‪@9HoleReviews‬ BotR L2A2 SUIT Collab video here: • 4x SUIT Trilux Scope +...
In a followup to an earlier video, Bloke takes his 7.62mm L1A1 SLR to the range with his L2A2 SUIT (Sight Unit, Infantry, Trilux) on it in order to demonstrate how it makes the rifle group worse and doesn't hold zero.
In the process, it self-destructed and gave him a nice Glasgow kiss, which will result in a second scoping scar, the first having been received in the 1990's.
So that settles definitively the question that he will be taking a Primary Arms SLx 3 3x microprism on a DS Arms bolt-on rail to Finnish Brutality 2023!

i have never seen that failure before, looked just a bit painful. as for keep taking the S.U.I.T on and off was always a NO NO. once mounted on the top cover and zeroed it stayed on the top cover. As part of the company and Battalion shooting team, firing on different types of shoots like the Bisley ripple shoot ect , we fired a hell of a lot of rounds with S.U.I.T and Iron sights. we carried our original top cover and just swapped them over, so as not to disturb the S.U.I.T . It was what it was for the time , Today there are so many choices of sights . Hope you get it sorted

They were initially only issued in my unit to Marksmen as the saying was that 'it would only benifit a good shot'. Not sure what the reasoning behined that was but, as a marksman I carried one in Belfast in 1975. they were known to zero-shift if you removed them from the top rail so they were left on. the spring was a known weak point and i had one fall of on the pipe range , after that I made sure i had a new spring and never removed the sight from the rail in the whole time i had one. It wasnt terrible, but it was on an SLR and it was rare on the range for in service SLR's to make it all the way though a mag without some kind of stoppage, so matched the rifle nicely! The SLR gets great press now, but in the 70's and 80's we were gagging to get rid of it, and get an M16, AR18 or even maybe some HK....unfortuanatly look what we got as a parting gift from Enfield! 😥 P.S it was ALWAYS pronounced Sooit Sight Unit Infantary Trilux

Never, ever heard it called anything but "soo-it". That said, don't remember it doing 'that' to someone either - presumably the epoxy has lost cohesion/stength over the last four decades? You are almost certainly correct about the amount of shooting done using SUIT rather than iron sight. It was not hugely used, even in an Inf Bn not everyone would have one (far from everyone had an SLR, come to that) and as far as I remember all competition shooting at Bisley and elsewhere was done with iron sights; if there was any competition shooting with SUIT it was probably limited to Bn - level SAAMs. With iron sights, and one LSR set up for ETR, another for Gallery, we were regularly hitting the Fig 11 at 500yards. That was due to shooting 6 or 7 days a week for several months prior to Bisley - it was taken seriously back then!

The SLX 3x is an excellent optic, probably the best money I have paid for shooting equipment. It has good eye relief, clear optics, a very handy reticle, and sufficient illumination at least for northern Europe. 3x is a good compromise and the field of view is wide enough to not cause problems with close targets. The best feature is the size and weight, pretty much equal to an Aimpoint T2! The only negative is the illumination adjustment, it does not have clear detents and it is sometimes difficult to find the "off" position between the "on" positions. An acceptable fault at this price.

I bought a similar broken SUIT sight at one of the famous "War and Peace" shows in the UK. The back half was still OK (apart from the light giving stuff having long expired) but the front half was missing. I think I paid about £40 for it and it laid for a long time in a box, until I designed a tensioning mechanism for it - along with a frontal elevation piece. It didn't look as svelte as the original - and I did purchase a battery run light to replace the original insert. But it worked - and it worked very well on my HK91 clone. Unblemished ones are going for over a Grand on the proper channels. I'd love to get my claws on a SUSAT as well in good time.

I saw a few self-disassenbled SUITs here in Oz, a bunch of decades ago. The actual optic with its "inverted" post (actually a pretty good idea) and Tritium gas illumination was quite a neat package, but the mechanical design of the "mount" was not so good. The mount appears to have been die-cast from an aluminium alloy with very little thought given to the sort of stresses and "transient" forces commonly faced by optics mounts. In brilliantly illuminated hindsight, the M-193 Picatinny rail system is a more robust arrangement. Come to think of it, the Hensholdt scope rigs developed for the Bundeswehr G1 were pretty solid, even though a slight update of the WW2 ZF 4 setup, fragile steel tensioning bands and all.. The base on the dust-cover is probably OK. There is probably some clever enthusiast out there who could CAD up a new "mount", eliminating potential "stress-risers" in the process and then machine it from something like 7075 billet. Titanium would be nice, but it is horrible stuff to machine. I'm sure there are more than a few folks with those capabilities in the land of the SiG and the Alpenhorn. BTW, how is the Tritium "vial"? Or just stick with the Primary Arms optic...... , BTW

If you're having to set gas at 2 you might want to check the gas tube for a split/crack in the threaded area. Its easy to do. Remove gas plug and piston and spring. Handguards off, lever the gas reg ring retaining spring off, let it and reg ring slide down tube. Using a pin punch drive the gas tube fixing pin out and unwind the gas tube, inspect. If all good use something like the plastic tube from a CRC spray can to poke in the top of gas block as you wind gas tube out( after winding it all the way in) so as to not cut all the gas off. Plastic tube should go thru into barrel. It's easy to figure it out.
