An EXCELLENT video. You show a lot more then 90% of the other people doing the same job. Very good explanation of the marks. Yourcorrect that the book shows what a worn chain alignment, the factory manual 8s notmuchbetter at that explanation.

From what I understand, the chain would be set at 1 from factory, and then when it stretches, should be adjusted to 2, then the 3 mark, and then after that, time to install a new chain. its a pretty good design that Nissan Japan came up with. but it still confuses the crap out of me. Thanks for this video! you are very thorough in explaining things. this is especially good and helpful. I screwed up my timing before and I don't want a repeat, so I am definitely coming back to this when I get that thing put back together. again, great video. keep it up!

Well Chris your content is good. So you must look up " How to get more views on RU-vid" there are a number of RU-vid guru's to show you how to put the right TAGS in your video description, SO MORE PEOPLE CAN FIND YOU ! How many people get this 180° out..... You can see why these cars are so Globally loved the motors are dead simple and well built. Anybody having problems with a Z. Has no knowledge of basic mechanical understanding and application ( you have to have hands on experience) The motors are made well. It's 50yrs, and this motor with some love and attention is healthy for another 20+years! I always hear people talk about how much it costs to rebuild these motors, if you do it your self and buy the parts it needs, it's no way near as the prices Ive seen people pay to have theirs rebuilt, I just smirk and say "yeah I know, it's expensive ..."I do use only Japanese OEM or Japanese after market engine parts. No Thailand or Chinese parts,in a Japanese motor. This will kill the reliability at a much earlier point. Zcardepot has OEM, and after market Japanese, they also have Chinese and Thailand parts so you must ask. Or read the description,well. Yet another good video Chris. I have two groups on FB Datsun Z suspension Revelations and LSD'S group, And Datsun ZG and G-Nose Group .

i dont care about "faking popularity" i want people to naturally search and build views over time the real way.... those youtube "gurus" are full of shit.. they lie to people and prey on the weak so THEY get views... my uploads dont get many views but you rate a youtube channel by daily views.. you can social blade my channel and see it is doing quite well ..but with the shop now i will get on social media and try to boost views to pay the shop rent

@@chriscraft77022 Yeah. Unfortunately I think 😅😅😅... Very difficult to get parts here... For the American cars I'm restoring

This L'series cam gear can facilitate advancing the cam shaft to gain more low end torque, that is, if at #1 position the timing is within specs, put cam gear in on #2 position...loose a bit at top end, but for a daily driver only gives benefits...going to #3 position, results in even more low end torque and more loss at top end, also rough idle and engine cuts out frequently when car brought to a stop, raising idle speed to about 1600 rpm cures this but there goes the fuel economy....

😳 really? that is very very interesting.. I just got into these cars and just got my car running… thank you I will look into that

@@chriscraft77022 waaaay back my first car was a holden commodore VC, it was found in a junk yard with a L28 carb enging and the 4 speed automatic, descent power though engine waaay down on compression...fast forward a couple years and many cars later, i needed an engine for a daily driver that would be economic...what did i put into that car at that time....the engine from my first car....i had a RB in my VH commodore, threw out the RB, with the $$$ i got for the RB, rebuilt the L28, stuck it into the vh commodore back in i think 2004...got me thru university, started working in oilfield, and many many engine killing incidents later, the L28 still going strong...one of these incidents i was doing burn outs before a street race, did not see my radiator water on the ground behind, did the race, drove home without water...next day realising bottom rad hose blew out...no engine damage...same thing happened to top rad hose driving home...another incident was driving around without any oil in engine...the clear hose for aftermarket oil pressure gauge got a hole...for some weeks would see oil puddle where i parked but was never where the einge or trans was located...being such a reliable engine, opening hood was unheard of till a buddy pointed oil dripping from driver side wheel well...yep had to put 4L of oil into engine to have oil appear on dip stick....the list goes on

@@ArvineHarry very cool.. the L28 i got in the car was rebuilt with flat top pistons from a (turbozx i think) i found some round top 3 bolt fat tab hitachi carbs that were rebuilt and got the engine fired up in the first hour.. i have a video on it.. datsun finally runs i think.. it start up towards the end.. do you think those flat top pistons will make it faster for real?
@ArvineHarry
@ArvineHarry Год назад
@@chriscraft77022 flat top pistons do wonders in increasing compression ratio, not wanted though in a turbo engine...combustion chamber not the best design and detonation can be an issue, the L series engines not at all powerful in todays standards ..better flowing head such as the P69 can help...but dont make much more power....os giken from japan has a cool dohc head but very expensive...if power is your intention...go RB...the L series is a absurd reliable engine if built properly...anybody can put an engine together...but true engine builders trade secrets make the difference if the engine lasts 100K or 1 million K

is this the same for all L-series Z’s? i’m rebuilding a 260z engine and am wondering if this procedure will work for my timing chain

It is the same, even the four cylinders work this way.
