Is it easy to remove the seats from the L-track? I’m thinking of installing ford transit double seat on L-track so that it would be easy to put in and take out if I need to take passengers.
They are pretty easy to deal with inside the van, but taking the 3 seat bench in and out is an issue. I can do it solo, but it's not fun. The 3 seat is HEAVY. Moving it forward or back is pretty easy since I can just undo my L-track bolts and slide it around. Having to lift it is a real chore. I will probably end up getting rid of the 3 seat and only have the 2 seat. I just never have a use for 7 total seats.
Legal depends on your state/country and how they are used. Nobody is going to come pound your door down and take you to jail. Even from what I could find insurance companies will still pay out for injured passengers, but they will sue the shit out of the installer. In this case that's me. If I was going to be making a camper and road tripping, or even just lots of people moving, I would 100% buy a passenger version with OEM seats. The actual rules are state dependant, and testing regulations are typically 20x the assembly weight for pullout and 5000+ lbs at the belts. I'm confident the belts are good because they are integrated into the Transit seats. For pullout the rails claim 1000lbs per bolt. The 3 seater is around 150lbs, call it 170 for good measure. That would require 3400lbs, I have 6 bolts, so easily beat that with 6000lbs of strength. As far as legal, you can add about any seat for sitting/eating/whatever while parked. In motion I can't advise my design and install as being legal. I trust it for my particular use 😉
