavenous lecture hall, packed to the rafters with 200+ medical students who were on the receiving end of ineffectual teachers. At the end of the 1st year (or it might have been the 2nd year), some 60% of students failed their exams and left the medical school. Go figure...
When Rav Dr twerski said that the "Rav said that to the degree that you lack knowledge of science you will lack tenfold in torah" do we know who he is referring to?
freud smoked cigars non-stop (eventually he died of mouth cancer). A lot of strict freudians follow him to a t and worship him and have a lot of his mannerisms, he's basically saying he appreciates freud but isnt a strict freudian.
